You're better off buying one adaptative armour set and using your planetary commendations to mod it.
Getting back to SWTOR

Also tried my first attempt at a flashpoint yesterday- Hammer station. It was a disaster- we had a healer, but otherwise it was three damage dealers with no tank to soak up the gruff. Ah well.
Actually, Hammer Station is designed for level 16ish characters, so tanking isn't really a Thing. People who might have specced tank at that point don't really have many abilities to differentiate them from DPS, and they don't have armor with mitigation stats on them (which only becomes available in the 30s and 40s). A DPS can certainly - and often does - faketank that flashpoint.
The problem with Hammer Station is more that it's a lot of players' first real introduction to fight mechanics. You can't just tank and spank through the whole thing. You have to use crowd-control powers on some of the groups. You have to focus-fire individual enemies in the fight with Vorgan the Volcano and his crew (and, ideally, somebody should try to tank "Torch"'s flamethrower away from the raid). And you have to remember to dodge Battlelord Kreshan's Sweeping Blasters and his sticky grenades, and detail a DPS to clean up the adds he summons.
That's a big difference from a lot of previous fights, and if players are new to an MMO they often don't understand a lot of that and simply try to plow through. And it doesn't work. So long as you handle all the mechanics, Hammer Station is cake. (Although it helps if players are actually using the right kind of gear; I can't count the number of times I've run Hammer Station with, say, Marauders who are wearing Cunning gear, or Powertechs with Strength armor.) People who don't know the fights blunder around and get toasted.
I'd say Flashpoints are totally worth it. They're one of the easiest ways to gear up early on, they provide a disproportionately large amount of experience, and later in the game they contain a good deal of key storyline information. (Especially "The Jedi Prisoner"/"A Call to Arms" in the 30s, then the Ilum plotline around level 50.) Don't get discouraged by one bad group - just put the scrubs on your ignore list and queue up again.

Eh, I was pretty scrubby myself. Past my shield burst and leg shot, I'm not sure how much my sniper can do with crowd control either. (Other than throw a lot of grenades into them, at least.) I suspect that the later I go, the more of a scrub I'll be for group activities. (Plus, I got tired of waiting for about 20 mins for anyone wanting to do a flashpoint- ah well.)
I won't deny that the Fleet Station's many vendors, options for options, and umpteen different commendations is a bit out of my depth as well. I haven't really found anywhere to spend planetary commendations, which are the only sort I've been getting.
Still, appreciating the storyline and side quests though. I'm impressed at how enjoyable playing the Empire side is- from cold professional to hammy evil is surprisingly fitting and enjoyable.

Though, since I can laugh at myself, I'll admit it was a tad humbling for someone to walk me through how to change servers so that I could join in a heroic group on a different map server. I was all, 'wtf?' when I went to the rally point and saw no one.

Female or male Imperial Agent? Go!
Male, obviously. Because the voice actor is so damn great.
It might not be immediately after, but at some point I'll do an evil/alien/Jadus playthrough with female agent, just cause differences.
Funny thing, though- I will never play the Republic Trooper as a female. Jennifer Hale is great and all, but one Shepard figure was enough. I find I can't reuse my main character voice actors.

Female IA's voice actress is femHawke. Also, Dr. Brynn Cole.
For whatever reason, I was able to segregate the various Jo Wyatt voices in BioWare games in my head when I played; I still don't think of the IA and Hawke as being 'the same'. But I can't do that with Hale voices. When I made myself a tankguard, I always had 'Shepard' in the back of my mind.

I'm at the crossroads between Sniper and Operative. Which one would you recommend and why? Also, what crew skills should I get?
#287
Posté 15 avril 2014 - 02:52
I like the Operative's playstyle a little more, mostly because it's versatile and it fits my idea of what an Agent 'should' be better: more oriented toward close combat and concealment. You can also respec on the fly to heal group content and dps solo content, which is a big plus in my book.
You can go a lot of different routes with Agent crew skills. Vector's +5 Diplomacy Critical is fantastic and makes Agents one of the best Biochem classes in the game (Biochem + Bioanalysis + Diplomacy). Temple has +2 Armormech Critical, which is also very good for late-game augment crafting and which synergizes well with Kaliyo's +2 Underworld Trading Critical.
Alternatively, if you're not worried about crafting, you could just pick up a gathering skill + Slicing + Diplomacy to take maximum advantage of your crits. You can GTN all the gathered mats for a nice pile of cash after each planet, and get even more credits by slicing every node you run into. Then, late-game, you have SCORPIO farm high-level Slicing missions for thermal regulators to sell, while Vector does the same with Diplomacy for gifts and mats.

Sniper is the better DPS of the two by far then? Have you played an Operative build?
#289
Posté 15 avril 2014 - 03:29
I have played an Operative before, but I only got her up to level 54. She was about halfway through Corellia when I stopped playing. Never did operations or the overtuned Czerka flashpoints with her, so my understanding of the finer nuances of Op heals aren't that great, either. And Ops have undergone significant changes with the latest patch anyway. But in general, Op heals are pretty easy to maintain on autopilot, and Op dps is fun if you like moving around a lot.

Well, I'm not dwelling on Ops at the moment. I'm leaning towards this build:

Though it means I'll have to re-learn how to heal. ![]()

Healing is ezpz, especially if you remember the hotkey to tab-target between the members of your group.
Well, during story/quests my group will be rather limited. ![]()

Ew, solo PvE heals? Snoozefest. I leveled a heals Sorc to 55 once and swore to never do it again. Respec to dps for solo content!
Yes, that's what worries me. I could start with a lethality/concealment build and then switch it up at level 55 for ops and fps.

Well, fortunately for me I've never done a full femHawke playthrough. I may pass on it in order to better enjoy SWTOR, I suppose.
Hale's voice is good, but just too distinctive/familiar. Ran into a similar problem for, forgive my ignorance and laziness for not finding it, Ashley Williams. In the game XCOM: Enemy Unknown, she is one of the voices for female soldiers, right down to the 'Understood, Commander.'
Mind you, a game based around fighting off an evil alien invasion meshes pretty well for 'Ashely Williams' in my head. Hearing Commander Shepard in Star Wars, however, just makes start thinking up a crossover.

Got back to the game over the double EXP weekend. Quite a bit of fun so far, got my trooper forward to level 44. Still bit of a shame there's not that much of class storyline for me to explore afterwards. Only classes, besides Consular, that have a completely new story for me to discover are the two classes that don't fit my style at all.

So I can't decide which path I should do next. I've already done Sith warrior light side and almost finished Bounty hunter light side. What would be a good one to follow up with?

Light side Imperial Agent. You believe in serving and protecting the Empire and it's people. My favorite class story by far.

Concealment build is nice for solo levelling, but you need to wait a bit to get all your main skills. I found it works best with a tank companion.
Levelling as a healer is the easiest way to go, but you really need a dps companion to maintain a good levelling speed.
