So why are the Reapers accepting ORGANIC help this time round?

The Collectors are also desperate to prevent the invasion of the Reapers. After all, they are abducting colonies - not purging them. Humans would be of particular interest because Shepard managed to take down the Vanguard Sovereign.

That being said, they probably have an 'ends-justifies-the-means' policy and are willing to go to any lengths to find a weakness in the cycle of elimination - even if that means obtaining such knowledge at the expense of the welfare of other 'lesser' races.

Some speculate the Collectors are so advanced because they largely keep to themselves and are able to escape unnoticed when the Reapers invade every 50,000 years.

Also to add to this theory, the Collectors may also 'collect' technologies and specimens before the Reapers invade.

in the enemies vid, casey (or someone, i dont remember who) says that the collectors hihg tech definently has something to do with the reapers. considering the all powerful mind-controlling nature of the reapers, it is very obvious that the collectors are pawns; though that obvious correlation could just be a clever plot twist,  that they aquired reaper tech thru other means (the only viable alternative method being steal) is highly doubtful. but again, could be a clever plot twist. <_<

Perhaps the Collectors also get wiped out but have the foreknowledge to prepare for it. They have a mechanism in place to pass down knowledge to every generation so they don't have to start from scratch - which would explain why they advance relatively quickly compared to the other species. So every new evolutionary group of the Collector race discover a cache of advanced technology left behind by the last generation of Collectors who went around gathering it all up and storing it securely before the Reapers purged them as well.

Does that make sense? Maybe I'm crazy.

I don't really think the Reapers are worried about being hypocritical as much as they are getting the job done.

Solid theory I could see this being possible.

What if the reapers and collectors have been at war with each other seemingly forever?

The only story outcome that would disappoint me is if the Collectors are just indoctrinated allies of the Reapers. Just seems too plain for my liking.

But do the collectors hide in dark space too than?  It's really tough to know without playing ME2 and getting some needed information.

Thanks. We'll see how it all turns out when the time comes.

I don't think the Collectors are Reaper lackeys, but opportunists with access to Reaper tech. Otherwise, they'd have aided Sovereign during the first game.

It just seems odd that they are so advanced and have escaped the view of the Reapers, it seems far more likely the biological abilities of the Collectors are of use to the reapers so they allow them to survive the "reaping"

You assume they're older than any other race like the Asari or Salarians. Its not impossible that a race called the 'Collectors' would have colleced quite a bit of ancient technology over the years.

Personally, I think it unlikely the collectors are working for the reapers. They're an incredibly advanced race that could probably wipe out even the Turian military with ease if they committed their own military to the task. Yet they hide out in some hard to reach corner of space, trading their advanced weapons for fresh genetic material (mostly from Batarian slavers) so they can continue their experiments.

They're attacking and kidnapping human colonies now, but they're only using one ship, not a fleet, so it's not a military endeavour. Even that one ship is probably something along the lines of a science vessel.

I don't assume that at all, what i meant by that was the Reapers make it a point to wipe out all life in the galaxy before they become too technologically advanced, the Collectors are leagues ahead of Citadel space in technology so its logical to assume they either...

A) Work with the Reapers
B) Hide from the Reapers during the purge
C) Are Advanced enough to be an enemy of the Reapers and they use the Milky Way as a battlefield.

Those seem the most likely to me with what we know.

I think the Collectors have found a way to hide during the purges, yes. The Reapers aren't infallible or omniscient after all, despite what they might say. Some of the Protheans managed to hide during the purge, and the Collectors seem very isolated from the rest of the galaxy.

Sorry, but duh...the Reapers are willing to use organic life-forms if it serves their purpose. Please refer to Keepers and enslaved/indoctrinated Protheans.

I still say they're tech thieves, but I have to admit I can't concieve of a reason to be risking a war with the Council by attacking colonies. No matter the outcome of ME1, humans are now a Council race and wouldn't be so easily trifled with, especially after the Reaper attack only two years ago.

It's rather hypocritcal for them considering their loathness for organic life the the Collectors are their new thralls now since the Geth failed.

What, you actually think there's an easily-found method to the Reapers' madness :P?

Not much is clear what their motives are, maybe the Reapers subcontracted the Collectors to study why the humans are such pains in the ass :P

There technology is on almost on par with the Reapers(why they are so generous to give them that boggles my mind).  The beam cannon for instance.  It smells like hired help to me since they only need to Indoctrinate the leader to bend their entire race to their will.

Interesting thread, I still think that the Collectors and the Reapers have some form of relationship but what that is, I do not know. It could be a mutual one?

The reapers are using the collectors because they are a hive mind species, so just one reaper could control a vast army of these creatures.

This is why the reapers particularly like the insectoid hive-mind creatures like the Rachni, Keepers, and Collectors.

So the final mission will be taking down the hive mind/the Reaper in control of the hive mind and freeing the entire Collector race?

I guess I could see that as epic.

Well we know the Collectors have husk and comarible technology to Reapers, a very large mothership, have very little contact with other species and when they do it's to aquire "subjects" through trading technology. They're an insectoid race that assasinates Shepard and who's sole purpose in 2185 seems to be abducting Humans for research.

My best guess is that they're mere tools/creations of the Reapers. They might have a similar history to what Vigil's hypothesising on the origin of the Keepers was, but were kept to fullfill a more abstract function. Their main purpose being to find other species' weaknesses, strengths, indoctrination resistance and relay their findings to the Reapers to make sure their invassion has the least amount of hiccups as possible because of alien physiology etc.

In the event Plan A (Reaper invasion via Citadel Invasion) fails the Collectors might be the first part of a Plan B (Reaper invasion from Deep Space through another route). Instead of passive study of races over time and relaying the info back, the Collectors become much more proactive and direct. It's their mission now to seek out the reasons why Plan A failed (Shepard), destroy it (Shepard and the Normandy), study the source of said threat (Humanity) and find countermeasures (The new husks etc.). Doing so destabilizes the civilation buying time for the Reapers to arrive personally to reinforce their minions and annihilate intelligent organic life as planned.

I think this is a well-thought idea, but the problem is that the Citadel has never failed the Reapers before, a backup plan would probably have never occured to them. It's possible their role is something Sovereign set up prior to his death though... assuming he's dead. (Dun-dun-duun!!)

Great theory, really nothing I can disagree with it would be logical to have contingency plans like the Collectors if their normal plan fails.  The Collectors must have some way to contact the Reapers in dark space to warn them that the Citadel is compromised.

I'm dying to play ME2 so I can find out whats really going on lol
