That's nonsense.

Attractive characters do not exist for the purpose of bringing in easy advertising and basement dwellers.

You're making the same mistake the author of the article presumably made.

If the characters haven't been announced, then we have not yet seen those characters (and therefore the characters we have seen are not romance options).

If they haven't announced which characters can be romanced, then any of the characters who have already been announced could still be romance options (they simply haven't announced romances yet).

The reason this thread exists is valid. The author of the article done goofed if what they truly meant to say was that BioWare simply hasn't announced romance options yet. They wrote a statement (which you then repeated) that doesn't actually say what they meant to say.

No, because OP stated that this article somehow confirms that Cassandra, Varric and Vivienne are NOT romanceable, and that's not the case. All it said was that Bioware did not confirm any of the romances, so we don't know if they are or aren't yet...

You're making the mistake of assuming that the article meant that the romanceable characters in DAI have not yet been revealed, when all he meant to say was Bioware has not revealed which companions will be romanceable. It's not that complicated.

If they make Varric unromanceable two games in a row, there will be a mutiny.

So dose this confirm that Cassandra, Varric, and Vivienne are NOT romanceable?

I wouldn't think so. It's just naturally too early for them to want to spoil who will be romanceable. I don't know about the other two, but I would be shocked if they didn't have Cassandra available to be romanced.

Why would you be shocked ?

Because she has been asked for for so long, and BioWare usually likes to have an attractive female to dangle before male gamers in the hope that they will bite (Morrigan, Isabela).

Well, true, but Bioware never promised anything, as they never promised that Aveline could become an LI in DAII, despite people asking for a romance with her.

I'm going to be doubtful that they don't start off intending romances. The coincidences are too much. Dragon Age 2 evenly split romances across gender and races. Two of each. The only thing it didn't evently split was the class composition, 2 mages, 1 rogue, 1 warrior. And it's almost a Bioware tradition that the first man and woman to join the party that don't die will be love interests. Dragon Age 2 was a notable exception.

But maybe there's a coinfluence. The first man and woman happen to be human. And Bioware tends to make the humans the love interests.

Though if they make him romanceable, there might also be a mutiny.

He is kind of a universally liked character at the moment, but I imagine his romance (and probable availability to both genders if so) could irk a lot of dudes' bro feelings.

The grammer is messed up, and therefore it is ambiguous, but it can be read either way.

I hope they announce them soon so the forum can move on from "[Insert random person] for LI!!!!!"

I hate to disappoint, but I don't think the forums ever really move on from that. :?

I know but I can hope.

I never implied they promised anything, but that still doesn't change my expectation that they will make Cassandra available for romance. It seems that female characters that always irritate me the most inevitably end up being offered as the most desirable romance choice for the male players. :P

As to whether Varric will be an option for romance I cannot even guess. There seem to be lots of good reasons to leave him as he was as the best friend in DA2, but there are other arguments that could be made that he would be a good choice for DAI romance. Originally, I could never imagine Garrus as being a romance, and he went on to become one of the best romance arcs for female players. So.... *shrug* Who knows?

No they don't.

Here is what I'm guessing is the logic that runs through your heads upon seeing an attractive character.

#1. Alice is attractive!
#2. Alive doesn't have to be attractive! The plot would function without it. Her character would function without it. Why is she attractive?
#3. BioWare must have made her attractive because they want 13 year old boys and basement dwellers playing their game! There's no other reason! It's so obvious!!!

That about right?

You can read it either way, but you brought in the word "literal", which just isn't accurate.

Literally, BioWare hasn't announced the characters. As I've noted repeatedly, it's likely not what the author meant, but it is what they wrote. :-)

Dark haired women with attitude are always available for romance in Bioware games. Just look at Bastilla, Ashley, Morrigan, Miranda and Isabela.

Well, it confirms that we haven't announced which characters are romanceable!

Which I think is true.

Whether or not that confirmation is worth anything, however, is another point.

Yes they do.  Hotness is first and foremost marketing in every aspect.

The game wouldn't sell as much if the characters were fugly. Miranda wouldn't have nearly as many fans if she looked average. Why do you think that stupid bridge troll Aveline Vallen has such a small following?

Considering it's basically saying there is no new information avaliable than was already known currently before the article was posted, I'm going to go ahead and say yes, nothing has indeed been confirmed or learned with this information.
