I figured I should try this game after all the praise it's gotten. Is this game like Dragon Age in that the console version is inferior in every way?

Well, the PC version came out later than the console version, so the devs had more time to fix up bugs and such. The PC version also comes with a free download of the Bring Down the Sky DLC, so that can't be overlooked.

I've heard that the PC version looks and plays much better than the Xbox version, but never having played the Xbox version myself, I can't be certain about that claim.

The xbox platinum hits version comes with Bring Down the Sky as well. At this point, I'm pretty sure it's a matter of which platform you prefer to play on.

I thought the PC UI was better(though really just aesthetically, doesn't really add anything new) and prefer KB+Mouse. I thought it looked better too, though it could have been dropping the filtering and motion blur that did that I suppose.
EDIT: acctually the quickslots too, 8 of them mapped to 1-8 are also nice can't remember what the 360 had.

The PC version is better (better controls, better graphics, cheats), but not much better

The PC version causes many bugs for some people, while very little for some others (like me)

Nah, being a shooter, as opposed to RTS, based RPG it controls pretty much the same on both systems. It really just comes down to your preference for a keyboard+mouse/controller.

DarthCaine pretty much outlines it. There are certainly some improvements, especially where loading times and framerate are concerned (both may be good on PC if you have a good system; it WILL chug on the XBox) but if you're not too picky about graphics and prefer a controller, the 360 version isn't a bad choice at all.

Remember, DAO was a PC game that was altered somewhat to be ported to consoles. ME suffers no such problem, as it was a console game first and foremost.

I do think they did a better job of accommodating the PC with ME than they did accommodating the consoles with DAO, but that's largely a function of the different platforms. PCs are both more powerful and more flexible, so design is less constrained by hardware.

Having 8 quickslots is definitely an advantage. You can basically play through the game without bringing up the tactical menu and fight entirely in real-time. The PC version is also more tweakable. Want to pack 20 grenades instead of 5? Want to carry more than 150 items? Want to drive the Mako on the Citadel? Want to play through the game as Garrus or Liara? They are all possible with the PC version. The "play as party member" tweak is impressive as hell: Imageshack

lets see COD4, COD4 MW2, borderlands, L4D 1 and 2, Far cry 2, fallout 3, bioshock, and red faction gorrila are not nerfed at all .  there are more just don't feel like typing out the whole 360 game list. just because a game is released on a console doesn't mean they have to nerf it alot of times they only change from cotroller to keyboard/ mouse.

1080p yes 360 and ps3 are 1080p wii is 480p and since the game is built around a standard set of parts most are at 60 fps there are minor graphic changes but they are minor.

No, if you watch your TV's resolution when it boots up a game, I have not seen a single game run in 1080p. My TV always loads them in 1280x720 aka 720p, where as PC has better graphics and is displayed in full 1080p.

2nd, the UI is better for some stuff, like decrypting. It is much more logical of a "decryption" method than just pushing buttons to decrypt.

Edit:

That is wrong for some of those games. Particularlly the L4Ds. You cant get custom content on the 360 like you can on the PC, nor can you select a server you want to play on. Completely nerfed on the console. As far as those others go, they are very similar on console/PC. Except PC's tend to run them a bit better in better quality.

yes there are 1080p games out there some of those might not be them but there are tons of them
let me go grab a few

Uncharted 2 among thieves is 1080p
Fallout 3 is 1080p
overlord 1 and 2 are 1080p
grand thieft auto 4 is 1080p
halo 3 and ODST is 1080p
too human is 1080p
fable 2 is 1080p
Civ Revolution is 1080p
call of duty world at war 1080p
Force unleashed is 1080p
MOH airborne is 1080p
Oblivion is 1080p
Borderlands is 1080p
Infinite Undiscovery is 1080p
Bioshock is 1080p
MASS EFFECT is 1080p

you know you have to turn 1080p on by default all 360 are set to 720p when using HDMI because that the standard default All HDTVs can do.
and DUH there is no custom content that isn't made by the dev since Microsoft and sony want there money for putting on there sites. that isn't a nerf thats just marketing and contracts.

Me smells flamewar about to hit the fan...

Anyhow, it probably comes down to preference. I've not played the PC verision, so I shouldn't give a final judgement, but I don think there's any content difference between them per say. The PC verision has some tweaks as it was made after the 360 verision.

It comes down to which system you prefer, how picky you are about graphics and framerate and how good your rig is methinks.

Mass Effect 2 is listed as 720P on the 360 and that it depends on the video card as to what the output is on PC... so yeah, I'd say PC has a bit of an edge there. Unfortunately I will be getting it on the 360 as I don't have a decent games PC.

This is not exactly on topic, but can't you use a keyboard/mouse set up on your xbox? I've seen a few videos of people playing xbox games with a keyboard...

@ Mercurybath - Xbox 360 has standard USB ports, so you can add a keyboard, though I don't know of any games that use a keyboard interface. it's used for messanging and naming characters, typing in codes for DLC, that sort of thing.

Absolutely, mine does and it cost me around 300 to build from scratch. Also, everyone seems to forget this calculation for Console gaming:  throw in the cost of that HD TV and soundsystem into the mix. They suddenly become very comparable in total price.

But what is the point in playing in 1080p if your LCD display can't show that resolution?  My LCD's are 1280x1024, so unless you have some really expensive displays...
Using that as a price advantage doesn't really work.  Same for the price of a sound system.

I am 360 user, because I am a Linux user with a dual-head computer.  Both cause problems that combine when playing games through emulation/compatibility layers, so I just stick with a console.
