The gameplay trailer looks like a single player action RPG.

So...why do you play Dragon Age when there are tons of games that are hack and slash?suprhomre wrote...
More hack and slash please and less pretentious combat view and so on. It was boring in DAO, it had no action. DA2 combat system was so stiffed because of the strategy element but much more fun compared to DAO. I would prefer a simpler mechanic like ME, where you maybe use the combat tactic once and awhile not mandatory everytime. It's suppose to be fun not painstakingly fun. So, good work BioWare we who love action games love you for making it fun. Because DA2 was very fun to play.

By removing tactics and making DA:I a button masher?Frankly I play enough of those types of games already so DAO's combat while slow atleast felt different.slimgrin wrote...
I don't know if it's possible to get more 'hack and slashy' than DA2.

Except for the fact it lifted the combat system from every hotkey-based MMO ever instead of Bioware's previous work.

Again, DA2 is NOT twitch combat...people are REALLY using that term badly/wrongly.
What DA2 had was that there isn't a large delay between hitting a key and the character response.
What I think people are getting hung up is that many special abilities aren't instant-based (there's a delay between when say a person starts casting a spell and when the spell actually occurs) and in the time between this, the OTHER characters are free to move around/use other abilities.
Does dodging indivate twitch combat - not necessarly since you can code it so that a charactr has a defense value based on dexterity while armour SUBTRACTS any damage actually done....(which is exactly how it SHOULD work)
If the attack is too weak to breach the baseline defense value, the attack animation misses the character. If the attack is strong enough to breach the character's baseline defense rating but not the modified defense rating, character uses the dodge animation. If the attack is strong enough to breach the modified defense rating, armour subtracts damage and you then apply any damage to the character.

Well, the dragon age franchise is a single player action-RPG franchise.
Since when? As far as I know, DA:O was never marketed as an action game.
Indeed, since when? Despite the flashy animations, DA2 played almost identicle to DA:O also, it's very far away from the twitch mechanics we've seen so far.

1. When did that matter for people who played it on console. The only ones that made it an issue were the ones who played it on pc.In Exile wrote...

2.And the "Awsome button" was just an option to turn auto attak off. When turned on, it plays like a fast da:o on console.

IIRC there was a bug that was never fixed for the consoles that required for the player to mash away at buttons. On the PC, however, this was not the case.

Maybe because I am old and crochety, but in my opinion, DA2 played a crap ton differently on PC from DA:O.

TW is twitch, always has been. DA2 was trying to emulate the style of popular action games, and looked ridiculous for doing so. But DA:I looks to be better, slightly less exaggerated.

Okay? I'm not contesting anything here, you just asked what more hack & slash than DA2 would be. One answer is TW2. Another is Dark Souls. A third is Dragon's Dogma. A fourth is Skyrim.

Again, DA2 is NOT TWITCH.
Do people not know what twitch combat actually means? Skyrim is twitch, Dark souls is twitch, Witcher is twitch.
DA2 most certainly doesn't resemble those games in terms of "your ability to do damage is based on how quickly you hit a key".

Did you even play DA2? You missed the fact that everything is on auto attack? It was just faster. You gave your characters orders and they attacked on there own...Just like DA:O. How does making things fast makes it more twitch?slimgrin wrote...

In BG 1and 2 we can ajust the combat speed for it to be faster, is bg a twitch game because it's put at top speed?
