 I decided to download a mod that added more forms to the shapeshifter specializations, 
dragonage.nexusmods.com/mods/91/ 

after obtaining the specialization and change into my first form i noticed the stat mods and hand been wondering if magic was effecting the mods, so i reloaded the game again and leveled up str this time and transformed and looked at the stat mods, and to my surprise they were lower than when i had leveled purely magic. So it seems the higher my magic the greater the effect on the stat mods each form grants. 

What im curious about is, is whether its my mod thats doing this or did they patch the game so that Shapeshifting is more influenced by your magic/spell power or not.

If your strength is higher than some fraction of your spellpower, then it uses your strength. Otherwise that fraction of spellpower. Same for dex and constitution.
