I honestly expect no reasonableness to be had on this front, if history is any evidence. People want what they want, and will lament when they don't get it. Nothing wrong with that, so long as they don't start suggesting that they're entitled to romance who and what they want in the game, and that we are bad guys for actively turning off the romance switch for characters who, in their minds, should be sex-able. The idea that not every character in the game will or even should be available to them just doesn't compute, apparently.

I think people are entitled to what they want to the extent that if they don't get it, they don't have buy the game. For example perhaps there is a person out there that doesn't particularly likes DA game in general but does like the romance options. So if it comes to a point to where this person doesn't get the "romance options" that he/she wants,  they won't buy the game.

I for example, will wait a few months after DAI comes out to purchase it just so I can make sure the game is offering me what I want. In the end DAI, like any other video game, is a product to be purchased and is driven by what the potential consumer who buys it wants.

That being said, I know BW/EA doesn't care one bit if I buy their game or not, I'm just one person in a tiny demographic. But sooner or later if they keep making a product that doesn't give their core audiecne what it wants in DA Universe then...well...they can always make another ME game.

From what I have seen and heard about DAI, I think they will probably make many, many people happy and those who don't ultimately buy the game because it doesn't offer them what they want won't really amount to too that many anyway.

All we can do is hope.

You are a spoiled brat and should feel bad, and now allow me to explain why, exactly, I feel that way.

1. You are resorting to threatening not to buy dragon age inquisition for no other reason than not getting to stick your characters penis or have their virutal vagina penetrated by a specific character you want. As in, everything else in the game, the story, the characters who you don't plan on romancing, the setting, all of it means less to you than getting to bang.

2. If a person is spending 60 dollars on a third installment to a franchise just because it has a character they want to ****, that is a horrible reason to get into a series. That is a qualification for buying a dating sim, and should not even be a factor in buying a action fantasy rpg. That person should not buy the game if he or she hadn't already been interested in any other factors, period.

3. "Core audience"? I believe the core audience of the game wish to see the resolution of the plot started in DA2, and to expeirnece the world of thedas, not just buying it to bang midgets and grey skinned giants. This whole "But sooner or later if they keep making a product that doesn't give their core audiecne what it wants in DA Universe then...well...they can always make another ME game. " bull**** mentality pisses me off and strikes me as someone yelling "You'll be sorry for this" over not getting some miniscule part of a game package.

You rub me in all the wrong ways, and if people like you don't buy the game, than good riddence to bad rubish.

However, I think there is a difference between non-romances that make sense (Shale, Wynne, and, yes, even Oghren, the later of which was a character clearly designed to be the bungling drunken sad story sidekick) and non-romances that, honestly, appear to be a writer simply saying "I don't want this character to be a romance," without any real justification as to why not.

We don't need to justify "why not". Romances don't just spring magically into being unless there's a reason to prevent them from doing so-- they require a lot of content. We're only allowed to have so many, and we only want to write so many.

I get why someone might like a character and think how a romance added onto what's already there would be awesome. Suggesting, however, that we need to justify why we "kept them from you"-- for Selfish Writer Reasons, obviously-- particularly when there's far more to creating one in a game than whipping up some extra words, is exactly what I was talking about in my original post.

I can respect that, for the most part. And I do not mean you, personally, have to justify it, i.e standing up in front of an audience or making a blog post or something. No gamer is entitled to anything like that. I mean in the context of the story. When it really feels like a romance should be there or would make sense given the nature of the relationship between the characters or history between the characters and it just isn't.

Instead you have something like companion A gets married to secondary/background character B and that's that. When you have a thing like some random hot NPC (e.g. a Desire Demon -yeah I saw that idiot comment- ) you understand why there isn't a romance. So I think there is a sensical difference. If you chose not to incorporate a romance for whatever reason (time, logistics, don't feel like it), well, then, there it is and there's nothing that can change that. Certianly doesn't ruin the game, it's just disappointing.

Also, with all due respect, using the term "sex-able" to highlight my frame of mind is kind of insulting and childish sir. Romances don't always equate or mean "sex." Neverwinter Night's expansion romance with Arabeth is a perfect example of a love that doesn't need to be physical.

I just want a dwarf romance so my character doesn't have to be in the 'female' position in the poorly animated romance scenes, I always got the impression that Leliana was pegging my dwarf or something. :(

Do you have any evidence that shows the majority of players do not have a romance?

Do you have evidence to show the majority of fans think romances are the most important factor in the game? Not just a factor mind you, or one of a few key factors, but the most important part of the story, being the romances and how they resolve in the plot.

Because those are mancers, the ones who think romances come before plot, setting, characters, logic, and the writing team.

Kind of of an off shoot of this topic, but I wonder if Bioware does focus groups testing how major plot choices will go over (to include LI) or if it is simply whatever the writer wants.

Anyone know? Because I'm guessing if its focus groups, given a finite number of LIs, the dwarf option is never winning.

Seeing as every Bioware romance of late are all the same archetype. I think they just pick the most cliche romance novel characters they can and make a romance for them.

Oh ok well that was my mistake. I thought a 'mancer' was someone who likes to pursue a romance in games, such as myself, not someone who will buy any game as long a it has romance in it.

So are 'Talimancers' people who only buy games in which they can romance Tali or something?

Yes I'm being difficult on purpose :3
