Which DA:O/A/2 companion would you hate to see return in DA:I?

I don't know who wrote MotA, but I do know that it wasn't the entire writing team. And it was DLC, not Official Campaign, so I don't know if it was held to the same standards.Taleroth wrote...
I'm less worried about Tallis returning and more about what that might mean generally speaking. The writing in the third act of Dragon Age 2 I could chalk up to the deadline. But if they wrote like that for the DLCs then I see cause to be skeptical of improvement.berelinde wrote...
@Taleroth: Honestly, I don't expect Tallis to be back as a companion. I could see her returning as a cameo, as a potential adversary or (temporary) ally, or as an actor in some qunari plot, but the devs have to be aware of how problematic companion status would be for her. It would be far easier to start over with a different female elf with less baggage.
BioWare is usually really good about presenting a balanced cast. There are exceptions, most notably writing Anomen - the sole male LI in BG2 - as a jerk who kinda deserves most of the abuse the rest of the cast heaps upon him, but David Gaider explained how this happened in the panel he did about inclusivity at the Gaymer con last month.
The intention of the DLC probably was to focus the spotlight firmly on Tallis, eclipsing the OC characters, but the calibration was off. People sometimes love the flaws as much as the "good" features, so depriving her of the former prevented her from being as sympathetic as she could have been. In a larger game, the characters share the focus with other elements (like plot!), and the focus shifts to balance and budgets, not individual achievement.
TL;DR: I think the necessities of writing an entire game will prevent them from making the same mistakes.

All but one of her endings have her dying. This means that if she came back as an important character not only would it be another retcon, but it would ruin the emotional aspect of her death.
I don't think they ever tell you in the epilogue when she dies, if she dies. So it's perfectly plausible.
There seems to be only two endings where she doesn't become a depressed death seeker on her Calling, or die defending the Keep.
After Anders, I guess I'm just wary of characters I love returning in new games.

Everyone else is welcome, as long as their appearance makes sense.I don't want any pointless cameos like Zevran in DA2.

But nobody is essential to the DA story. Morrigan's epilogue mentioned Orlais, so I think it makes sense for her to be here.

Nope. Even Varric has detractors.Xsari Rose wrote...

There's also fatigue. If you're in love with a character, seeing them or hearing about them repeatedly in the games, DLCs, books, and forums is a pleasant little fix, but overexposure smothers less ardent affection. People who love chocolate can devour great quantities of it without getting sick of it, but less avid consumers get tired of it pretty quickly. And some people are allergic.

DAA - Velanna or Oghren.
DA2 - Anders, Tallis or Sebastian.

I like her, but I can see why some people would be put off her abrasive personality, or her advocating things like helping the templars slaughter the Circle when she's a mage too. Or sacrificing City Elves in a blood ritual, and then disapproving if you don't (even if your Warden's dad is standing *right there*).

So fingers crossed that if she is back, the writers can at least give her a personality makeover.

Anders, Fenris and Sebastian were overflowing with zealotry way too much for my taste. I detested them more and more each playthrough.
Oghren was too much ale in one bag of blood and bones.
Merrill didn't seem to get any wiser throughout the DA2 years. Although she kinda grew on me and I could see her side of things, I still wouldn't want to see her back. I liked her a lot more from her brief appearance in DAO. In DA2 sometimes she was just annoying.

even the characters i wasnt fond of, like fenris and alistair, were at least generally well written enough for me to like them as characters even if i didn't care for them as people if that makes sense. but tallis is a horribly written and horribly conceived character. if they have to get their obligatory felicia day vanity stuff into da:i, then i hope they at least revise how she's done, because all through mota it just felt like they were smacking me in the face with "isnt this character SO AWESOME ISNT FELICIA DAY GREAT???" while she practically played the game for me when it was convenient to further prove how cool she was
but it was a vanity dlc and felicia day is still kind of a thing in the gaming world so i won't be surprised if she shows up, but im hoping that itll be a short thing and if we're forced to keep her around, at least i can hope theyll start writing her better.

Oghren: Although I thought Oghren was hilarious, we got our fill of him in DAO:A. I've always wondered if the reason the designers put him in Awakening was due to the possibility (probability) that -- if you followed the "preferred path," you'd pick him up last of all the possible, non DLC companions.
Alistair: While I loved him, three of Alistair's fates in DAO (and DAOA) make his inclusion as a companion difficult at best: he's dead; he's a drunk back in Redcliffe; he's king of Ferelden. While a drunk Alistair could be interesting, we already had Oghren and I see no reason to bring in another drunk, this one with identity issues. The only other Alistair, the warden, could be included, but they'd have to work around so many issues for the game that I'm not sure it would be worth it (sort of like what they did in ME3 if Garrus or Tali died in ME2). (Assuming they just don't pull a Leliana).
DAOA
Velanna: This is one of the few companions I personally dislike and it's difficult for me to abandon that dislike since I've never played a Dalish elf for the expansion. She's a murderer who never really seems all that apologetic for what she did... She disgusts me.
DA2
I really liked all of the main companions in DA2 a lot. I felt they were complex and fairly well designed, especially when some of their hard-held beliefs were (possibly) later thrown in their faces (read: Fenris). That said, I didn't really care for either of the DLC characters:
Sebastian: While they tried to make him more well-rounded, I think Sebastian tended to come across as somewhat dry and vanilla. He was full of platitudes that, despite his fairly "randy" youth, must made him sound self-righteous. I suspect that, for me, the fact that we had both Isabela and Varric who filled the rogue role from Act I in your party (hilariously) makes Sebastian pale in comparison.
Tallis: I think Berelinde's analysis of why she's a missed mark is spot on. She had great potential, but didn't work out as well as she could have. That said, I don't HATE her, just could do with out her.
