Why is there the assumption that the voice we heard is Vivienne's? I just watched the video and my first thought was :'Good. Miranda Raison will be voicing Cassandra again'...

More clips of the demo have leaked online and in one of em cass, viv and varric have a short conversation at the beginning.

In the dragon battle footage, I heard 3 different voices. The first was Varric's, the last was Cassandra's and the middle must be somebody else's. Since we didn't see anyone in that video other than the inquisitor, I'm not sure it was Vivienne.

EDIT: Just saw the link above.

Dunno if this is relevant to the topic but I no longer hate her outfit. It looks allot better than it did in the gameinformer pic. it still looks weird but weird looking mage weird not weird looking clown woman weird.

Maybe because it's easier to see though none of them had their Gameinformer armor. Cassandra had more armor and a shield as opposed to her two handed/tunic and chainmail from GI, Varric had something reminiscent of his DA2 gear vetdus his comic book outfit and Vivienne seemed to be missing her mask.

Plus it might be that it just looks better in motion.

I wasn't sure if it was a new outfit, slightly diff, or just shown with better graphics. But yeah it is different and It doesn't look like something a scary clown would wear.

I really hate clowns :(

I'm not 100 per cent certain, but Vivienne's voice actress sounds very similar to Belinda Cornish, who voiced Goldanna in Origins and Rana Thanoptis in ME2.

Another strange thing is how Orlesian her clothes look. You'd think that being from Ferelden she would be more interested in the fashions of her homeland, considering she's stuck in a tower anyway.

She looks Riviani but yeah posh English accent

Well, Isabela. Rivaini and posh English.

Also Duncan.

Duncan was half Rivaini in race, but Ferelden in culture/nationality. Same is probably true of Vivienne.

Because the party consists of 2 men and 2 women, and you hear voices which are clearly Varric and Cass, and then a male voice for the inquisitor, so by default the English voice belongs to her.

We have no idea where she is from atm. people have pointed out that people from Tervinter, Rivian and The free Marches all have english accents.

She was described as Orleasian so that is what she is, hopefully there will be some awesome backstory that exsplains why she ain't french.

Mikey, if a person is described as Orlesian it kind of implies she's from Orlais. I would consider myself Canadian even though I live in England and have an English accent.

However she could indeed be from somewhere else. I just hope that Bioware addresses this issue and doesn't just ignore it.

Sounds like the Inquisitor is yet another Fereldan. :/

Would have preffered the guy to have been from Nevarra and going by Cassandra that accent is a lot more tolerable than the ridiculous Orlesian accent, which is a comical fail.

Leliana's accent was actually fairly well received if I recall correctly.

Well yeah that's what I said.  All we know is that she is orleasian but has an english accent. There is no reason to assume she has anything to do with ferelden though. I am sure there is a reason why she has an english accent though and if their ain't the devs will invent one.

I don't think where someone was born or raised has anything to do with their rank/role in the Circle. In Dragon Age: The Calling, the First Enchancter of the Fereldan Circle of Magi was Remille, an Orlesian. I think the only requirement for the job is being respected by the Knight-Commander and the Mages of any given Circle. You don't have to be born somewhere in order to earn the respect of the people living there.

hers wasn't OTT I didn't think Cassandra's was bad either though but some people did and they seem to have at least toned it down.

Plus she isn't orleasian either she's Nevarran.

True.

The only reason I'm weary is because of all the me3 plot holes that went unanswered even after release.

No they for HAVE to be born there, but to gain the respect of everyone in the circle they would have been at that circle for a great deal of time prior to when they were appointed.

Plus she's described as Orlesian, and has a distinct Orlesian name. If she was born in Rivain or something, would they really call her 'Vivienne'?

Did they ever describe her as Orleasian or is that just something people assumed because she was inline to be first enchanter in Orlais?

From the video at the top of the page it looks like the main character will be mute.

I see it as you have to cast 8 voice actors at least to cover all the races annonced so far.

I wouldn't be surprised if they scrapped the "Orleasians speak french" paradigm altogether. Many people consider French to be a "funny" accent. The danger with such an accent is that you could unintentionally drift into comedy or parody. This danger is even higher when parts of the game take place in Orlais. So we might end up seeing a game, where every Orleasian speaks with an English accent, even if it's contrary to what was established before.

I don't think it's a problem lore-wise either. In the end no-one in Thedas "actually" speaks english. They all speak their fantasy languages. It's just that they are conveniently translated into english, so that the player can understand them.

So how does Leliana speak if they do that?

Just because she is first enchanter in Orlais, doesn`t mean she is born and raised there. Sounds like she is from the same place as Isabela. That would explain her bossom as well.

Good point's, I can imagine it being toned down at least so maybe Vivienne just comes from a part of orlais nearer to ferelden where they don't sound french at all.

Riordan was senior warder of Jader, which is right on the border, and Fereldan born, and he still sounded fully french.
