Do we even know weather or not the spell book is accessible to our characters? it may just be something those enchanters use.

Were they Tervinter enchanters?

Of course not, but this is the BSN where everything seen must be applied to the Inquisitor and you must say how much you hate/love the thing and how it will cause you to pre-order or cancel said pre-order. xD

The enemies were part of a cult, but they did give a Tevinter vibe to me.

I like animations connected with that book and hope at least one mage on our side will be able to have/use one

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with a specialization, vivianne didn't use it soooo. Or it could be a usable item, but you just use the book to do more damage maybe.

not saying i would be against the idea allthough I would never give up my staff for a freaking book :P

But yeah it could easily just be something that particular enimy npc uses.

It's probably one of Varric's new releases.

Doesn't really matter to me whether its the PC or an enemy, the book following the mage around looked kind or stupid to me. It was one part where it looked like he had cast the spell and was snapping the book back closed. But then it just opened back up and started hovering next to him as he moved, and that was when they lost me.

I think the book makes sense. There have been lots of references to mages in Thedas requiring spell books, and traditionally they've been required to study to learn or perfect their spells (i.e D&D). Wether or not it should float next to you while you cast I guess is subjective but personally, were I a mage, I'd think of it as a kind of prestige. I can comprehend this complex spell on the fly while levitating my spellbook and now you're dead.

When you run out of mana you take the book and throw it at your enemies telling them it has porn while you make a run for it.

Can we have the option to use the book to splat any giant spiders we run across? I might play a mage for that.

I loved the book. I'm excited to see a less "I'm actually a Jedi" movement in my magic working, but also a neat way of tackling some tropes of mages/magic wielders.

The dude with the book is an enemy. Look:

I feel neither PC or companions can equip something like that. The true reason for exixting is, most likely, to reduce the speed of an enemy mage, so your mages will be more special and agile.

I guess the OP likes his or her books on tape. B)

Also I don't get why all the hate for a fancy/cool casting animation? I mean stronger spells take longer to channel, makes sense, games have been doing it since forever. It's just something different to look at instead of the mage "tickling" the air.

It's awesome, not silly. This is why we can't have nice things.

I guess people here would be exited at a though of a jedi using force powers through a floating holocron as well.

Is there something I missed in the terms and conditions on BSN that legally binds people to an agreement never to post images or links to the topic of discussion in the OP? In this case someone asked for it towards the end of the first page, but usually if we missed it we have to go digging through pages of discussion in the twitter or updates thread just to find a single picture or video link. [/rant]

As for the actual spellbook... I could do without it, which I'm guessing is an option since we've seen plenty of casters without them. I think the book looked good at first but it ended up too large and unwieldy towards the end, and just took up too much camera-space.

It looks Saturday morning cartoon-ish. Another example (IMO) how this game seems so foreign to Dragon Age.

Give me a good staff, some magical armour and a cutie by my side and I will change the world.

Hell yeah floating spellbook, It just adds to the enemy mage variety. As long as they don't spam those guys to wear out the novelty I love it.

Hey now... Don't go blaming Bioware for poor mages that didn't pay attention at school.

And while the mage looked at the book and casted the spell everybody stood around watching<_<

And what about FF? The meteor shower didn´t seem to have. I hope they don´t repeat DAII with its combat ajusted to no FF.

I must confess. The floating book do indeed look ridiculously stupid.

Everytime I see something good (like the return of the tactical camera) it is immediately followed by something bad.

Wait, we can levitate and animate inanimate objects now? I am going straight to my PC house and the first thing I'm doing is using my new spellbook to animate my rocking chair and bongo drums while shaking my butt to Harry Belafonte's Jump in the Line.

"Inquisitor, is this fight going to be 'open book'? Because I had to look after my sick brother last night and couldn't study."

It looks pretty silly. I also hate the idea of a magic spell as some arcane phrase that needs to be vocalized (always roll my eyes at "silence" spells for that reason). Magic should be something that is trained on a neurological level, like an athlete learning a technique, so that it becomes as automatic as the casters will to use it. Spell books are just a little too high fantasy.

But even in high fantasy, who's going to be consulting a book in the middle of a fight?

This is why I don't play mages, I guess. The robes and staves were trope-y enough.

A spell book is needed so the Inquisitor doesn't do this.
