I really liked this build in origins I'm wondering if the new freedom discussed in the trailer extends to how you play your class? Not all warriors are brutes, some are finesse and I felt like something was lost here. Never touched DA2 as a result.

Like this fyi ... I assume it's publicly viewable ... http://social.biowar...na_id=212771190

Just to be sure, I know Inquisition is going to be dramatically different, wondering how free we gonna be? :D

That's a maybe according to Laidlaw himself during the podcast that game informer did earlier today, though you can use different weapon types in your class like DAO if you want Cassandra to be 2h or S&S you can do so.

If I remember correctly they also said something about bows for warriors but we'll have to wait and see what they decide to do

What you need to ask first is whether Dex will be related to dodging at all.

I really hope so, as that was my favorite build too.

I never liked the idea of a warrior Dual Wielding. Unsure why, but I felt it was stupid for some reason.

Weapon restrictions are similar to Dragon age 2.
Warrior: Two handed or one handed + sheild.
Rogue: Duel daggers or Bows/crossbows
Mage: Staffs

Though unlike DA2, you wont have a rogue that can only use daggers or a warrior that can only use sword&shield. Those companion weapon restrictions are gone.

Mike, I think, said he is looking at it but for now it's no.

It's the same as DA2. Or else that 'hook' ability displayed of the 2 handed warrior would be pointless and irrelevant.

Aw. I wanted to have a Mage that used a 1 handed sword. :(

Ah well, the staff is OK too.

For some reason I'm reluctant even though I enjoyed a dex/dagger build in DAO. Now I find it to be too rogue like, I guess. As they say, It's your game. You should be able to play it the way you want to.

I think the real problem is if the rogues give the warriors dual wielding and possibly archery... they get nothing in return. Maybe they could get 2h weapon talents? I wanna backstab someone with a maul!

Also Gaider implied that mages can wear heavy armor even if magic warrior isn't coming back so I'd like to think they can use weapons other than staves too.

Or if any stat will.  Or if there will be a viable damage mitigation solution that doesn't involve armour.

We know almost nothing about DAI's mechanics.  Though, in the PAX video I was heartened to see that 2-H sword doing 28 damage at a time.  That's a reasonable looking number, without a pile of extraneous zeroes added to the end.  That made me happy.

Please bring it back. I want to be able to wield two swords again.

Link?

I really hope they will give us dex-tanking, preferably, combined with ranged skills. Ranged dex-tank warrior..*sigh*...

For things like the mage staff, IIRC (since I occasionally make lore errors.... >_>) the staff is a big part of the mage's magical ability. I know the combat guys were exploring some newer approaches to staves and how they work, but it is still quite early for those details so things are in flux and I cannot comment too much on it.

We still want to maintain some level of distinction between classes.

'Some level of distinction' can be maintained via skills and play style, not via restricting basic weapons. The fact that warrior can wield a crossbow or double short swords does not actually make him a rogue.

Come on! That's unfair! Duncan could apparently use shields! And he was a 100% confirmed DW rogue. ;)
