If you're going to make these stupid little comments, could you at the very least make sure they're not pointless as well?spirosz wrote...

Gosh, nothing like a thread full of people obsessing about something and everything telling everyone else not to obsess about it.
Sounds familiar.
Heroic, even.
How is this the slightest bit familiar to anything I've said?

I just don't want it because I know my friends will drag me to see it. Just like they did with Transformers. TRANSFORMERS!
Aw, man. I'm sorry about that.

Re-read what you just wrote above and relate that to what you just replied to me about. "Pointless".

Fortunately I haven't watched any of them. My ex tried to drag me to a cinema for the second. My ex...

Besides, I thought it already came out. It was that one with Matt Damon.

Video Game movies don't have a good track record to the point where they should be banned from becoming movies
Mass Effect, I feel, is a bit of an odd duck in that the story does not necessarily rely on "video game logic" to move forward. I think that in the right hands, it can feel right at home in the cinema. Of course, my perception of the film will be colored up by some of the things the game affords us, like specific choices we make, the personality we can steer toward for the protagonist, and, admittedly a minor point, the look/gender of the protagonist him/herself. Mass Effect is certainly no BloodRayne, Tomb Raider, Doom, or Super Mario Bros. (SHUDDER).
The thing that I'm really wondering is how they'll resolve the story. I kind of hope they pull some kind of rabbit out of their hat if they get that far, and veer away from the premise the ending of ME3 pushed. Here's to hoping that if the movie really does exist, it doesn't end up like The Golden Compass, being a total crapfest, and dying with the first film.

This is never coming out don't worry.
Given that a Mass Effect film project was first announced in 2010, and now 3 years later they are talking about a 2018 or 2019 release....
....yep, sounds like it is stuck in development hell.

Exactly. Hollywood wants a Mass Effect movie because it's already a recognisible franchise that can make big bucks from a cheap budget with a couple of well cut trailers and the big, bold series title font splashed everywhere.Han Shot First wrote...

Maybe, by 2019, people will stop overreacting over video games and fictional craaaahahahaahah. I can't do it, I can't say it with a straight face.
2017, start of the first ever fandom wars involving actually artillery and armed forces conflict. Calling it now.
I'm not opposed to a Mass Effect movie because of the endings. Besides, if Mass Effect were filmed you can bet the movie ending will bear little resemblance to the endings in the games. Much of what went on in the original endings would be completely unfilmable.
I don't want to see a Mass Effect movie because I have little faith that Hollywood would give it the budget, writers, cast, and film crew that it deserves. Instead it would likely be made on the cheap, be written by hacks, acted and directed by Hollywood's C and D list, and capped off with bad CGI and special effects. Hollywood's track record with game-to-film adaptations does not inspire any confidence in this movie project.
What I don't get is how people can even care enough to leave a comment, that's the baffleing part for me.
It's 5 to 6 years away, nobody even knows if it'll go made at that point, but here we all are, discussing it as if there's anything of substance to even discuss, when we've basically learned nothing new with how far away the dates been set.
It's just weird.

It'll probably remain in development hell for the forseeable future, but it's still fun to speculate on the hypothetical quality of the movie. I'm hoping that it'll be so bad it's good. If it isn't, then it'll probably be just another unremarkable sci-fi movie out there.

Arad says that some movies take five to six years to make, but the movie has been in the planning stages for several years now. I don't think he means it will be a 2018 or 2019 release at all. It just seems like an incorrect interpretation from the person who wrote the article.
This. He didn't say the ME movie was 5-6 years out, he said some movies take that long to make. The movie was first announced in 2010 I think, so this would mean it's 2 to 3 years out.

My prediction is 2016 (if it gets made at all) because 2015 is too eventful. Avengers 2 en Batman vs. Superman in summer, Star Wars in winter. They can't copmpete with that, except maybe if they want to profit from Star Wars' success by planning a space opera right after its theatrical run.ozthegweat wrote...

Sounds about right. I'm sure a guy like Arad has his connections and already knows if the movie could face even stronger competition in 2016, and will adjust the production schedule accordingly.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to it!
