Usually gear up completely, I have so many of everything, why not use it.

Now, yesterday I joined my Level 20 Soldier into a Gold Match and forgot that I had promoted and hadn't re-assigned any of the skill points. So 84 points were just sitting there, not a single point in any power/passives. Did pretty well, came in 3rd, around 75k points. Not bad for using just a gun.

However, it is bad form to not use low level consumables in gold. Higher level ones rock if you want an easier match.
