Also, Peaches is Carvers girlfriend unless Hawke is male. There is also someone who writes Bethany, a old friend.
I don't think anyone writes Hawke though, s/he just kinda reads his/her family's mail.

al long as aren't as the Hawke family, with the imposed relationship (why Carven must antagonize a big sister? why can't he love his big sister and be the jelous little brother, who treaten every guy (or girl) who try to take away his sister from him? and why Bethany can't be gelous of her big sister, who seems to have the cute guys gather all around her? sane little competition between sisters) and the only reason those people where there seems to be forced drama.
expecially Leandra. one of the most unuseful character of all the game. i was happy she died.

DA2 had enough dead relatives .
They would just get killed or kidnapped.

Let's hope not. I don't want any more incest requests.
Good grief, was that really a thing?
I lost it when I heard about the Bethany and Carver LI mod.

By 'family,' you mean people who die tragically, right?
Maybe this time they could try to kill you instead. That would count as self defence given their normal fate which you describe here. Of course you'd probably end up killing them then...
Bhelen already tried that.

I hope not, though I doubt it now that there are playable races,Hawkes family felt kind of pointless to me in DA2 or at least as a waste of potential with one sibbling getting killed of 10 minutes into the game and the other going missing for 2/3 of it
not only pointless, but immersion breaking...i hated Carver (that guy is just such an dick IMHO), i disliked Bethany (at least from what i read about her - my Hawkes are always mages), i don't like their mother much either (pining after a live she didn't want in the first place, blaming the PC for having a sibling die and generally being useless (what a powerfull Apostate like Hawke's father saw in her is something i would really like to know!)) and don't get me started on their uncle...it's like a bad version of the simpsons and all of those nitwits are related to my PC?....*pukes*
not that i generally have anything against he idea, but i thing a distant relative would work best (badass uncle/cousin (that would fit me - my cousin is rather badass (black belts in two martial arts, 1,90 meters tall, muscled etc.)) - i would be fine with a sibling, too (at least if he/she is not either nedlessly insecure or a ****!)...but no mother/father or children (of the PC) please...unless: Adopting someone is ok IMHO (but not as a baby, more like say 15-16 years old) and maybe even training them (the "Apprentice-Idea" that's what i call that, essentially a companion that you chose the gender and class of to fill a void in your party

Good point, I never did play dwarf noble. Come to think of it the story of the Baldur's Gate series is a bit like that too. Okay, I take it back, it's been done.

No kidding.
Can you imagine a protagonist having family was is just nice or semi-normal, living in the farm or estate back home? Maybe you visit them once just so the player knows they're alive, they ask you how you're doing and express pride or disappointment in what you've accomplished (depending on what kind of family they are), and/or they send you letters and care packages as you travel the world?
Every player would just be waiting for the moment the family ends up slaughtered or taken hostage or something. Can you imagine how everyone's minds would be blown if we made it to the end of the game and nothing tragic happened to them?

Everybody has a family - father and mother at least. Whether they are still alive is another matter. Anyway, it is quite hazardous to be related to a Bioware protagonist. Will the inquisitor have family in Inquisition

lol.
What prompted this for me is a DA2 thread.
Apparently, depending on how hawke looks, Bethany and Carver will look slightly different in each playthrough, so their appearances are somehow tied to the way hawke looks.
Only played DA2 twice, so I wouldn't have known that.
I bet a lot of players don't know about that.
I didn't like hawke's mom being murdered, or the choices for Bethany and Carver in DA2 .
Having family that wouldn't be killed as a useless plot device , and I've changed my mind, would be ok.Maybe show us another side of the Inquisitor.
shrugs.

You should play that origin, perhaps my favourite one. Very very well done by BioWare.

What might be cool is if they made one of the Companions or maybe support characters throughout the game a Family member of one of the Origins(specially interactions ect.)
Example. Human Origin could be a cousin of Cassandra? Dwarf/cousin of Varric? Qunarii/Iron bull
Elves/ect.
Would be an interesting aspect to game play maybe have more sway on the character due it the family bond in hard decisions

I thought the same thing about Carver when I first played. But one playthrough I actually took the time to actually get Carver into the friend zone (without sacrificing the way I felt about mages). Of course Carver is still a ****** in the first Act but in Act 2 and 3 he actually treats Hawke with respect and admiration and is actually kind. So I wouldn't't write him off just yet. But there's my two cents on that. But back on track on the having a family bit, I think it's a good idea. With my track record of Wardens (Brosca and Tabris) I like having the element of having a family to fight for. But they would have to be non companions. They'd just get in the way otherwise.
