Right.  All that is my understanding as well.  I just want Fernando (or some BioWare Staff member) to confirm it as correct

Your understanding is correct :)

They said the Keep will uploade your progress the next time you connect with it.

Yes, the idea is that the Keep updates when it can to reflect what you are currently or have just been playing.

I want to know what will happen if I make a choice, reload a save, and then make a different choice.

As per last response, if you are online you should see the latest choice reflected at next update.

I just have a quick technical question that has been bugging me and I was wondering on some confirmation on this:  I read an article the other day, and the author claimed that via the Keep (I assume its the Keep anyways since the guy mentoned the Cloud) that you can play the same game of Inquisition on different platforms.  For instance start it on the PS3 and then continue it on the PS4.  Now this would be quite awesome but it sounds too good to be true and since I heard it in one (badly written) article I just was wondering if there was any confirmation one way or the other?

That is not a feature offered by the keep.

While I agree that would be an awesome feature, there are challenges that prevent us from being able to do that at this time.

Consider this scenario: You begin playing the game on Xbox 360, and unlock half of the achievements, and then you start playing on PS4. Should the trophies for the already completed objectives just unlock? This is something we're not allowed to "just do" as you didn't actually achieve them on the PS4, and if we can't, there are story achievements etc that you could never get on that platform without a fresh playthrough.

There are many many issues like this which make it impractical at the current time. So unfortunately this is not a feature we can offer (as cool as it is).

We're always looking for ways to improve in these areas and offer greater choice, but it can be a real challenge.

Oh. Thank the Maker for the Keep, then! =)

I don't mean that the world-state would change from within Inquisition. I'll run by an example.

  • World-state #1 is created. In this world-state, Alistair is king.
  • World-state #1 is set as default within the Keep.
  • DAI imports from the Keep. Choices in previous games are thus set in this DAI save game.
  • World-state #1 is deleted and replaced with a world-state where Alistair is a drunk.
  • World-state #1 is once again set as default within the Keep.
  • I keep playing DAI and encounter Alistair in-game. I kill him.
  • DAI uploads my playthrough data to the Keep, telling the Keep to save the data of how I killed King Alistair in world-state #1.
What happens at that point? Will my world-state #1 have a drunk Alistair, and a dead King Alistair? Or will DAI understand it cannot be allowed to upload data to the Keep since the current save in the Keep doesn't match what is in the DAI save?

I can't really say much other than "we are aware of this use case."

;)

I updated my post (the one Allan quoted here). Maybe he could update the quote?

Rather than juggling between two threads, how about you repost your OP from the other thread into this one, I link to that one in the OP?  I can probably trim down the OP to be just a link to the thread just to help out on maintenance?

Syncing of achievements and heroes does not need the save on your local machine.  Allowing you to change between Xbox 360 / PS3 / PC / PS4 / Xbox One between Dragon Games is one of the major reasons we are doing the Keep the way we are.

It also seems that some people think we are syncing savegame data for your heroes, based on the videos; there's not been any change for that since the most recent FAQ, and we still don't have any direct importing of savegame plot data.  You'll have to customize your world state whether your heroes are imported or not, unless you are happy with whatever the default is.  What you can do is select which hero is in your world state, vs. the world state for your hero.

The more I re-read this, the more I think this needs to be clarified in font size 48, red, bold, and maybe some police siren spinning gifs to call attention to it.

So there is no importing of save world states at all, no matter if you have BSN-synched characters or not? The only thing the Keep pulls from synched characters is their name, basic stats and portrait as a starting point, but you still have to go through all the choices and rebuild your world state just like everyone else? It will not populate the Keep with choices from the game, you will still be coming through with a blank slate world and starting from scratch? Because the video was a bit ambiguous about this, and now people are scrambling to synch characters thinking they don't need to worry about rebuilding world states because the Keep will be pulling the whole save game data along with those characters' basic profiles.

There's a lot of misinformation going around now about savefile importing loopholes, it'd be great if we could have some definite clear answer on this.

