I'm not sure if it was mentioned already, but there's a quest where 2 dwarfs try to find the Lost Thaig in DA][. They don't succeed.

While it hardly matters, I think several Templars at Kirkwall saw what Red Lyrium can do. It's the Blood Mage of Templars. Maybe they "use it as a last resort" to capture/kill mages. If so, it is very hypocritical from their part.

Doesn't mean they'll be a prominent force throughout the entire game. They could have a very minor role in DA:I.

It's possible with the Fade veil being ripped open it's corrupting all the blue lyrium in Thedas.

I like this theory. I'm not sure if blue lyrium can be corrupted, but the presence of a Hunger Demon and several ghosts in the Lost Thaig give it a solid base. The only that shakes this theory a bit is that we don't know if the Demon was there since ever or was attracted by Profanes.

After Hawke found the idol, corrupted lyrium veins started showing up around Kirkwall. I assumed Hawke essentially opened pandora's box with that expedition. Hence more red lyrium.

Wait, were you just speculating or were you serious? Cause I don't remember that at all.

Not exactly speculating, no. They are a crafting resource and the corrupted ones only show up in Act II. I thought Act III too, but I guess not. They also only show up in the Bone Pit, so, grain of salt.

I can see it now... templars taking the red lyrium statue of Knight-Commander Meredith, and chipping away pieces thus turning it into dust. They then sniff the dust and getting off off of Meredeth's body.

It's like bath salts.

Given that Meridith turned into... whatever, what's to say Red Lyrium can't just keep growing?

It was once driven back/isolated/locked away/backstory. Our great Champion released it to the world. Now it grows again.
