Would you prefer DA:I to be a continuation of Dragon Age: Origins and/or Dragon Age: 2, or would you want it to be a standalone game? I think it's fair to say that DA: 2 was a standalone game, it had different characters, a different setting and a different scope. It seems that DA: I is going to have a bigger scale than 2 so there is definitely room to include the people and the politics of DA: O and 2, but there is also an opportunity to start fresh in a brand new setting where those things can and are foriegn. Basically, it can really go either way. What would you prefer personally, standalone, continuation or (if possible, explain) both?
Standalone or continuation.

Continuation. It makes the game series overall more exciting to know what happens next.

If I was up to me I would have done this. I would given the green light to both DA3 and DAI.
I would have had DA3 come out this year and deal with the aftermath of Kirkwall without Hawke and his/her LI if he/she had one. I think perhaps the story could have be set around Aveline and the Nobles trying to keep Orlais and the Templars at bay. A new PC could be perhaps be a high ranking noble trying to help Aveline and eventually taking the title in the end (or not depending on your own decisions). Most of the companions of DA2 (who lived) could still be companions or have heavy cameos. And or course new companions like Charade Amell and perhaps Athenril could also be used. These two would be esp nice because of their connection with Hawke. And perhaps one of the two Dwarven brothers Hawke saved in Act 3 in the deep roads.
Just think how emotional it would be to pass Hawke's mansion in Hightown and seeing some other family living there.
Then next year, DAI could come out and pretty much the same as it is now except for maybe a few changes due to decisions made in DA3.
And I think it could have provided perhaps two Dragon Age franchises that could be released alternately. Once for the gamer who likes the huge epic story line and the other for gamers who like a more close-knit, character driven story, more intimate story.
Anyway I know most of you will nuts yelling at me telling me how dumb this is, but I like it,

The protagonist was different in DA2, but I don't feel that it was a standalone game with no ties to events in DA:O (especially with Anders playing such a significant role). In any case, DA:I should be - and clearly will be - a continuation in my eyes. They've already said that they will be tying up some of the existing loose ends from the previous games, and that's in line with what I want.
A standalone game in some completely different area wouldn't really accomplish that. However, once all (or at least most) of the questions are answered, I wouldn't mind if they set off on some brand-new standalone adventure with characters who have zero ties to the previous games - just not in DA:I.
