I thought there were some really interesting interactions with your family in DAO and DA2 (Brosca and Aeducan familiesbeing my favorites) and would miss having that type of interactions if the inquisitor did not have any family members around at any point in the game.

What do you think?

Let's hope not. I don't want any more incest requests.

Especially for a Game of Thrones fan.

Given previous experience with dwarven families in DA (Bhelen and Bartrand), I have the feeling that if my protagonist does get a family, they're going to end up dead after betraying me.

Good grief, was that really a thing?

I assume you were not on the boards often when Bethany was introduced...

Edit: It seemed like a joke at first, a silly LI thread, but the joke ran on a little too long.

Would be nice to have family members who don't just serve as fodder for revenge haha. A little badassery would be great.

More for Bethany than for Carver, IIRC, but yes. It was a thing.

Personally I'm hoping that if there's family in Inquisition, Bioware branches out a bit more in how they utilise them.

Yes Bethany was clearly the hotest female .
The DA2 romances were done so poorly imo,
players wanted more. Rather sad.

TBH, no. The arbitrary killing of a family member we just met in DA2 due to whatever class we chose was lame as well as the subsequent cut scene deaths of other family members. That is one part of DA2 I don't want to experience in DAI.

I certainly hope so. Let's move beyond brother and sister things though, as I've experienced it far too much in the Dragon Age series. How about a kid this time?

By 'family,' you mean people who die tragically, right?

Or an uncle father figure, who isn't a lout. (And, again, whose purpose isn't to just die at an inconvenient time)

For plot reasons!

This was my first thought.  If they're just going to be thrown in as tools to try and add some sadness to the game by killing them, or make it dark fantasy than I hope not.

If they're actually going give you reason to care about them and build them up as a family than I could go with it.

Maybe this time they could try to kill you instead. That would count as self defence given their normal fate which you describe here. Of course you'd probably end up killing them then...

I'd be okay with a family so long as they're more useful to the story and character than the briefcase from Pulp Fiction.

Seriously, imagine that the Hawke family is replaced by the briefcase. See what changes. I'll wait here.

Hopefully, we can just RP our backstories.

I don't need NPCs acknowledging my character's past. I want them to react to who the character is presently.

Considering the three races and streamlined beginnings, I doubt it.

Would I mind having another family like the Tabris line? Heck to the no. =)

That always felt like cheap writing to me

Yeah, I agree with you. I doubt we'll have a family due to race options + no origins but I would have liked to! Soris, Shianni, Cyrion, and Rica were very dear to me. I also loved Carver and Gamlen in DA2. (did not get attached to mother Hawke or Bethany)