This is generally correct.  having your gamertags linked and characters showing on the BSN will help if you want to be able to select "your" hero, including their class and portrait, as well as being able to see all of the achievements and other unlocks you have earned.  Whether your hero exists in the Keep or not does not directly affect how your world state is populated - that is all done by choices you make in the Keep, starting on first login.

Firstly - many thanks to those Keeper sharing codes here on BSN!   :D

For those still waiting, every beta tester that we had up to this point got 5 codes to share with friends.  There's no time limit on these, so as more Keepers log in over the next few days we should see more share codes here or over other social channels.  In addition, we'll still continue to add beta applicants as normal (as well as increase the number of applicants let in per wave).  So plenty more chances - best of luck to everyone.

Now then, to go a little more in depth, after the video was posted, a Dev posted someplace clarifying what was imported. No story decisions are imported. I'd post a link, but I'm on my phone ATM. The reason that there were decisions already selected in the demonstration is because the presenter was working with a world state that had already been populated by someone else and not a blank one, not because your decisions in DAO are imported.

Just to speak a little about the Pax presentation I gave - these things are never perfect, as every word is super scrutinized afterwards and often new meaning can be inferred where it wasn't meant despite us trying to pick words carefully.  :(

What you saw roughly was:

- Sync process pulling DAO & DA2 data from BSN to Keep

  • As clarified already, for each Hero this is only the avatar image (purely for aesthetic use on Keep only)  and identifying their gender, race, class (and origin story for DAO).

- Selecting a Hero step

  • Making a choice here already starts to make changes to your current active world state.  In other words, just by picking a custom (or pre-created) hero in the Sync process Hero selection, behind the scenes the auto-solver is adjusting tapestry choices already to ensure the world is consistent (ie. if you have a male warden, you can't marry Alistair, etc)

- Step 3 (the ISS / video narrated by Varric) - this reads the current world state and adjusts the video & narration on the fly.  We skipped the opening in the demo, but this would already call out whichever Warden you selected in the previous step, for example.  If you also choose to make any decisions (edit button) here, behind the scenes the tapestry choices are all being adjusted and corrected in the background so that when you get to the end/Tapestry you can a) see the result of the decisions you just made (Hero + ISS), and B) you are ready to export for use in DAI (or edit further as much as you want).

That process of taking into account the Hero you selected in that sync process step, was the 'previous choices' I was referring to - apologies for the confusion that it may have been pulled all the way back from DAO/DA2 game data, that wasn't the intent and is not how the system works.

Hope that helps,

F.

Folks that redeemed beta codes up to midnight GMT last night (UK time / 5pm PST / 8pm EST) - you should now have access to the Keep, give it a try.

If you redeemed codes after that time, you'll be in next wave 'very soon'.

Good luck.

For Keepers (those who already have full access to Keep), but not able to see the beta test forum:

We'll update the info in the Lobby forum to help troubleshoot this.  But try logging out of both Keep & these forums, and then back in.

Edit: Also try clearing your cache or using an incognito window to log back in.

In the meantime, please do not post on here - have fun on Keep, send feedback using the 'send feedback' button on Keep, and any other issues just hold tight (or if really serious, DM me).

Thanks for your patience :)

Thanks all.

Thanks for the livestream, I came in a bit late and was just wondering who the devs were? Were you the one with the beard?

That was me, and my "It's been a long haul" beard :D  Beside me was Jeff Rousell our tech lead, and Leah the Producer for Keep.

Just watched the Twitch video. It's beyond belief how much BioWare have gone out of their way to make the Keep great. The cross platform support is incredible, especially considering the vast number of different devices out there.

My only slight reservation is that I would have liked Keep feedback to be less limited to those who are already in the Beta, and more open to the whole community over the past few months. But otherwise it looks fantastic. Here's hoping such an ambitious project can be ready in time for Inquisition. It seems almost like a fully-fledged game in its own right!

Thank you.  Ya, I do wish we could have added more people sooner - but we had to strike a good balance between being able to listen to the feedback and getting enough eyes on it.  Too many, too soon, and it would have just become noise that we would not be able to process :( (also, the infrastructure was just not at the point of dealing of that at the time) :)

But we're not done yet ;) still lots we can use feedback on.

