Well, it's the best explanation I've seen. Scratch that, the only explanation I've seen.

Maybe because it's not a thing that requires explaining, no matter how much people have decided it is.

HOW DARE PEOPLE ASK FOR CHARACTER CONSISTENCY

Just because Anders didn't mention how much he loved dudes in Awakening doesn't mean he was only into girls.

DA2 was fine.

It seems more reasonable than having six of the nine companions be romance options, certainly.

Though to be honest, even with six, I'm not sure I would favor gender checks unless there was going to be extensive reactivity surrounding gender and sexuality.

As long as I can romance one of the hottest characters in the game unlike ME3 (yes I'm talking about Traynor) I am fine with it. But please don't make it like DA2. Anders and Fenris were trying to bang my male Hawke everytime I talked to them.

It's posts like this that make me laugh evily to myself and make me reconsider this whole make everyone bi thing.

Because watching these guys suffer over Traynor is strangely satisfying.

Two years ago I used to care enough to get involved in this type of discussion.

My stance today is "f*** dis s***!"

Where is the inconsistancy? Are you really telling me if someone says they want a pretty girl, they must only like woman? Because sorry steel, thinking that way is just plain stupid.

People will complain about this no matter what Bioware does. 2 straight/2 bi/2 gay with gay romances having equal content? Waste of resources! Same spread with gay romances not being equal? Gay romances deserve to be equal! 2 straight/2 bi? My lesbian female qunari mage didn't like the only option! All playersexual? Unrealistic and breaks my immersion!

The only way to know a character's orientation *for sure* is to either have that character explicitly tell you their orientation, or the creator of that character has to explicitly tell you the orientation. Otherwise, it is just an assumption that straight is the default.

Anyway, I prefer DA2's approach, but will be okay with an equal number of sexualities per gender.

If people are going to insist on strictly defining characters they didn't create based on no information whatsoever, they should at least remain open to the possibility that their assumptions are wrong.

You thought Anders was straight? Good for you. You were wrong. Get over it.

Furthermore, people with no concept of what bisexuality means don't get to complain about "consistency".

Lol this makes me think... What if Morrigan judt found female Warden ugly but is bi? Or if Alistair thinks that the male Warden is unattractive but is bi? Hehe, makes you think.

I wasn't aware expressing an interest in "pretty girls" is secretly code.

I would be fine with either the DA 2 approach or the ME 3 approach. Both offered multiple LI options for both genders in same and opposite sex romances. I don't care at all which approach they take as long as there is a choice available. I'm 100% sure that it will be an equitable approach. The Bioware track record has greatly improved in the past few years for same sex (particularly male-male) options and I have total faith that it will continue.

No they didn't. Anders hits on the PC once, and if you tell him not interested, he never brings it up again. Fenris will ONLY flirt with the PC if you started it first. Why do people keep bringing up this bull**** homophobic lie every time?

On a serious note, it'd be nice if they dispensed with the notion of romance as a game feature and wish fulfillment geared to certain niches (virginal girl next door, crazy off the wall let's have it on right here). Essentially, only have one or possibly two romance-able characters that are tightly woven into the game's narrative and themes.

In terms of BioWare games, I would say Bastila and Alistair come the closest in fitting the bill as romance-able characters. I wouldn't bat an eyelash if they were exclusively homosexual, if anything, I would laud BioWare for it's genuine courage in this matter rather than taking the easy way out and gaining plaudits for essentially saving on resources.

I would just like romances to amount to more than wish fulfillment fantasies disguised as good writing for people with an insatiable need for emotional fanservice where the characters are little more than a "personality" slapped onto a sign post for "issues".

Apparently some guys freak out when Fenris calls their Hawke a "capable man."

DAO, please. Just like other things, you shouldn't always get what you want when it comes to romance options. If it makes sense for the character (Zevran, Leliana) that's fine, but there should be some cases when the option isn't available (Alistair, Sebastian). And for Christ's sake, keep some internal consistency - if a character is shown to be obviously inclined one way, don't break them over your knee and mangle the character just to fill the damn quota.

In fact, let's just forget DA2's romances existed as a whole.

This. That's why I always laugh at these kind of posts, when a char is ambiguous is automatically straight.

Oh the horror! I bet these dudes see nothing wrong with flirting with women without knowing whether or not they'd be interested, and I'm sure they're fine with women flirting with them. But not teh gay, oh no. It might rub off on them.

Playersexual is probably the best option. Don't give them defined sexualities, your sexuality doesn't define who you are anyways. If your inquisitor is gay, the person who you are going after will also be gay in that playthrough. In another playthrough the same character could be straight if you picked a girl.

I really don't see why people make this option a big deal. It just means none of the LI have a canon sexuality, that hardly seems like a big deal.

I have a preference but i will go with whatever bioware deems fit to put in the game an i wouldnt for one minute put my preference in front of other ppl's enjoyment of the game since at the end of the day it is such a very small part of my game and playthroughs as a whole
