I have seen many trailers with Thane and Sub Z attacking their foes with melee attacks. Are these melee attack also useable by Shepard?

Those melee attacks are simply for the cutscenes. We'll get the all too typical rifle butt/pistol whip in ME2. There was originally a haymaker punch (similar to Resident Evil 4 or 5, I'm assuming), but they took it out.

There's supposed to be a three hit combo of some sort in the game, though.

Bumps will get your thread locked, btw. And since you asked for a post from a Bioware employee, you are probably SOL. I have seen none here yet.

The cutscenes aren't indicative of gameplay, man, I mean, Samara levitates in one.

Yea I guess I'm asking for too much to have some form of melee in a FPS/TPS action game. I just lost my head thinking BioWare could pull of what Bethesda did in Fallout/3.

Not just levitates, she flys across a room like Magneto. I doubt she has that ability in the game.