Hey all,

Sorry if this is an extremely dumb question:  Signed up for the closed beta on the 12th, got accepted, signed the NDA.  Does this grant me access?  When I go to the website, and sign in, it says my Priority Beta acess is confirmed, but I still can't get in.  Tried clearing my cache, not sure how to browse incognito? (I use Mozilla), tried logging in and out and following the FAQ...and when clicking on their logout link I get a 404 error.  Sorry I'm not that computer saavy anymore, can someone help me with this?  Do I just have to wait longer?

Thanks guys!

April

Hi there!

Yes, once you've signed the NDA, there is a bit of a wait until we let you in to the full Keep. We'll announce on Twitter (@DragonAgeKeep) when we're letting you in - it will likely be tomorrow. Hope that helps!

As of today, everyone who applied for the beta has been invited (account flagged to show & sign the NDA on next login to Keep).  Most users will see that via an email.  For whatever reason, if you did not receive an email but for sure applied, you should still be able to login to Keep and see the NDA.  There is no code or anything in the email itself, it is just used to notify you that your account is setup to show the NDA on next login.

We then grant full access to Keep in waves (group of people) that have signed their NDAs each day, and I would anticipate everyone would have access by end of day friday (Edm time).  Sorry about the gating confusion on this, but it is an effective way for us to create controlled peaks in traffic to the site, which is important for us to test at this point.

If you still have any issues, check the FAQ for troubleshooting - but usually, logging out & back in, clearing cache, using a diff browser, or incognito window (essentially, logging into Keep with a browser clean of previous logged in data - such as applying for the beta in the first place) tends to do it.

Hope that helps.

Good evening.

Because many People wondering about multiple World States or Save States on the PC or Console it self (and as there is only one Explanation on a Twitch Stream from Mike Laidlaw yet), i try a simple explanation here. And it is very very simple. Well you need a Internet Connection of course.

To have different and multiple World Plot States from the Keep in DA:I, you have to:

1.) Login to the Keep

2.) Export World State 1 to DA:Inquisition.

3.) Start a New Game and select that World State.

4.) At the next possible Point, make a Manual Save.

5.) Voila World State 1 Imported saved for later use.

6.) You can now Play the Game or exit to the Game Main Screen, if you want to Import more Custom World States.

To Import another Custom World State:

7.) Export World State 2 to DA:Inquisition.

8.) Start a New Game and select that World State.

9.) At the next possible Point, make a Manual Save. Now You have World State Number 2 successfully saved for later use.

10.) Again: You can play the Game or repeat the above Steps to Import another World Plot State.

A small Q+A:

Question: If I Import World State 2, do I lose World State 1?

Answer: No. Not officially stated by the Devs but to repeat my self: It would absolutely make no sense. Or Mike Laidlaw would not have mention the possibility, to have multiple World Plots saved on our End.

Question: Will this only work on PC?[*]

Answer: I am not a Console Player. But I am sure it will work on Consoles too. Would make no sense to limit it to PC only ;)

Question: Can I backup the Savegames with the different World States?[*]

Answer: On PC: Yes. I am sure we can. The Frostbite Engine creates Standard Savegame Files within the User Folder.

We dont know the exact Path Settings yet. But the Savegames should be somewhere under

<UserName>\MyDocuments\blablabla or <UserName>\SavedGames\blablabla. Not sure what Variant is used by the Frostbite Engine.

On Consoles: I have no Idea if there is a way to Access the Savegames and back them up. Eventually there is a Description somewhere™ on the Internet. Sorry.

Question: How many World States can I Import and Save on my PC or Console at the same time?[*]

Answer: The exact Number is not known yet. I personally think at least 2-5 or 2-10 on PC. If it is somehow limited at all.

Question: Do you violate the NDA?

Answer: NO. I do not. :) All Infos are officially available from the Keep and / or the DA:I Team itself. Be a Twitch Stream or a Twiiter Mention.

[*] = This Info will be updated with the Correct Information as soon we get them officially.

And now: Here is the Link to the Twitch Stream from September 29, where Mike said, we can have multiple World States. Look at: Minute: 22 Second: 33

http://www.twitch.tv...are/b/573285688

This post will be updated as soon we get the rest of the Infos. Will latest be at the Release Date.

