I still call bull****.
You solod plat with a lvl 1 kit.

If that's not grounds to being above average then what is?

Something like chopping off you own legs and arms and head then falling backwards into a fire place, burning to a crisp and then STILL managing to solo platinum with a lvl 1 Volus Mercenary while using no gear or consumables with a Shuriken 1, while controlling the game with the charred remains of ones **** or boobs?

See?  A perfect example of what I was saying.

I don't know if it's a case of false humility, or honest lack of appreciation, but this is NOT average by any standard--BSN or otherwise.

The average players of BSN breath some pretty rareified air, but they've become so accustomed to it, that they don't even notice any longer.

You know, it could be pretty intimidating--downright discouraging actually-- for a new player coming here to think that soloing platinum with a lvl one is what's required to just be considered "average"!  **YIKES**

On the other end of the BSN spectrum, we have those player who get sync killed by geth primes on wave 3.

Those who think a  weapon that fills the entire hallway with its spread makes it a good weapon, after all "some of those shots will be headshots"

And those who think that N7 is the only valid way of measuring player skill.

The BSN is not composed of JUST the best players, some of the more, uh, "casual" players come here as well.

LOL...agreed!!! After all, I'm one of them.  I didn't mean it to apply to all BSNers.  I apologize if it came across that way.  Oh,,,and I also don't mean it to be a slight to those to whom it does apply.  I admire their skill, but am just a bit mystified that they don't seem to realize how good they truly are--especially when compared to the "typical" non-BSNer.

I always end up last or second to last in platinum games... does that make me average or below average?

I aspire to mediocrity. Maybe some day, BSN, I won't be ashamed.

Depends on people you play with.

If it's somebody like FTFTL, Roja Juanita - then ok. If it's pugs, then, umm, well...

The real way you recognize whether someone is really good is to check on 2 things.

First, how many times do they drop all game? If they never require revives from anyone, they are good especially if they are lagging. This means they have anti lag techniques.

Second and more importantly, what do they do when objective waves come along, in particular 4 devices with no infiltrator. There are some device locations that are really a pain in the ass. If you see someone deliberately suck aggro and kite, you know that guy is good especially when shooty factions are involved (reapers are easy to kite).

If you're doing a tough hack location and a non infiltrator keeps everyone up while not falling on his face, that guy is good. Alternatively, you find yourself with no monsters in your vincinty after the guy did something strange, then that guy knows what he is doing.

If its a package, look at how he moves. If he's running the package, look at his route. Smart routes go around spawn well before they become any sort of threat. If he's not running the package, check how he avoids getting shot to pieces. Cover sliding and certain movements on certain kits tells you the guy knows what he is doing.

If its assassination and the guy can be late to the spawn and it has already scattered and still force a switch, he knows what he's doing

PUG = Top Score, tell GF I'm a badass
PUG with SilentStep, Grim and VictoriaKM = Score fourth, eat ice cream under table while weeping :D

Damn right, I'm mediocre, some people are just awesome at this game :D:D:D:D

I'm one of the decent, not great bsn'ers. Hi! I don't pug much anymore, I'm happy with my group of regulars, where I can end up from 1st to 4th. I still feel like I contribute a lot regardless, and I also tend to use quirky or non-ideal builds and guns.

10 months ago was 10k, so now it's like 2? :P

I just can't seem to get any points when using my Paladin to block everything on Platinum :crying:

What have you been smoking friend?!

I never did a Platinum solo with a level 1. I was the first one here to post a video of a 10 waves survived Platinum solo though, and I was the first one here to post videos of flawless Gold solos (aka no consumables used). I have soloed Gold with lvl 1 characters a lot in the past but never Platinum.

I believe that the solo you are thinking of is the lvl 0 Gold solo with the Avenger that I did. Took me about 10 seconds to kill a Husk but it was doable.

So no, since your post is really incorrect I think I've proven my point of being average.

I wouldn't call flawless gold solo average in any way. ;) I haven't ever soloed anything, apart from clutching waves, that's way more average. :P

I consider myself pretty good compared to the average PUG. Compared to the average BSNer though, I'm probably pretty bad. I can carry almost any PUG through gold, though certain characters will give me a higher success rate than others, and I need a second at least halfway competent player to guarantee success. It also depends on the objectives; 4 devices on wave 6 or 10 collectors is pretty much a lost cause with most PUGs.

I've soloed gold for the challenges, but I did it using a Kroguard easy mode setup. I never intend to do it again. I've played Platinum a grand total of 3 times (twice after a very good gold PUG invited me which went great, and once I searched for it myself and after 5 Rio/Reapers lobbies I finally found an U/U/P pug that ended in utter disaster at wave 3; this is why I don't play Platinum).

So I guess I'm okay.

(Quirrel, okay is wonderful!)

Lolno. You're way above average as a player.

You're just smart enough as a person to understand that score doesn't mean much :P

Dumdum pls. In your personal way, you're one of the best players around here. Or maybe you were, if you really have lost contact with the game.

What I can tell for sure is that you were one of the best trolls... And you still are for sure

I really have lost contact with the game, hardly ever play at all anymore. It's still one of my favorite games, it's just that real life and other games take away too much time for me to be able to play ME3.

I did however try to get some U/U/P and U/U/G in with PUGs about a week ago. Was nice to see that my GI GPS can still score 350-400k on Platinum and 250-300k on Gold without much problem in a 20-25 minute match. Still, that's not anything to brag about really since those scores must be considered way below average on BSN these days and PUGs will be PUGs.

Maybe I should get a few hours of gameplay soon to finally max my manifest out. If there are other average players here who would like to play a few games then feel free to add me on XBL :)

And you call yourself average.
Meaning that anyone who CAN'T pull off a 10 waves survived plat solo would be below average.

Thinking like that is just plain arrogance even if you had ''lost your touch''.
Oh and you had this same attitude even when you were active in game.

My friend you're the one smoking or just one of the most arrogant gits on these forums.

I think I'm about average. When playing with friends who're really good, I'm normally last. And I usually do better when I pug, but that might be becuase I tend to play with my favourite char and good kit. However, tried a Gold pug for the first time with my alt last night, so really low level kit, and was pleased to see that I almost caught up with the third place player, even though I joined wave 4. But this isn't about points is it ;p its a team game.

A Mass Effect thread that uses MMA comparisons? If telekinetic high fives were a thing...

As the OP of the "Lurkers Unite" thread I would have to say that this ties in well with my point. If I could use my own MMA comparison:

I live in Scotland, and train at one of the more well known MMA gyms there. One morning, completely unannounced, Randy Couture wanders off the street. I almost wet myself. It turns out he was over promoting his new book and decided to check us out since he was in the area.
Here was the opportunity of a lifetime. I had a thousand questions that I would have loved to ask, but instead (and I'll regret it forever) I "lurked" in the background trying my best to hear what was being said, hoping to glean a snippet of overheard advice rather than look stupid in front of one of my idols.

And so the BSN forums. From a "mediocre" perspective it's easy to get the impression that everyone here is Randy Couture, and a small fraction of you will be elite. But where there is an elite there has to be an average to compare it to, and by the very definition of average there must be a far greater number of middle-of-the-road BSNers who just don't interact.

The problem is that those who are very good at the game are much more comfortable in the spotlight of their peers than those "mediocre" BSNers, like me, who don't want to appear stupid in front of those they would wish to impress.

The result is an unfortunately skewed impression of the talent level here on BSN, which by it's inhibitive nature will prevent many of us mediocre players from interacting and becoming anything other than mediocre.
