I wasn't talking about her religious views anyway. Just how she grew to dislike her clan and, if you take the rivalry path, dalish in general.

Those are the views I care about.

I can't remember much about KoTOR 2 at all, so I don't know what your referring to. I was merely giving you suggestions as to why your Dalish PC may not hold racist views. The idea of one who has had positive experiences with humans in the past is a good example of how you could play one who doesn't hold some of the Dalish's views. My Dalish Elf in Origins got along with humans just fine, and held relatively lax views even in her Origin segment.

KoTOR 2 basically starts with your background being vague, but kind of fills in the blanks on the fly (you still have lots of input) in a way that is a little unpredictable and breaks character concepts.

I don't think the issue is getting along with humans. I just dislike the Dalish views on elven supremacy quite a lot, and would find it very difficult to headcanon my way around them. Partly because I'd have a hard time seeing someone who Bioware would likely put into the role of a First/Keeper being, y'know, atheistic toward their gods and antagonistic toward their views of the world.

It doesn't really bother me. I would rather be a city elf, but we get to define our character's so It won't be like we are forced to be anti-human or anything. I also don't think I've ever seen a customisable protagonist have the option of having a welsh voice before. It's an interesting prospect.

I find it very hard to create a character that grows up in a racist society and entirely disavows their racist views. I don't want to create an elven supremacist, but that's what the Dalish are.

except, you know, groups of people are generally not monoliths and can have individuals with different views within whatever their larger scale culture is

Incorrect, I said that you can play as a dalish mage. There's a big difference.

I must admit I'm very partial to city elves (you don't grow up poor and Jewish and not identify with the city elves' plight), so I'm hoping that even if we aren't directly stated to be city elves, it'll be left vague enough that I can imagine it for myself. (I wouldn't mind having some Dalish connection though, like a Dalish parent or something.)

I'm actually happy for a dalish mage considering you had to be a circle mage no matter what in DAO if you choose mage.

Well I wouldnt care due to the fact that I want a Dalish Elf PC more than anything. Especially being a Keeper's First.

Yay.

I really didn't want to play a dalish elf. :D

A Dalish mage could be interesting, but honestly I have my doubts its possible given that backgrounds are off the table right now and until recently I was under the impression an Andrastian upbringing would be enforced for all races.

Probably a city elf since they don't have to hire additional voice actors.

I doubt we'd get confirmation this early in the game, but if we want to be elven, will we be forced into being a dalish elf? Although I know this isn't the case for most, it would significantly dampen my enthusiasm for playing an elf if I'm forced to be a dalish elf.

See, this is why Bioware just shouldn't bother giving people what they want.

"Let us play as an elf, let us play as an elf!"
"OK, you can play as an elf."
"It's not the right kind of elf!!!"

Dear me.

It depends on whether different races will be receiving different VO's. If they are then we will almost certainly be a Dalish elf no matter our class, to match the voice.

Get the actor who voiced Drippy Lord-High Lord of the Fairies.

I hope Inquisition continues Dragon Age's proud tradition of mindlessly slaughtering Dalish clans.

I'd have no problem with the elven mage only being Dalish.

They would already have the circle mage from the human origin. Making the elf the same would be a bit redundant.

Explaining a tatooless Dalish will be the trick.

We've yet to have a BioWare game where people noticed if you had tattoos or not.

I think Fable is the only RPG where it's acknowledged.

Casteless...kinda.

I just hope I don't get warnings about "breaking rp experiance" or something when I play an Elf as I hate tattoos.

I played a dalish elf without tattoo's in DAO, nothing happened and nobody cared.

The backgrounds are still "under investigation" as they were fond of saying.

Dalish for Mage, City for warrior/rogue would suit me. Since we didn't get to play dalish mage before.

As long as we have the option, I'm always happy.

As for the tattoos, vallaslin is a ceremonial right of passage in Dalish culture. However, they're pretty flexible about when you get it because they know children mature at different times. If you don't want the vallaslin, you can pretend you left the Dalish before you were considered ready to get it.
