I dunno I like the bickering the way it is I don't think we need more of that. Plus I would like a party of people that get on a little bit better than the previous games.

I suppose there's no reason why not, so long as it doesn't take away from the non romance related griping. I like the bickering, it would seem odd to have a party of a half dozen or more disperate people and not see a bit low level friction. If it's the same level as that - the odd throwaway line here or there - why not.

Not the full Eastenders version though, with a screaming fistfight and people pulling the combatants back screaming '"Leave it Harry, he's not worth it!"

... and I shouldn't have written that, now I want to see it, just for a laugh. They should do a gag reel. Jade Empire had one of those didin't it?

I know there are people who may have self-esteem issues, but asking for this ... is just too low.

Honestly, I just want a challenge in romances. Maybe not to the "walking through a minefield" level that was BG2's Viconia, but something - anything - other than the way DA2 handled it. In fact, let's just forget DA2 existed in that area.

What, and playing a big powerful hero who saves the world or the girl or his family in every game out there ISN'T about ego-stroking?

On topic: Bickering is fine, and I like it when the LI shows some possessiviness (according to their personality, of course), but an all-out fistfight might be a bit too much. Unless the LI is overreacting and the PC has the option to get plain irritated at being treated like a prize to be fought over.
And if the LI ISN'T overreacting because the PC actually did cheat on them...well, I vote the PC gets dumped. Serves them right.

Please save the childish fights over romances for your highschool AU fanfics. As others have said, the idea that characters who hold no grudge against each other, but would fight over the player character, is immature ego stroking. No thanks.

Now, I don't have a problem with the idea of characters whose view points are diametrically opposed coming to blows, if things come to a crisis point, as in Baldur's Gate 2, or, in a romance, being forced to choose if I were trying to romance two characters at the same time. It's the fighting part, especially as I've seen fans on this board want it to happen, that I find unappealing.

Won't be happening .
Google nuanced romances for DAI then read an article .
Romances would seem to be harder to initiate and harder to maintain .
Heck they might even be mutually exclusive meaning no more multiple romances in a game.
shrugs.
So end of line on this thread.
lol.

TBH...

Do you guys really think the former seeker/royal blood like Cassandra or the candidate
of the first enchanter like Vivienne will fight over you (Inquisitor)?

Varric? seriously... A beard guy? You gotta be joking...

Anyway, that's just example... all of them probably not romanceable.

No thanks. People fighting over one another like dogs over table scraps is pretty unattractive. Two people physically fighting over my attentions would get them both expelled from my company. And if they were contemptuous because of my own misdeeds at pursuing them both I would expect them to confront me about it... not each other.

I agree.
I mean, can you imagine Cassandra and some other female slapping and scratching each other while screeching 'The Inquisitor is miiiiine, you tramp!' like the females in every bad 'reality' show ever?

Or Varric 'Mr. Coolguy' Tethras getting jealous or insecure? Please, he knows that no person in their right mind would ever exchange his glorious chest hair for an inferior model.

Though now I really do want a gag reel in the style of a bad reality show, complete with shaky camera handling and horrible acting. :D

Game like this are normally about ego-stroking . You're always the center of attention. You're the best, strongest, most awesome, most beautiful and you're a gods among men and every girl/gal want to get into your pants. It's a fantasy video game for a reason.

BioWare tend to give more personalities to your companion. The fact that they can leave you and challenge your descision. They're less ''sidekick'' than in some other game. I actually would love to see companion cheating the protagonist or leading in some quest where you're actually more second plan. Not always about the mighty protagonist all the time.

And I thought companions do have decent IQ and this sense of duty as not to indulge themselves in situations strongly resembling those from spanish soap operas. It just doesn't cut it.

That just seems like something that would stroke the player's ego, so seeing love interests fight over my character is not something I want.

I don't mind some comments- like when Fenris tells Zevran not to test his luck, or when Leliana has her little jealous rant if you are romancing someone else. However I think the characters should be mature enough not to get in a fistfight.

No thanks, it was annoying enough that Isabela gets slightly snippy and jealous in MotA if you flirt with Tallis.

Isabela flirts with everyone under the sun, and even decides to sleep with Zev whether or not you're romancing her, yet she gets jealous if Hawke simply flirts with someone else? Seeing as she only does this in MotA and not in the main game, I get the impression Bioware added it because they got the impression we'd like to see LIs get jealous, whether it suits the character or not.

Yeah friction is fine (allthough it is quite easy to accidentally start a romance with lelianna without even knowing it).

but an actual fight would be so silly especially in this setting it may have worked in da2 (allthough I would never ask for it) but not in this game.

I would like to see more of it. It just seems odd to me that a companion is shown to have feelings for the PC and when you choose the other LI it's just ignored, forgotten and that companion just goes "la, la. la" and on with his day.

At least some resentment toward the other character would be more natural imo.
I liked it that Anders warned you to be careful with Fenris. It showed he didn't just forget the feelings and conversations of previous chapters like it never happened.

I would love to have a few banters/convos regarding jealous companions. I loved it when you flirt with Alistair and Leliana as a female warden.

She doesn't if Hawke tells her s/he's not comfortable with that.

Plus, there are plenty of people out there who are like that. Who flirt with other people but get jealous when their partner does the same. *shrug* I didn't think it was that out-of-character.
Now if she'd made a big scene involving tearful accusations and broken dishes, THEN I might have gotten a bit suspicious.

I know, but the fact that Hawke had to speak up gave me the impression Isabela didn't see promiscuity as a big deal, and that open-relationships were her default state.

True, but given that we have plenty of other monogamous LIs, I'd have just found it nice to have an LI that really didn't mind you flirting with others. I can't remember if Zevran did though, so perhaps we've already had one.

Ha, I think I'd be getting worried if any of the LIs started doing that.

I'd like it better if they resented the PC for not choosing them.
