1) Gaining XP is an exhausting chore. I only ever play PvE. I'd have been content to avoid Heroics, Ops, Flashpoints (some), and such if I were able to play the main story without a hitch. The problem I found was that without playing Heroics or Flashpoints I couldn't reach the required XP (or sometimes barely) to play the next level (planet). The second problem I found was that, more often than not, I could not solo these instances of gameplay unless I was several levels above the requirement what kind of defeats the purpose of playing them in the first place.
2) Ninja'd. It can be looting or it can be someone decimating your objective before you do so. In the first case, you may lose loot you actually need only because someone else needs it for "his companion." In the second, this leads to the inevitable waiting for enemies to respawn so you can kill them yourself. Both of them are annoying and in the latter you're also wasting time in the process.
3) It can get tediously repetitive. The first time you're introduced to a particular side quest it can be quite engaging, but it quickly loses its charm when every single character you play is faced with the same side quest at every turn. Even worse when said side quest involves making your way through fifty guys on your way in and then another fifty on your way out. Soon you'll simply go through the motions, skipping every single line of dialogue you can and, if possible, every enemy as well. Worst of all is you can't just ignore side quests because you need the XP to progress the main story. So, in the end, they become a chore more than a welcome interruption of the main narrative.
4) Backtracking. I have a holocom, why can't I receive and turn in quests via my holocom? Again, wasting time for no logical reason.
5) Kill, destroy, kill, destroy, k-Oh, you get the idea! Is it too much to ask to have more quests to do with exploration and discovery while having less kill-an-army-of-evil-minions in the process? Like I've said before, whether the percentages are accurate or not, it feels like 90% of what you do in this game is killing things. Eventually you reach a point where you dread the next quest because you know you'll have to waste plenty of time killing dozens of people before it's over. I have an idea, why can't you use diplomacy/persuasion to get out of a tight spot? Every outcome seems to always lead to a fight regardless.
Well, I think that about covers it. Now, having said all this, I'd like to clarify that my experience with MMOs is next to zero so it's possible that, in some cases, my complaints come from not knowing how to play an MMO. And that's basically the reason for my post. First, is there something I can do to solve some of my issues with the game? Perhaps EA/Bioware have solved some of them already? After all, it's been almost a year since I last played SWTOR.
I would ask this in the TOR boards but, apparently, you can't post unless you're subscribed what is kind of ironic since my post is basically about why I should rejoin the game.
