A speaking protagonist is much more preferable than a mute one honestly, that kind of killed DA:O for me, I prefered Hawke having a voice in 2.

if you have a little imagination ..

Most people really don't.

So players who prefer a voiced protagonist over a silent one have no imagination? Talk about Ad Hominems. The use of imagination (or lack there-of) has nothing to do with the preference over a voiced or non-voiced PC. I didn't find the silent dialogue options very imaginitive and it still restricted my character. The result of the NPC's reactions almost never fit my interpretations of the silent options. There's not much imagination going on if I can't control how the NPCs should react to my assumed dialogue options.

One of BW's strong points has got to be the voice overs. They are great quality. As long as they keep using great actors/actresses and scripts, yes please.

To me it adds to the connection with the character and a silent protagonist is just weird for me now. BW do know how to tell a good story. If you take a game like GW2, then yes, they should've stuck with silent characters...my god the voice overs are awful lol.

But yeh it was a positive thing in DA2 for me and I would like to see (hear) it again in DA:Inq

There are pros and cons to a voiced protagonist, as well as for a non-voiced protagonist.

I won't hastily judge DAI's particular VP approach until I've seen more of it.

I personally prefer non-voiced.

I like to "hear" my own voice when I see the dialogue.

Speaking protagonist reduces the possibility of dialogue branches. The more the less the voice options. I think the main character of the game is to be silent in the first part. What do you think?

I disagree with your point.

For example, while it appears the silent protagonist has more options it's not true.

1. be diplomatic/good.
2. be sarcastic
3. ask about a reward for the quest.
4. be greedy and demand more for your reward.
5. refuse the reward to the quest.
6. threaten the person.
7. kill the person.
8. question you can ask the person about the topic
9. repeat number 8 as many times as needed for more questions and count each time as a conversation option.

The voice protagonist will have the same options but it will be handled in a different fashion.

1. be diplomatic/good
2. be sarcastic.
3. ask about the reward in general, you then get the option to demand more or refuse the reward.
4. threaten the person and then choose to kill him after that if you desire to.
5. questions about the topic in the investigate tab.

The big thing is that the voiced protagonist gets almost the same amount of options but some of them are combined together as one option and you get to choose which one you want as a sub-option of the initial choice.

They also put all questions you have about the conversation topic in the investigate option on the left of the conversation bar.

The only thing that the silent protagonist gets more of is the more ways to say some options in a different way but the game itself will treat it as the one option.

Agreed, in fact I usually speak the line outloud.  But I'm a theater professor, so of course I would... ;)  I'd just prefer to hear "my" voice with "my" character than some paid actor.  But that's me...

I prefer unvoiced since Hale makes femShep unplayable for me but I can deal with voiced. It does however distance me from the character.

And there's always the chance that I'll loathe both VO's and toss the game. I can deal with bad VA for a side character but a main one? Nope.

So far Male Inq sounds acceptable it's not a OMG AMAZING voice but I can roll with it. Now to see fem Inq.

This isn't the 90s. Whinging about voice acting will not change things.

As another poster said it best - Deal with it.

Silent protagonists were great in KOTOR, KOTORII, and DA:O. Voiced protagonists were silly monty python men in DA2, and emotionless flesh calculators in ME1-3.

Bioware, please just give us the option at least to disable protagonist speech. It's really not much to ask.

Skyrim came out in the 90s?

Now sure I can see people saying BW isn't going back to silent but let's not pretend no games come out with silent protagonists. :?

I prefer voiced protagonists, but I wasn't a fan of femHawkes voice (although currently playing SWTOR imperial agent and its not grating - the condescending tone fits with the role in this instance). Loved both Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale's voice in ME. So yeah, prefer the voice protagonist.

I prefer voiced, but that's probably because I don't view my player character as an avatar of myself but as a completely different person whose role I'm playing. I can see why the people who want to literally just 1:1 transpose themselves into the game would not want another person's voice coming out of their mouth.

I liked voiced PC's, but I do think they could stand to work on the paraphrase system a little more. Maybe go back to the big bulky boxes of DA: O. It would feel a little less hand holdy than the Blue, Purple and Red system of 2.

Voice of course.

The non-voiced protagonist hurted DA:O a lot.

I hope they implement different voice options/sets, so we can choose the kind of voice we want for our PC. Like how they had in DAO, where you could choose from experienced, wise, mystical, etc.

I know this might seem like an expensive option (with all the spoken dialogue), but Bioware has blown my mind away with all their recent reveals - who knows, could happen. XD

KoA:R was in the 90's?
Fallout: New Vegas?
Portal 2?
Bioshock?
Half-Life 2?
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines?

I'm not strictly anti-voice, but I prefer characters that I create in RPGs to not be voiced, thank you.

I’ve probably said this before but since its come up again – I prefer Voiced for four reasons (please be aware this post contains minor spoilers for the Cousland Origin and DA2 Act2)

1. Many people will tell you that a Voiced Protagonist gives you less dialogue options but I don’t think that is really true. Because in modern RPGs a silent protagonist is always surrounded by voiced characters, you could have 100 options to choose from but you’ll probably get the same or similar response from the voiced NPC/Companion.

In DA:O you could pick from a number of dialogue options but – the person you were speaking too would probably say the same thing no matter what you said because there is an important plot point they have to point out.
In Skyrim NPCs and Follows spouted the same four lines of dialogue every time you spoke to them so having a Voiced Protagonist  wouldn’t have effect the amount of dialogue that much.

So having a Voiced Protagonist doesn’t really reduce the dialogue.

2. Conversation between two Voiced characters flows more naturally for me. This is a personal opinion I know but basically when the PC is silent I find it weird speaking to voiced characters, it’s like their talking at me not too me.

3. Emotional connection. I find it much easier to have an emotional connection to a Voiced PC then a silent one. When something emotional happens to the Warden, it was more difficult for me to care because basically they were a mute puppet. My Cousland Warden left their parents to be killed and not only need I not care but they didn’t seem to either, but when Leandra  died , not only was Hawke upset but I was so shocked I had to pause and make myself a cup of team. Both the Couslands and Leandra had about the same amount of onscreen time in the game but I cared more about Leandra because Hawke cared and was not just mute.

4. The Epic Speech. Many games have an epic speech but BioWare are particularly fond of them. Shepard and Hawke got to make their epic speech before the end battle but my Warden just had to stand there as Alistair(who had pretty much done nothing except kill who I told him to kill and moan until then) or Anora ( who had done even less then that) gets to deliver the speech to the gathered army.

I mean – I’d done all the work and someone else gets to spur the Army into action.

So I’m glad that the Inquisitor is going to be voiced and I can’t wait to see/hear  who is going to voice femquisitor.

Edit: Formating

I don't see my chr as a avatar either.I don't think the problem is the voice as it is the wheel. What actually is said needs to be more intune with the actually selection.I know I have no urge to hunt dragons.I fired one once. Not quite the same thing.