Have a good one.

Oliver

Yep, essentially - and if you need more than the world state slots we provide, you can overwrite any WS if needed.  For example, once World State 1 is in DAI, you can change WS1 again on the Keep to be a different history and start yet another new game in DAI and import that new WS1 into that.  So you are actually just limited by whatever DAI save file limit there is per platform (which I don't know off-hand, but in previous games I think this was up to 99 on console, and unlimited/hdd space on PC).

If you import WS2, you do not lose WS1 in DAI - unless you specifically choose to overwrite the DAI save file.

Other than any usual platform specifics around handling save/load, there are no differences between what you can do in DAI when it comes to importing Keep WS.  That also includes how these save files are typically physically stored on the local system, and can therefore be copied & backed up if needed.

Someone mentioned needing to be offline around xmas - and ya, you can totally start as many new games as you want (up to platform limit) each with a different world state before then. Just remember to make a note of which save is which ;)

Is the keep getting wiped before release?

Should I make my game imports, or wait until it's really done.

There's no plans to wipe, so what is there should be what you can use with DAI.  That could change, as things are in a beta after all, but so far we've been fortunate in how its been built that we have not needed to, even as we expand the story choices available thanks to the beta feedback - so i'm not expecting that it would change at this point.

So, could I simply create characters in DA:O and DA2, save after the little opening intro and have them sync to the Keep - and not actually play the characters through the storyline (as I'd have to recreate the playthroughs on the Keep anyway)?

Yep.  The DAO stand alone character creator was a good example of that, but also firing up the previous game just to do chargen & then save should also work. In the case of CC, since that is also using the same Origin account as the previous games, DAI and Keep - you actually could use the DAO PC CC to create a hero appearance, and use that in Keep after it syncs - even if you only played DAO on console (or never) for example.

Again, the only thing we bring over from DAO & DA2 is 1) the hero avatar image & name - as a way to help you identify a particular hero you might want, but with no bearing in DAI itself for example. And 2) that hero's story related attributes, specifically gender, class, race (and origin story) which can adjust story choices in Keep.

If you are not concerned (or for whatever reason unable) getting your DAO/DA2 hero in Keep, you can easily use one of the defaults provided - there is one provided for every gender, class, race, (origin story) combo - and you would be getting the exact same experience as someone who imported.

In fact, you could use a default hero with same attributes (ie. female, elf, mage), and at some point in future (you replayed DAO, or used the CC, or synching fixed an outlier that previously prevented your hero synching) change that to your actual hero (also F.E.M.) and the story would stay exactly as is and you would lose nothing.

Hope that helps

F.

As mentioned, changes are made automatically.

The only time you need to export it is if you want to have your changes show in DAI.  Since only 1 world exists to import at once, and you can have multiple world states being edited, exporting lets you save a snapshot of the world you choose.

Once you export a world to DAI, changes you make to it afterwards will not be picked up by DAI unless you export the changes again.

If you're in IE9, it's likely a browser issue.  In that case, I would suggest trying another browser such as Chrome.

If that is not the problem, if you PM me a picture of what you are seeing I can try investigating this with you more.

I encountered a problem regarding the Keep import. Early in the game when you first arrived at Haven you get to talk to your companions. When I spoke with Varric I asked him how Hwake's companions are doing, and he mentioned that Merrill, my Hwake's romance, was helping a Dalish clan or something like that, but I remember people saying that Varric should say something like she's with Hwake. Does it mean the import doesn't work or there're some errors? Have anyone encountered discrepancy between what is said in game and your import?

Hi, we'll look into this particular conversation to see if there's a bug - thanks for letting us know. To check what decisions you've imported into DAI from the Keep you can use the playthrough states. If you visit the World States section in the Keep and select "Playthrough States" from the drop down menu (or use the arrows to page between sections) you'll see your DAI playthroughs there.

We gave a quick overview of using this in our most recent Keep Twitch and you can see how this works about 15mins into the stream. Can check it out here: http://www.twitch.tv/bioware/c/5497500

I hope this helps :)
