While watching all the amazing videos that came out yesterday, it hit me that a journal that the player could write in could be a really cool way of leaving reminders for ourselves concerning thins like cave/dragon locations, as well as memoes to complete unfinished business. I know I could just use Notepad out of game, but an ingame UI would really add to the immersion and roleplaying potential IMO.

Thought this warranted one bump, if no one posts this time I'll leave it to die. :)

I'd rather the menu actually looked like a journal again. That's such a cool little touch that modern RPGs have all but abandoned. Now all the menus look sterile and sleek. The worst offender I think was Skyrim. Christ.

I quite liked the journal feeling of Origins as well, but I'll reserve judgement until I've seen the PC UI.

I would love this. Not only for remembering quest points/caves/etc but I would use it for my Inquisitor's POV of the games story.

If stumbling upon a cave entrance doesn't automatically add some sort of marker to the map, then I agree. We should definitely be able to make custom waypoints somehow. I'd also like to be able to set a destination anywhere on the map.

Yes if only so I can scribble out warnings for enemies I will most likely run away from.

"Come back w/more potions."

"Don't come here. EVER."

and such.

This was the other reason I wanted one. It adds so much to the roleplaying potential! :)

It would be difficult to do on the console versions, but for the PC, I could see it working really well.

Agreed, I rather have an actual journal that your character can pull out and read kind of like in the Uncharted games.

It's a nice little touch that would add to the immersion.

That's a great idea... And if it can be published on the Keep, even better.

Actually, publishing them on a website is a really good idea. The Keep Library?

at each base/keep/campsite there should be a desk or whatever that we interact with and it bringas up the journal for our autobiographies and then we could have a seperate notebook (on the pause screen) for in game notes like different locations and things like that

I was thinking more having it available at any time (after all I doubt the Inquisitor would leave something containing such valuable information where it could be stolen) but to be honest any implementation of it would be great in my book!

I have this thing on my computer called "Notepad". It allows you to enter, and store "text", which you input through a device that is like a board with lots of keys.

@Issa what I meant by at each base was that I doubt the Inquisitor will stop mid quest and write down the days events. That would make more sense during "downtime". Which is why I suggest a different notepad located on the pause screen for quick things

@Ziggeh console players dont have notepad

And that stops them using a computer? Or for that matter, some sort of ink holding impliment and sheets of pressed wood ?

I think his point was that you can always just pull out a pen and paper or type your personal impressions up. It's not really a necessary feature and something that can be worked around quite simply.

I don't really care for it, but if the developers can do it.. I don't see why not for those who do like it. I'm more interested in having an automatically updated Journal that details my objectives and history of the quest rather than vague descriptions or just nothing at all like in ME3. Of course I don't want the quest journal to read like a Codex, but somethng that I can check after a week of not playing the game and be able to recall what I was doing in multiple missions.

well some people like myself dont have a computer ( i am here from xbl) and using a pen/paper is no good because it could be accidently thrown away or lost.
