No they don't.

Here is what I'm guessing is the logic that runs through your heads upon seeing an attractive character.

#1. Alice is attractive!
#2. Alive doesn't have to be attractive! The plot would function without it. Her character would function without it. Why is she attractive?
#3. BioWare must have made her attractive because they want 13 year old boys and basement dwellers playing their game! There's no other reason! It's so obvious!!!

That about right?

Yes they do.  Hotness is first and foremost marketing in every aspect.

The game wouldn't sell as much if the characters were fugly. Miranda wouldn't have nearly as many fans if she looked average. Why do you think that stupid bridge troll Aveline Vallen has such a small following?

I liked Aveline

But not in a romance way lol

Why don't you explain to me why exactly you think stories which have utterly no advertising still often have attractive characters? Because that seems to make little sense to me if the purpose of making characters attractive is marketing.

Unless you're using a very silly definition of 'marketing' as 'anything which makes the game better and hence makes people want to play it.' Which would be stupid, because then literally any good quality of the game could be accused and insulted as 'marketing' and the term would become meaningless. That's surely not the case, is it?

Dark haired women with attitude are always available for romance in Bioware games. Just look at Bastilla, Ashley, Morrigan, Miranda and Isabela.

Also, Dawn Star, although I suppose everyone in Jade Empire had dark hair.

If I couldn't romance the Knight-Commander Meredith (She needed all the loving that she can get) I sure as hell hope to romance Cassandra! I demand it :D

Characterization?

Think, genius. Which is gonna attract more attention (and by extension, more money) a character that looks like they were hit by a bus 3 times at age 5 or one that wouldn't look out of place in Miss America?

If this means that neither Cassandra or Vivienne are romance options, then good. I certainly wasn't planning on banging either of them if I had the option.

And she better be available for female inquisitor. I don't want to have another Miranda and Ashley. Even Morrigan,<_<

Sex does sell.

But it's foolish to assume that's all it does. And as I continue to point out, that clearly makes no sense for a story without advertising.

I think Silk Fox has a bit more attitude than Dawn Star.

Assuming no advertising is pretty damn foolish in the Dragon Age situation.

Don't worry, this is Dragon Age. As of DA2, everyone is bi.

I'm not talking about Dragon Age alone. I'm talking about every story in existence with attractive characters, many of which have no advertising whatsoever. I'd like you to explain to me why characters in those stories specifically are attractive.

She does. I think she's more the "evil" choice while Dawn Star is "good". I only ever played females though, so Sky was my one and only romance choice.

Not Sebastian.... Royalty makes you heterosexual in the DA universe.
Edit: I'm joking before somebody gets angry.

Isn't that something you should do considering you're the one promoting the idea that sex appeal does more than sell?

LOL, I forgot about him. His bones are not jumpable, so I don't actually consider him a romance anyway. I romanced Anders and Fenris, but Sebastian was too much trouble (no flirting allowed!) for no payoff. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's a romantic tease, which is what I consider Seb. ;)
