Oo, me! I'm average! I've maxed my manifest, so that's not an excuse. I'm just not great at headshotting and sometimes I run around like a headless chicken. My performance curve is pretty much flattening out now, so I'll just have to be content with "meh, ok."

Oh you're SSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOO average <_< like when you clutched that Platinum game with almost the whole spawn budget left for wave 7.

Some of us on BSN are, in the grand scheme of things good at this game but not BSN "Good"

In a PUG we will probably dominate the match but with three others from here the scoreboard won't be a fantasic representation of skill.   Getting to the spawn first is the major factor.

I play with a lot from here I can be first or last (more often) just depends on the day, the kit etc.

That was pretty much an anomaly. I can sometimes clutch on Gold, but have also occasionally failed to clutch on Silver. lol. I also have good games and bad depending on my kit/team/map/faction, etc. I'm usually somewhere in the middle of the scoreboard, so I consider that to be average. L33t players can dominate with any kit and that's definitely not me.

I prefer to play with groups where the score is close. It means everyone got enough things to kill and worked well together.

I'm pretty damn average now, having returned from a 3-4 month break... I've lost my mojo! And judging by the game I just finished, I have completely forgotten how to Shadow.

Don't be jealous, a maxed manifest is really kind of a let down. (I know, easy for me to say, right?)

Also, If you got to wave 8  on your first gold solo attempt, you're doing really well. I'm sure you'll get it soon!

I'm still jealous, even if you're disappointed. Also, it was intentional. For some reason, it made a lot of sense to me at the time that I should be able to solo Gold before playing it in PUGs. I suspect I could with some kits if someone invented a drug for increasing patience, but until then, I'm not going for it.

I think your standards are too high. You should be playing gold, with friends if not PUGs. There's no rule that says you must be able to clutch before entering a new difficulty. If that were the case I'd still be playing Bronze, lol.

If you're on PC you can add me and we can play some gold. (Shinobu211) Maxing a manifest becomes much faster when you start earning more credits.

EDIT: DERP, you're obviously playing gold from your OP. Well, if we can find some friends we can play Plat.

There are a lot of factors that affect how good a player seems to be in any given match. Lag especially can turn a 200k killer into 90k filler.

I'd say that learning curves are not always steady and smooth. What you're perceiving as your peak could just be a flat spot on your way to greatness.

I would not call myself great, and never cared to solo anything. But unless I fall into a match with someone like ThisIsAaron, I'm probably the one pulling the team to victory. Frankly, I'm happy whenever there are players in my pug who are better than me and suddenly 22 minute games become 16 minute boom fests.

I agree with you on better players having an unfathomable level of ability. There are 4 players on PS3 that I've played with who fall into that catagory, I sometimes just can't work out how the hell they're killing so quick.

Thanks, Shinobu. My manifest isn't terrible (nearly all Gold cards maxed, and most URs at least unlocked); I'm just not an exceptional player. Might take you up on that offer sometime. Timezone?

And I played with you once months ago in one of my early Gold PUGs (trio on Vancouver, if I remember), Shampoohorn/Zerfidius; you were good. Lag is a wildcard. I tend to get a lot of it, in my part of the world.

I've been reading these forums for some time. The tips, builds and strategies I've found have improved my game greatly but I've come to the conclusion that I'll probably never be BSN "good". I wouldn't have BotB if it weren't for BSN solo guides.

On a good day I can save a wave or two but it won't be pretty. There is no such thing as an OP kit when I play it.

I might be average but as long as I'm not the pug you complain about then that's good enough for me.

I'm in the US. EST (GMT-5). Wait, were you a female human sentinel? IIRC I was a bit worried when the fourth dropped out but the three of us worked well together.

I feel the same way, but dude, you're good. I remember the first game we invited you to play and you clutched wave 1 of Plat on Condor when the rest of us got immediately sync-killed. That was embarrassing.:pinched:

Not all of us can be Feneckus or whoever, true, but I guess I'm coming to realize that just because we're average doesn't mean we're not good. :wizard:

Nope; that second bit was directed at Shampoohorn. I don't recall playing with you. I'm in Taiwan, so I'll probably lag a lot playing with you, but I'm up for it sometime.

09_Trooper, I did play with you a couple weeks ago. Reapers on Dagger. I remember feeling a bit bad because I nuked a spawn when I noticed I was running short on time to get ready for work. It was a good game: fairly even across the board.

You sound like you should try solo gold speedrunning then.

It's kill or be killed.

Ah, I know that feeling.

Dang, it's been ages since I've felt it though. It makes me a bit nostalgic

I'm okay at the game, I rarely play above silver and my best games I'm usually second or third in the points, but there's nothing that annoys me more than the people that ignore the objectives so that they can get kills. If all you care about is kills why not play Halo or CoD?

Second, whenever I play with BSNers, I'm reminded that there's a level of ability I can't really fathom.

FWIW I used to be in your position. Now I'm the guy outscoring most BSNers by clear margins. It's not magic or innate ability at least in my case; it's just a matter of transitioning between enemies really, really fast, knowing how to use the strengths of whichever kit you're playing, and playing as aggressive as possible but not quite so aggressive that I'll run out of gels. Can't even say technical ability plays into it at all because I'll do about the same thing with a Krogan Shaman that I'll get out of a Talon TSol.

Also, scorewhoring is real. It doesn't even have to involve missiles. If you always seem to be drawing all the aggro from the heavy bosses while the 'better player' always seems to be on the other side of map killing smaller bosses and captains, they're scorewhoring. The reason I rarely break 200k on the scoreboard anymore is because I decided to stop screwing my teammates by letting them struggle with two banshees while I rack up points on the other side of the map.

There's still another tier above me...maybe two but it's hard for me to be sure. Either way, I'm pretty sure the difference between me and those guys is just much better consistency with their aim.

I disagree with this actually; only if the lag is so bad you're rubberbanding or someone else is an incredibly quick killer. Otherwise it doesn't actually make that much difference. The last time I felt lag actually made a big difference was on Sirians host (quite some time ago now). I would shoot a target, there'd be a slight delay of the target just standing there, and then it'd be OnlyUseMeGI [Wraith] Victom. But he falls into the incredibly quick killer category.

I consider myself a mediocre player, yet I manage to outscore some BSNers. When I played with some S.P.E.C.T.R.E's during Lodestar II I managed to outscore some of them. Of course, I was using the Drell and Salarian Infis.

Honestly, as long as I don't have to revive someone every 1 to 10 seconds, I don't care.
