Why are you so determine to make the Qunari to be one who follows the Qun instead of a tal-vashoth?Chari wrote...

Even so, the only Qunari that choose their own names are Tal Vashoth.Chari wrote...

Take Sten for example. Despite him now being Arishok, Alistair will always call him Sten because that's who he was when introduced, and while Sten does make the clarification, he also DOESN'T seem to give a **** after the initial re-introduction when Alistair continues to call him Sten. Because to Alistair, who is not Qunari, he will ALWAYS be Sten. Having spent time outside of Qun lands and spending time with folks who aren't Qunari, he gets this. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he brought back with him this information. Making the Qun less scary to non-Qunari by advising that agents (be they of the Barasaad or otherwise) use two names.

So are the surnames the name of the actual character like Cousland/Aeducan/Hawke etc? I wonder if they call us by that name or just call us Inquisitor.

They call you Inquisitor. Names can be chosen again, like in DA:O.

That why I use Kossith. Because it's the race and not the name given to those who follow the Qun. So for me it's make sense. Even though I know they really mean a Kossith when they say a Qunari in marketing .. That would confuse everyone else.
So when they say a Qunari mage has playable race.. They mean the Kossith. So a human that follow the Qun.

I thought Stenishock just considered Alistair not worth the effort of correcting a second time. That seems morè in character to me. Sure, they could be using an alias, but outsiders know so little of the Qun I'm not sure what benefit it would carry. The Qunari aren't in the habit of changing their practices to make the baas more comfortable.Heidenreich wrote...
They could also have taken a name since they are so far off from the Qun itself to be easily recognisable. I see no issue in the Inquisitor being Qunari (of the qun) and deciding to add a first name to his/her "title" to help friends/followers who AREN'T Qunari.

Yeah, you can hear in the gameplay trailer Cassandra or Vivienne (I can't remember which but I think it was Cass) refer to the PC as Inquisitor.

Yes, but if surnames are fixed they could be used occasionally instead. Not all the time, but adding some diversity. Surnames were just as fixed in DA:O though they saw little use outside the Origins.Heidenreich wrote...

I hope so, because it'll be weird in the romances if they're being referred to as "Inquisitor" all the time.

No when they say Qunari they mean Kosseth in the race sense. You can play a Big horned giant. But since they don't USE Kosseth in game, and the non-Qun races don't make the distinction between Big Horned Giant and Qunari, any Big Horned Giant is going to be known as Qunari. Even if they're Tal-Vashoth. Tal-Vashoth is a IN QUN distinction between those apart of the Qun and those who have left the Qun. Anyone outside of the Qun, or who aren't close enough TO Qunari lands, aren't going to know/understand that distinction.

Surnames are not fixed. They've said this, and shown it at Pax. The characters call you Inquisitor.

The first time the Qunari came to Thedas, they fought the united forces of Thedas to a standstill and made a truce because potential converts were dieing left and right and they didn't want that. Now, most of Thedas is still hostile towards the Qunari, meaning not as many converts as they'd like. A sound strategic move would be to try to make them less hostile if possible, as that would mean more people open to the idea of the Qun and, ultimately, more open to converting. It's hardly something the Qunari would do out of the goodness of their hearts, it's a self serving strategy that could potentially get them more willing converts in the long run. Don't show yourself to be a monster to the masses and they won't consider you such.

Sound strategically, sure, but the Qunari believe their way is the only true way. To change the practices of the Qun would be to compromise the Qun. Besides, its heavily implied that they're planning a massive invasion within the next decade or so (I think it'll be the backdrop for DA4). I don't think taking two names would change their image much.Destiny_1989 wrote...

In any event I doubt very much they'll be calling you by a surname when they're open to change. Why bother to record VO for a name that can be changed at the players whims. It'll probably be "love" or some other such thing that notes that they're refering to you with out naming you ;p
