Yes, everyone in the Keep is under NDA about what they are seeing.

And since not even the number of participants have been released - technically making the number zero - the only thing we're left with is good marketing.

Sometime before launch of course, but closer to "around a month before it" than anything else. It won't be out before the waning weeks of summer at the earliest, that much is almost guaranteed.

Well we can only hope that the next beta wave will allow us to enter the dragon age keep. Probably the closer the team gets to the deadline the more people they invite.

Yup, beta is always like that , small group of people getting in , finding bug , reporting it,and eventually bigger wave of invite will go out ,I don't know if its a online application ,if it is ,they will need a lot of us to test the server stability with big amount of people "on" at the same time ,so just be patient +++ even if we are not selected people in the keep beta won't be under DNA for ever ! :D.
Ps: anyone know at wich frequency they are sending invite ?

Probably not too often (once a month?) to give the guys time to find bugs and the developers to fix them. stability tests shouldn't be much more than one or two months before release, else you'd have to have the server capacity paid for looooong before the game is out which is a complete waste of money. Keep in mind though, that EA has goofed almost every single time they released server-based service. That means that (with high probability) they again will "miscalculate" the number of expected players and the servers crash once they go public...

Also networking issues are never easy, so in the worst case scenario it wouldn't even be EAs fault but a simple technical issue they could not have prevented.

Kudos to whomever actually got the early beta invites. Man, I was so hoping to get in on the ground floor of that, but something in my profile must've not hit the equation sweet spot. If I had to flip a quarter, I would go with my age (52), but who knows for sure. I had imagined that my dozens of playthroughs might/perhaps/maybe would have been sufficient to squeeze me through the first wave. Alas!

Third perspective: a warning, for using a noun as a verb? That'd be odd!

So is this a random beta process or are they looking for specific qualities from the people they invite?

Depends on what they are testing. If you happen to be a long time BioWare-RPG fan, you'll have better chances when they test the overall "Dragon Age feel" of the Keep. On the other hand some people have to be new to the series to check, if all the information is enough or has to be made simpler/ has to be widened. I bet right now, most of the stuff is either filled with "Placeholder 1, 2..." or not yet implemented...

Beta software should be at the very least feature-complete even if some details of implementation are subject to change. And it would be exceptionally unusual to recruit public testers for a product full of placeholders or "not yet implemented" functionality, regardless of what you call it.

Chances are the Keep is pretty much done; the beta is being run to find bugs, using public recruitment to cover a wide variety of web browsers and software environments.

Another persepective.... I registered for the Beta very early morning the day after after it was announced.

Didn't get in. Suspect there's 8 bazillion people who signed up on day one and I'm behind them all, lol.

I don't think there's much of a link between when you signed up and getting in at this very early point. They want certain types of testers to test certain things, and those users could come from any time. If they want complete newbies to test the Keep and the first 5000 people who signed up for the beta are all die-hard Dragon Age fans, it makes no sense to offer them a place just because they were quick in signing up.

Also, I suspect there's an element of randomness to the way they're choosing people anyway - nobody could read tens of thousands of user profiles, so they probably get a program to narrow it down to specific user categories before they sort out who gets entry.

The first round of betas were sent to famous YouTubers, Twitter personalities, cosplayers, etc. But a second round of betas were recently sent out to seemingly random people, as some "regular" folks did in fact (supposedly) get some invites.

Odd how they prioritized YouTubers but then won't let them talk about it by placing them under an NDA.

Well, they didn't really have much to talk about at first as they were just given the invites, then heard nothing for weeks.

But I agree; it's very odd. I could only figure 1. They know the YouTubers and what not are active fans and so they don't have to worry about their first beta testers not checking in, and 2. Eventually the NDA will be lifted and these guys will get the info out by word of mouth like wildfire.

It's not that any gaming website on the web would be giving their right hand for some information on one of the - if not the - biggest releases this year...
