Geth because it would be a very unique perspective and partly because of everyones reaction to Geth in general. Even if they gained a lot of acceptance from helping out in the war.

Volus would also be quite different... That tiny short guy that walks up to a guard to talk to him and the guard doesn't see him at first.

Human, because it's kind of what you are used to and would give you a comparison to the Geth and Volus experience.

Maybe whatever character you pick just happens to walk by a place where something sensitive happens. Then the council gives you the option to work for them on this secret project and sign a non disclosure agreement, they just happen to think you got some kind of skillset that might be useful.

Either work for us or we will have to lock you up somewhere very far away from society where you can't tell anyone, possibly in a special jail several kilometers below the surface of a moon.
We can't let anyone know what's going on!

Maintenance engineer that accidentaly happens to stumble on something sensitive and gets caught.

Well when it comes down to the three most wanted it would be Asari, Drell, and Turian. Krogran would be cool as well though, as would playing a Salarian. Volus would just be too funny though.

"*breathes in* I do not sound *breathes out* like *breathes in* Darth Vader *breathes out*"

Sadly I have to admit, that the problem with Quarians, Krogan and Drell, three of the most popular races, is that all of them can potentially be severly decimated or even nearly extinct depending on your choices in ME3.

Heck, even humans can be drastically reduced in number with the wrong ending in ME3(low ems destroy/control kills all life in the Sol system).

I don't see how that is a problem, because I think ME4 will be the last Mass Effect game and Bioware ruined the chances of a sequel with their ending. It's gonna be a prequel because it's easier for Bioware to do that.

Human, Turian, Quarian, and Salarian

I hope the Yahg have a role in the story as well.

Quarian, Turian, Batarian

I'd like to see the Raloi and Yahg and assume humans are sticking around.

I'm fine with another human protagonist.

But assuming for a moment that the next game would also feature 3 playable alien races in addition to the human background, I think the obvious choices would be Turian, Asari, and Salarian.

Batarian Pirate, Batarian Slaver, Batarian SIU agent.

That counts, right?

Batarian systems were hit hardest and they're still in teh game, so you pathetic humans and the rest of your council races have no excuses.

From a backstory, well... Quarian could be fun, you can get to know more about the flotilla, and such.
Turian would be wicked, being a special operative or some crazy stuff like that? heck i'm game!
Drell would also be cool, with the "this is not my real homeworld" deal

I suspect that even they would be fun to play the most cliched of the races to start with would be Krogan and Asari. But, then again, if i had the oportunity i would play 'em also!

Easy:

Asari (i just love biotics - but sexy biotics top that :)

Krogan (Battlemaster if you please (as i said, i love biotics!))

And...

Turians (after Garrus they should be a given IMHO)

greetings LAX
ps: I still would love Quarians, too :)

Vorcha

Dialogue wheel alone would be worth it lol

Would they get Mark Meer to put on a female voice and do lady Vorcha as well?

I'd like to play as a Battlemaster/Warlord combo krogan (preferably female), biotic charge followed by biotic/electric hammer

Haven't BW already said that the fourth game won't be a sequel to ME? I've heard rumours that it'll take place during the Reaper War which would mean Quarians, Krogan and Drell are still playable.

If it takes place before the events of Mass Effect then all of those races will still be playable

I guess they have to. A game with Quarians, Krogan, Drell, Geth, Elcor, Batarians, Hanar and even Humans nearly exterminated wouldn't be a whole lot of fun.

Since I doubt that Awakened Collectors will be available in the future title, I will stick to being human.  I may also consider the possibility of playing as a Geth or a Salarian.

Quarians and Turians, definitely.
There's a lot of potential for customisation with suit programs, plus the excitement of dealing with killer allergies.
As for Turians... who wouldn't want to be a spiky, insectoid dinosaur space Roman?

The Geth would be fun, but there is just no way to do the whole networked-intelligence thing right.

Just let the Character be itself, but grant skill bonuses when enjoying a network hookup.

Turian, Asari, and Geth.

That'd be pretty interesting.
