Mass Effect is a single player Third Person Shooter with squad-based combat, strong Roleplaying elements, and some RPG elements which vary in their importance depending on the installment.
Dark Souls is a third person hack and slash with strong RPG elements and minor Roleplaying elements.
TES: Skyrim is a first person/third person open world hack and slash with strong RPG elements and moderate role playing elements.
Dragon Age Origins is an RPG with strong Role Playing elements, as is DA:II, as much as the latter's marketing tries to pretend it's not an RPG.
Please get your genres right.
(RPG= game with mechanics which are descended from tabletop RPGs like D&D, Roleplaying = Somewhat ambiguous, but tends towards the ability to "Roleplay" the character you're playing as (I distinguish "Roleplay Games" from "RPGs or Roll Playing Games" to avoid the confusion that tends to arise around that term), Hack and slash= "Sword and spell" combat where you're directly controlling the sword swings, blocking, and whatnot. Shooter = Gunplay based combat where you're the one aiming and shooting. These genres tend to blend together sometimes, especially with games like mass effect where the gameplay is TPS based, but the narrative has extensive roleplaying, or games like KoA or Dark Souls which have hack and slash style combat which is nevertheless heavily dependent on correctly building your character.)
Now, I enjoyed the RPG gameplay of the first Dragon Age game, but the narrative and roleplaying, despite the former being staggeringly clichéd, was what I enjoyed most about it. I also happen to enjoy RPG Hack and Slash games, like the Souls series, the early Diablo games, and so on, which have twitch based sword and spell combat, but also emphasize the importance of proper character builds. If Dragon Age: Inquisition is becoming that kind of game, I'll enjoy it as long as the narrative and roleplaying are undiminished, though I'm somewhat worried BioWare won't really be able to marry the RPG-Hack and Slash style combat with a party based system.
