All I saw him doing was pressing random things on the hologram. Of course the direct, easy way to answer is that because it's fictional. And it's awesome knowing your pilot is handicap but still the best. If anyone in the same or similar condition as him is playing the game, maybe that'll make them like his character more.

..Or maybe that'll make them hate him since they know its Bull Sh*t. Who knows.

As has been said before. He doesn't pilot with his legs. Technology has advanced to the point where you don't need prime physical traits to pilot a ship. So long as he keeps the part he DOES use in shape (upper body) he's fine. Lack of gravity? Strap him into his chair. He'll still make it dance for you. After all, he said it himself. "I'm the best damn Pilot in the Alliance fleet! Put the Normandy in my hands, and I'll make it dance for you. Just don't expect me to."

So no legwork. Upper body is fine and it's evidence that as technology changes/advances, so do our rules and regulations regarding recruitment.

Watch the new Battlestar Galactica. While (both) Normandy-class vessels are a little sportier and "Star Wars" then the Galactica, it's still the best paradigm for space travel available. Think about the first Joker line from the original ME - he talks about the accuracy of his jump in hundreds of thousands of kilometers. "Piloting" is irrelevant. Survival is based on the accuracy and technical capability of your ship systems, and your capability to use them. The only time where you would actually hands-on "fly" the ship would be for precision operations like docking or low-speed maneuvering into a crater. For all intents and purposes, it's a submarine, not a flghter or bomber. Hence - the CIC.

The Normandy isn't a tomcat and Joker isn't a fighter pilot.

If there was any significant force on persons inside the craft due to speed and/or maneuvering then why is everyone you see standing/walking around?

For further verification of this, when you make the Mass Relay jump during the intro cinematic you're casually strolling up to the cockpit.

Its been said before, the Normandy 1 or 2 are not fighter craft its a frigate if I am not mistaken, also its 200 years in the future, I am sure by then they have gotten rid of the need for foot pedals. It would be kinda sad if in 200 years we are still using todays tech.

(artificial gravity field generated by the ship's Mass-Matter Time Space Flux Effect Engine Core/Battery of specific content/periodical materials?) How come the earth gravity doesn't counter the effect of the G Force generated by a Carnival ride once people are in them, why are they stuck in their position? Let's ride the Hyperspace gyroscope.

Tomcat is in Warp 9

It's an interesting question, and the answer must simply be that our future military has significantly lowered its entry standards for recruits.

OK, with out writing a spoiler in a thread where that's prohibited, does any one at all remember the beginning of ME2 with joker in it? Right. That was all due to Joker being a marshmallow jellyfish with chocolate covered pretzels for bones. This is precisely why the military would not allow a cripple on a combat ship. I mean, like.... THE text book reason. In soldier 101, lession one is "If in combat you just might have to have real bones." Now, that's not saying the military won't make an exception for certain cases. Joker seems to think hes the best pilot in the galaxy. I think the character should have been a younger, more piloty version of Dr. House. Then i could buy it. Some one so good, that despite the fact that he is crippled and a liability in ship to ship combat where people are boarding vessels or people need to evacuate, you still want him on your side. I think the character should have been written as a progeny, and should have been semi-famous in the military for making the Kessle run in less then 12 parsecs or some thing equally unbackstroried.

Oh, and Joker is still my favorite character, hands down. Despite that his existence seems to be an aberration.

An interesting discussion was brought up in the old ME forums in an "is Joker romanceable thread" about the credibility of Joker becoming a pilot and how the control scheme of a spacecraft might work, since the old forums were closed I thought I might bring it up here a a topic for discussion.

Now the reason I find it hard to believe that Joker is a pilot is because of the high level of fitness needed to even be considered for a pilot (this is doubly so in the military) and a kid with brittle bones has no chance of passing the fitness test, hell it sounds like even enough g-force could potentially cause Joker to crack a rib.

Also there is one line that Joker says that really irks me "Uh I dont fly with my feet Commander". Now I cant claim that when we do design and build ships capable of traveling throuh outer space I would know how to pilot them, I know that flying a ship through outer space and flying a plane within Earth's atmosphere would be 2 totally different kettles of fish and I also know that the crew on the normandy takes more inspiration from the Navy than the Air Force but I do have to assume that the controls of a Spacecraft would be slightly similar to an Aircraft with the stick or wheel controling the roll and pitch and foot pedals controling the yaw.

But that is just my opinion on the subject, discuss.

dude its a game so deal with it

So as the person who necro'd this thread can probably see, you are more likely to get people to address your points if you start a new thread rather than reviving an older one.
