It is ambitious, but I don't think it is unreasonable when you consider how long the game will be in development before it launches. Considering the DA2 expansion pack was cancelled and rolled into DAI, it seems like DAI will be in development for possibly 4 years or more.

I am not suggesting that development time guarantees quality, but I do trust that when Bioware devs are given the resources, they have the raw talent to make great games. So long as the games and the endings are not rushed for deadlines and holiday launch dates, I think Bioware can deliver.

I think DA2 was am ambitious game that suffered because it needed another 1+ year of development time, iteration and polish. I think if it had gotten that extra time, DA2 would have been a much better game in every way.

Methinks you should read some of David Gaider's blogs about writing for videogames and how BioWare distributes its resources.  It would be enlightening for you I feel.

provide a link, and I might read when i get time. College starting up next month and I have to make sure I am ready.

Until then, I do not see the need to extend the development when a human protag was fine with me.

DAII was bound given the timeline. I'm not sure it would have been a succes with or without ambition.

I disagree, mainly because ambition could be many things. Time-clocked or not, it did try to do a lot of stuff differently than before.

People have been wanting playable races even since DA2,Bioware is using the extra time to bring them back and add more features to the game which will make it better.

And those things could have been better if more time was put into DA2.

and if they did not extend the time, peopel would have accepted being a human.

On that case Skyrim should of been a failure too

Some features in Skyrim didn't end up as "awesome" as advertised either. Mainly Dragons and that Radiant AI thing. Of course you can blame that on player expectations but that doesn't change the fact that Beth talked big about these two.

Yea, but regardless of some the features it was still jam packed with stuff that it still worked

I doubt it,many would still have advocated for playable races in DA4 if DA:I did'nt have them.

Would it surprise you if I got bored of Skyrim and sold it back?I have never done that before with a game unless it was bad.

What they have shown so far looks good and I do believe they have the time to pull it off, so they aren't over ambitious! (hopefully :P).

Hopefully the story can also keep up, then this game will truly be a masterpiece :)

This...
Right now, if they released Inquisition in it's current state, it will still be better than DAII (In my opinion, of course).

There's no such thing as too much ambition in video games. Devs should have a passion for their projects, and want to make their vision as awesome as possible.

The main factor that constricts this is budget, but from what we've seen of DA:I, it seems to have received a sizable upgrade over DA2. The engine's pretty, the features innovative and, yes, ambitious.

Ambition is nice, but when it comes to selling us the game, they need to be honest about what it has.

Sadly Peter Molyneux has so many ideas yet can never put them into games.

Maybe they wanted races but only chose humans because the EA necktie might have forced them to rush it, or they had no idea if they would be able to extend it. Bioware should not be required to make a game the way the fans want it.

Not everyone, or even most. I remember lots of people declaring their intention to skip or wait for overwhelmingly positive reviews for DA:I when BioWare announced the human-only protagonist, and I remember scores of people declaring their intention to definitely buy or pre-order the game after previously being on the fence or boycotting.

Again, race is a deciding factor for many people.

Also, it's not required, but it's generally a good idea to lick the hand that feeds you.

Just keep your expectations low guys... I find that pessimism helps me like a game more. :P

But it is not a good idea to base an entire development on fanservice. *points to SW:toR*

You could say anything in the game is fanservice.

because the entire game is now just what fans cried and begged for.
