And as far as I am aware, it should include DLC and expansions as well. (I'd be infinitely surprised if they were omitted).

I'd like to give a commendation to Bioware to listening to the fans word-for-word. There were no cheap gimmicks or "left out" features here, they did exactly what we asked for; a total customization system, WITH the ability to import saves as well.

Bravo, Bioware. I give you a tip of my Commissariat hat.

Oho it's like "Keep" is a pun for "keep"ing your world state, huehuehue.

This arrangement is acceptable to me, particularly if importing saves into the Keep will pan out. I mean, I kinda just wanted a canon, but we all knew that was a silly, impossible fantasy. :P

What's more important is that transfers ranging from previous to next generatinos and from consoles to PCs has been allowed.

The idea behind this is that you can connect to the Keep when starting a new game, regardless of what platform you are currently running on.

(And to preempt concerns, you won't need to always be connected to the keep. Once you create your game the states will be set).

Why do you want to import? We saw importing can easily mess stuff up, I'd much rather create something with the Keep that works as intended (hopefully).

I didn't see anything messed up by the import in my games.

Mark is talking about importing into the Keep, as it would expedite setting up the world state for your game to recognize. There aren't plans to directly import from save games into DAI. So in that sense, yes the Keep is our sole solution. It'd be really, really good for some people, especially those with a lot of characters, to be able to speed the process along by importing, which is what Mark is referring to with his investigation.

And as far as I am aware, it should include DLC and expansions as well. (I'd be infinitely surprised if they were omitted).

I notice the Keep website says sign in with Origin for the beta.  Is there/will there be an option for console players for a beta?

Not cool. Not cool at all, unless you can select literally every single flag that was present in the DA:O and DA ][ save files, and unless this is some kind of file I can download to run the game offline.

So I'll have to connect to the internet every time I want to start a new game?

we really aren't going to be able to import our saves between platforms and that 'The Keep' is their sole solution, they just don't want to say, "Hey guys, this is our final answer..." because they know a lot of people will crap themselves in fury irrationally even if there really is, fundamentally, no difference between importing the save files and selecting all the details of all the choices you made in previous games via The Keep.

It makes sense but I sense that some people will be less pleased.

Mark said in blog that you guys are still looking into ways to allow just straight-out import :P

Cool. :-)

So, is the beta only for people with PC copies of DA games, or is there a technical reason I'm not getting any input fields on the Keep page?

So every new game I'll have to go through a check list of choices? That sounds interesting but als tedious, especially considering I probably wont be able to remember every choice I made for every save file.

I take it that there will be more world states stored - one for each character you've made in a game.

BTW: What does the DA team think of the Genesis DLC of ME (the one which can either show or use to change the decisions made)?

Thanks for clearing that up Allan, it answers most of the big questions I had.

I think it's really important that we are able to keep the save game direct import functionality though (or be able to upload our previous save games to the Keep) given how difficult it is to track all the decisions made in each playthrough. Some players just won't have the time or inclination to go back through an old save file trying to remember everything they did - the process needs to be made as simple as possible for those players, since the ability to carry forward your world is such a big trademark of the series and it keeps people hooked on the games.

Not being able to import our save games is terrible news. What about an appearance of our Warden/Hawke? I have lots of characters from DAO, so instead of selecting one save file per character, I will have to select hundred choices for one character. How is it going "to speed the process along by importing"? Is this a joke?

Hopefully there will be customizable defaults, and different levels of complexity ranging from "only the huge choices" to a comprehensive list, with the non-comprehensive solutions filling in the minor details with defaults.

As far as all the online grumblings, unless it an always-online system, which Allan says it isn't, I really couldn't care less about the connectivity requirement or the long term future of the cloud. I'm sure if there is such a time that the cloud is deactivated, there will be some solution to let you play the game, at least without imports, and I'm probably not going to be importing today's saves 20 years from now anyway.

The keyword there is "directly." He didn't say there wouldn't possibly be importing of your saves via the "Keep."

Ohmygod... when will all the awesomeness stop? I am about to faint!

The only thing that will ruin DA:I for me now is ****ty male romance option... Other that that, every dream has come true ! Even horses.

Thank you Bioware, Thank you! (And I did actually love DA2, regardless of its shortcomings)

I'm perfectly fine with going through each decision and reconstructing them by hand. To me it would be fun, so long as every possible choice I can make is present in the Keep, no matter how small.

We can have different saves states for different playthroughs of DA:i right?

Lucky you then. In one import for The Witch Hunt Morrigan "forgot" she was pregnant with my baby.
Zevran also "forgot" he was in love with my Warden in DA2 (and I remember people had issues with Leliana too).

So I am really hoping The Keep will be able to do it properly, since it won't involve all the extra fluff that existed in our save files.
