Call me a fool

1 Inexperienced with computers
2 played at least 200 mods.
3 never removed anything from any folder.
4 I have the Diamond Ed. 1.69
Over a span of time certain things are now broken.
Grenade weapons don't work. Some spells don't work (Flamestrike), Horses not appearing in mods that should have them. Horse radial commands not working.
After reading many post on this site, I am guessing it is an override problem.
I downloaded the critical rebuild, but am afraid to use it. I am not even sure this will fix my problems.
Both my override and hak folders have uncountable files. Can I remove these without damaging my game ?
Is it possible to fix my game without losing all those hours of download time ?

your issue is 99.9% likely in your override folder.

Do your testing again. If things work as they should, you can start copying files from the backup folder to the fresh one.
By the sounds of things, the culprits may be feat.2da (controlling the horse radial menu), spells.2da (controlling spells and grenade weapons), then possibly appearance.2da and tailmodel.2da (for horses).
For specific functions, you'll also want to test any .ncs files (neverwinter compiled scripts) that may have ended up in your override folder.
And if you're playing modules that use haks, any such files within those haks will override both the default game resources and the ones in the override folder. If clearing out the override folder doesn't fix things for a module you're playing, it could be something in one of the hak files used by that module.

First of all, I want to say thank you for not starting your replies with,"You fool !". I will create the new file and test. I will keep the rebuild file, but not run it. I think my biggest fear is that it would clean out files, when I had no idea what was supposed to be in them. You have made a noob feel much better today. Thank You.

Just my sense of humor, but I was sorely tempted to start my earlier reply with "Ok, since you insist, you're a fool." (because the title said to), then continue on with my answer normally. But your original post seemed like you weren't really in the mood for that.Ed Venture wrote...

Oh, and I should mention that with haks, they only affect the game for modules that are set up to use them. They do not interfere with modules that do not have those haks associated with them.

Ehm sorry, but yo uare fool if you are afraid to use *official* patch. Its probably harsh to say that but its true. If you hate me for honest opinion so be it.Ed Venture wrote...

overrride can be easily deactivated by renaming the folder - when you proof its not by override you can restore it
Definitely, but for a future you might consider manage your override in better way. Either keep the original packages you added to the folder so you can backwards check which file comes from which pack. Or you can use the nwnpatch.ini method to manage and divide your override into separate haks for higher control over them.Is it possible to fix my game without losing all those hours of download time ?
And one thing about computers - when something suddenly stop working, first thing you have to find out is when it was last time it worked and what changed since then. Your issue specifically sounds like adding some outdated 2da files to your override, files that were not updated for a patch 1.69 but without knowing what changed we cant be sure.

I don't think it's foolish to be worried about borking your install with a scorched earth solution. Besides, it's good sense to ask if you don't know the answer to a question.ShaDoOoW wrote...

The critical rebuild WILL empty the override, so back it up. Then you can run the critical rebuild without worries. However, the critical rebuild probably won't solve your issue - like many others have said, it sounds like an override issue.

I was under impression that it rename the override folder to "override_bak" so no files are lost.Pstemarie wrote...

And you dont have to worry about my responses. I write what I think and prefer the same from others, better than write opposite of what you really think or remain silent and dont comment it. So common on these forums especially in custom content subforum.

I hate you all. Just Kidding ! I am a big boy (55) I prefer honesty. I have a good sense of humor ( a little warped sometimes). I have many years as a PNP DM. DMing teachs you not to let your ego run the game(Sorry everybody, I thought you were strong enough to handle an anchient red.).
I'll admitt that you people can be a little intimidating, but only because I am in awe of your talent.
I have had nothing but good experiences, in my dealings with you all. Thank You. I deeply appreciate the time and effort you are willing to give to help out a new builder.
You are all Good People !
