Actually, yes. There really is nothing in the ME 'verse to say that organics are any more alive than synthetics (or vice versa).

Can of worms. Sorry, but this is actually a debate that has been raged over for centuries.
So let me just quote this site.
This is not a perfect definition since it doesn't cover synthetics, but it will do.

If it's just Mass Effect, that just means they're stupid and very obviously letting their dislike or Synthetics influence their judgement on whether they're alive or not. You ever notice you never see people admitting Synthetics are alive but also disliking them?
And if they think Synthetics are not alive in all fiction or real life, period, that makes we wonder what they're doing spending time with science fiction in the first place.

People who don't and have never felt pain are not alive, then?

I didn't say anything about alive or not. I just think it's easier to kill things that aren't screaming.

It's only a matter of time until Humans manage to create Artifical Intelligences to do jobs that they dont' want to do or for the sheer convinece of them being able to process things far faster then human brains will ever be capable of and it's rather obvious when it comes to some peoples attitudes how that will inevitably play out for us.David7204 wrote...
When I see people declare that Synthetics are not alive, I always have to wonder whether they mean just Synthetics in Mass Effect, or Synthetics in all fiction and sooner or later, real life.

If I understand this correctly they`re not supposed to have any emotions at all. Plus pain is evolutions tool to let you avoid harmful situations to your body. Why should software, created outside the evolutionary process have it.

If I may, I find Ashley-->Tali a rather strange shift. I can understand the other two: Ash-->Jack... you like the "wild" ones; Ash-->Miri... you like the no-nonsense, professional type. Ash-->Tali baffles me a bit; they could hardly be more different.
In reading your post, it sounds to me like your heart is pointing you back to Ash over Tali, if ever-so-slightly. So I say, go back to Ash; you'll be happier with it that way. Now, if this were a real life matter, I'd be singing a very different tune. It isn't, though. It's fantasy, and you can have it your way here. It happens to work out okay for Tali in the end, if you're not already aware.

The BSG bots did it because they actually wanted to be part of the evolutionary process (and "God's plan" if you will). Dean Stockwell's character was the only Cylon who hated the idea and tried to start his own faction.
Can't say much for this setting. I don't know what the AI actually want. They keep changing their views.

You basically have to pull rank on her to not get romanced. That or make fun of her grandpa after Udina locks down the Normandy.

But we have data that Creator Tali's Romance is very rich in knowledge and Intel and it has a lot of 'soul' something this unit would like to have.

How is Miranda fake? How is Tali a fling? Why does Jack need no man?
Why is Ashley the one? Unless you mean 'the one I should have left on Virmire' as my Shepard believes.

Yeah I like when people make statements like this one pointed out in this asssumed joke. Because if you aren't attracted to something, you must hate it. If you aren't attracted to a different race, you're racist, and it you aren't attracted to a different sex, you're homophobic. That's how the world works apparently.
