That the weapons and armor look badass plus hallas, brontos, and griffons for mounts

and not cartoonish

This too. Yeah.

The last thing the BSN needs is more controversy xD

The Megazord is a LI and companion.

Iron Man is an ally.

Wargreymon is your pet.

Tali brings to town the first shot gun in the world.

CM Punk is king of Orlais.

Canada rules all of Thedas.

Nothing happens to Santa's balls.

Without all of these I will never buy the game.

I'm not sure I know how to be optimistic without qualification to a Bioware title anymore. Does that make me bitter? That kind of sucks.

Maybe I'll try saying something, then I'll go back and cut any qualification, snark, or sarcasm. Let's try that!

The characters that Gaider writes will be equal measure funny and interesting. And.. that's absolutely true. I do consider him the best character writer in this industry. But that's not actually a hope. That's an opinion.

Okay, hope...I have a great hope that the character of Morrigan will have matured and ironed out the kinks of her role in the approval system. I have hope that the plot will be interesting, that the Grey Warden involvement will be exciting, and that the villain will be charismatic. I have hope that the Keep will prevent import bugs.

Making my Inquisitor a Machiavellian master strategist, capable of manipulating social and political webs with the same deftness that he commands his hand-built armies around, organising them into a cataclysmic fight with an equally threatening enemy. I want to lie, to backstab, to wheedle and steal, to pick routes to ambush, castles to besiege, war fronts to break, and I want to threats to the Inquisition run in fear before me. I want that to be necessary too.

Also, morally complex and heartwrenching decisions, m'kay? That final mission of DA2 was tough, as was the end of Awakening.

Huge exploration maps with beautiful realistic nature landscapes, the pre-alpha Gameinformer vid showing the capabilities of the frostbite DAI engine has raised my hopes and anticipation significantly.
The last couple of Bioware games I've played did not have any exploration maps or beautiful open areas so I hope those return in DAI.

And.....that Cassandra is a LI.

I hope for moments where the story delivers surprises that completely blindside me and yet make perfect sense.

That is probably the most valid hope listed in this thread yet.

Although... is the hope that everyone will enjoy it? If so, I'd say that is statistically impossible - someone surely will not.

Is the hope that someone willl enjoy it? If so, I'd say that is statistically guaranteed - someone surely will.

Is the hope that it will be critically well received? That it will get a certain score on Metacritic? That the BSN or other online communities will give, on an overall basis, the thumbs up? Those all might be more definable terms, but you'd probably want to set up the specific metrics involved before the game comes out.

With undefined expectations comes unfulfilled objectives.

That it will be an epic experience like Dragon Age Origins was and that our castle/resources building for the Inquisition will even blow the Suikoden games out of the water!
And that the partymembers (and love interests) will be as great as those from DAO and ME!
Oh, and that the Warden & Hawke cliffhanger from DA2 turns into something great.

My greatest hopes are...

The ability to be truly "evil", rather than just a "morally grey hero".
Being able to become an abomination.
Being able to become a dragon, a la Flemeth.

Also, PvP multiplayer.
