I can see the witcher bit in the cave combat.
Both with the circle, which I'm not fond of. But I see they also had it in the DAO console version, and I can see it being quite nice on consoles, but I'm not thrilled for it on PCs, unless I also have an alternate pause button.
The combat movements also look a bit witchery, with their rolling and the way they swing their swords.
I also see the compass from Skyrim makes a cameo.

I thought the keep combat looked better, but then we had the tactical camera and they showed more group control. And the glyphs were very pretty.

Given that CDPR got an actual swordmaster to motion cap the animations for TW2 (and presumably again for TW3) this isn't really a bad thing. It's more natural than DA2's spastic swingfests or DAO's "is this a two handed sword or a baseball bat" animations.

The roll is (at least for now) a talent, as it was shown during the gameplay with the tactical view. That means it's not that different from the evade/roll talents the rogue possessed in DA2.

It ticks me off when people say "you're the only one who feels that way".
Shows the ignorance of the person saying it.
I haven't seen the footage.
I would caution the OP that Bioware is highlighting the combat right now, that the game is still in its pre alpha stage and Bioware has another year to work on it.
So his concerns may be premature.

Still too early to tell.

But it seems to me that the tone of the game isn't quite what I was hoping for. I like a good story in the games I play, but I somehow feel that the story they are going with is directed to one audience, while the gameplay is directed to another. And I am not sure that I am going to like either.

The story is targeted at the women with cats segment, and the gameplay is for the COD crowd. However they did say there would be tactical gameplay and the tactical overview would return - but they didn't show it so I don't know what to think.

They shown the tactical view, here:

I had not seen that before. Gameplay looks pretty good. That lightens my mood.

Not to be 'That Guy' OP, but I'm completely disagreeing with you. Its looking much better than I dared hope. I'm pretty excited for this title now.

At this point they should release a full 1080P video at 60 FPS of the 20 minutes demo shown at PAX . Those bad vid cam aren't doing them any favor.

This is pre ALPHA. WHY are people complaining when the game is more than a year away!?

BSN..

I am slowly but surely coming to the conclusion that peeps on the BSN simply love being miserable and pulling other people into mysery along with them.

I can't explain most topics and posts here any other way.

I agree with you. What a lot of people claim to be a critic I see cynicism.

While I agree it's too early to make threads like this one. I've also seen posts saying stuff like by all accounts the game looks like its going to be outstanding, or the game looks awesome.

To me it's just as ridiculous to say this type of thing at this stage of the game

But at the end of the day, it you have reservations just don't pro-order it or buy it day one. The game isn't going anywhere, wait until you're sold on it and buy it, or if you're not sold don't.

Given how fickle the fandom is I'm sure you're not the only person who feels that they aren't getting what they hoped thus far from everything the Dev Team has shown.

I, however, think it's a vast improvement over both Origins and Dragon Age 2 from what I've seen and read to this point; on top of that we've got another year of development so it can only get more robust, with any kinks ironed out.

I will admit to having some concern regarding the Keeps and the "agents/resources" thing. It smacks a great deal of Mass Effect 3's 'EMS' and, if so, there's obviously room for it to drag down the game and for it to be turned into a MP/Peripheral gimmick by EA as was done with the aforementioned title.

I was fine with everything BUT The Red Templar thing which sounds extremely awful. The Writers literally had to take the most poorly written plot point of DA2: Red lyrium making people crazy and reintroduce it. They are taking it because?....Reasons? And they are all evil mustache twirlers like Bioware made Cerberus in ME3 which was the worst writing I've encountered in a video game in quite some time

We know that red lyrium would've been in the game for a while now.
As long as not all the templars will be reduced to red templars, I'm fine with it.

I guess I could come to accept it if it was only a small splinter group or something......Still dehumanising a villain by some sort of magical or unseen force always sucks.. Indoctronation, Red Lyrium.. Tis' not quality writing

eh there's still a year to go and presumably they dont want to release too much plot and story related stuff when its still so far from the release date

also the inquisitor himself is boring as tar but he's also just the default since the general idea is to customize them (if you mean the voice and the line, though, that i agree on, that was really boring but again maybe they just dont wanna spoil too much of the good stuff so far from the game's release?)

that being said from what i've seen at least it looks like a better game functionally. combat, graphics, interface all look like a vast improvement over da:o's throwback (i get it, it was an old school aesthetic but it was ugly and tedious) or da2's....whatever

lets just hope they finish the game this time

Templars are addicted to lyrium. We've known this since the first game. We've also known that the Chantry, being the only legal source of lyrium, uses it to control the Templars.

The Templars have now split from the Chantry, and are seeking out alternative sources to feed their addiction and retain their power.

I can't comment on the gameplay and character design, cause frankly those are both subjective and lacking info. I wouldn't consider it witcher combat unless it used an eerily similar control scheme and spell/item combat pause menu implementation. Just being at a moderate paced speed without being over the top doesn't make it witcher.

As for the story, they said they deliberately picked a segment of the game without spoilers in order to not givr too much away. I don't see how, knowing that, you could say the entire game will be the same.

You explaining it doesn't make it seem any less terrible.. In fact it makes it seem more terrible because its making me think these Templar's are in the majority.. Meaning my fear of Bioware turning the Templar's into ME3 Cerberus have been realised.

To be clear, Maria is speculating about templars and red lyrium. We don't even know why the red templars started ingesting red lyrium.
