One of the main reasons for having the Keep at all is to support cross-platform world states, which can't really be done any other way. And as for offline... I wouldn't count on it, to be honest. All signs point to an online-only solution so far.Clockwork_Wings wrote...
They're taking crossplatforms and offline players into consideration. I think that's all we know.
This actually might be the solution to keep MP out of Dragon Age too if you think about it.

I read somewhere they're cosindering the number of people who won't or can't play online. But if it's a technilogical limitation, then there's not a lot they can do, sadly. I don't understand why it can't be an offline app, but I'm not working on it, so...

Oh Maker, yes. This exactly! Creating these choices to make vastly different world states limits future narratives. This is why I had no problem with DA2's ending. The path you take to get there is of your own choosing, but why can't the end state be basically the same for everyone?ElitePinecone wrote...
Yeah, that's true - though you could argue in ME's case it was a problem of their own making, since it looks like absolutely nobody in Bioware planned ahead for how to deal with the choices that they'd given players in earlier games. Most of the time it worked quite well, but in a few cases - like the rachni - there was some blowback from players, probably deservedly.DarthSliver wrote...

Maybe the solution should also partly be about managing players' expectations[/b] - after all, there's no way to give huge amounts of unique content to every single combination of choices, so maybe that side of the game series shouldn't be hyped as much as it is now?
I wondered that myself, I didn’t have problem with DA2 ending also,
but I wished Varic said more about where and what my companions decided to do
after the gallows battle

So do I. I missed the sliders, even if they were horribly inaccurate in places.

I take it everyone is too busy working on the project, but I would still like to hear some news on the progress, maybe a vague hint at when the beta might be planned for.
Pretty please?

Hasn't there been two sets of invites to the BETA for The Keep already?Neofelis Nebulosa wrote...

There are multiple waves planned, they're starting small and will slowly expand it over the next few/many months.Neofelis Nebulosa wrote...

I believe the intention is to ultimately get heaps of people using it by the end of the beta period, so they can stress test it in preparation for actual launch.
(Because the last thing EA needs is people not being able to play DA:I or import their saves on day one due to the Keep being down)

Also someone needs to make a Sandal prophecy thread if one does not already exist.

That was not what I had asked. The quoted poster said there had already been two waves of invites that were sent to people, as in the beta was already in full swing.

As far as I know only one wave of invites has gone out. A small group around Christmas. They said they would announce via twitter when they sent out the next wave of invites. I haven't seen that yet, but I could have missed it. If a second wave did go out I for one would love to know when. Then we can work out what kind of time frame we are looking at for the next one.

My apologies if this has already been answered. Will we be able to save our keep to an external HD, to upload it to our [gaming system], or will an internet connection with the device be necessary at some point?
The Keep is afaik a web based program. It is planned that you link to the internet at the start of the playthrough to import your Keep profile.

So, the only option for systems w/o an Internet connection is to play one of the Canon backgrounds? Pity. Thanks for the answer.

It only needs a single connection though, when you import your Keep profile at the start of your playthrough. Once done, and this was confirmed in this very thread iirc, no further online connection is necessary for that playthrough.
And we don't yet know if you actually have to connect via the game, or if you can just download your individual profiles directly from the Keep and say save on an USB stick and manually import into the game to start new playthroughs.
And seeing how you have the capacity to post on the internet, you'd also have the capacity to use the Keep as is intended as far as we can tell with our current set of informations.

This only applies to people who will be playing DAI on the same device they're using to post on BSN. I play on consoles that are always offline, so connecting them to the internet even once is not something I'm going to do. If there's an option to save Keep info to a USB drive and then load it to the offline console, I can work with that, but it hasn't been confirmed if that's possible.Neofelis Nebulosa wrote...

Couldn't you tether your console wirelessly to whatever device you're using though? The Sarendoctrinator wrote...

Unless it's more a philosophical objection to connecting your console to the internet, or something, I guess.

I guess you could call it a combination of philosophical and practical. Most things that I've connected the internet to have ended up broken beyond repair or just very messed up, and I don't want any problems with my game consoles. I've also played videogames for many years before ever using the internet, so it's not something I want or need in my games. It shouldn't be a requirement to use an important feature of a singleplayer game which, until DAI, was always done offline. I don't object to the idea of entering the Warden and Hawke's decisions manually, just the fact that making it online-only will exclude players who used to be able to use this feature, which leaves them only the default world state that may not reflect their choices at all.ElitePinecone wrote...

But that's just me. I've read comments from others in this thread who don't have internet access at home to use it with their consoles even if they wanted to.
