Taking the Novaguard to plat?

Hey guys, so I currently use this build on my Novaguard - http://kalence.drupa...!33153363!A.0DG

I specced into half blast purely for additional survivability, but that was only one or two promotions ago, I used to take power recharge evo on nova for max damage but found that stray shots were killing me to often on gold. I've taken my novaguard to plat a few times now, and I do pretty good with him, he's mainly a detonator for my other teammates in plat seeing as how half blast nova is to weak to do decent damage to plat enemies. The problem is, I feel like I'm not contributing enough when I'm just a living detonator, sure I get a crapload of assists by the end of the match, but I'm usually on the bottom of the scoreboard. (Yes, I know score doesn't matter as long as you extract, but still.)

Any other Novaguard fans left out there that care to suggest alternate builds that work decently well on plat? I know he's not exactly the best kit for platinum, but he's still my most loved character and I'm determined to make him work on platinum. Is there any good builds that can effetively utilize shockwave? I was thinking of just going back to the power recharge evo, throwing on Shotgun ULM V, and throwing on a power efficiency module instead of a power amp so that I can BC as much as possible for the I-frames/barrier restoration.

Manifest is in sig, suggest alternate weapons to use, alternate builds etc, I'm open to any and all advice.

There are so many bosses I don't see how you'd go a single round without getting synced.

Oh come on guys, live a little! + Give me some credit, I know how to avoid syncs and proper charge etiquette etc. The few times I played plat with him, I was synced only once or twice per game, which is bad compared to non-CQC characters but pretty damn good for a vanguard that's up in everything's face all the time.

I know some people have used him successfully on platinum, and I'm not an idiot with my Novaguard, I don't charge into banshees or charge a brute and stay still just begging to be synced, I'm literally always in motion when I play him, if you stay in one spot = you die.

I want him to be my most well rounded character, able to use him on any/all difficulties and feel like I'm contributing to the team with more than just a bunch of assists. (Although detonating everyone else's explosions is still a lot of fun and very satisfying)

I use 6/6/6/6/0
I don't think the small amount of shield from fitness makes a lot of difference on plat, plus nova drains them anyway. I use inceindiary ammo and detonate with shockwave when there are to many sync kill units to charge

Yeah, I was thinking of speccing my novaguard like that for plat, but do you take power recharge or half blast on nova? If half blast, what weapon(s) do you take to make up for the lesser damage? If power recharge, is nova significantly more useful on plat with full damage, or is the difference so small that it's not even worth losing all your barriers as compared to 50%? Do you take lifting shockwave or recharge speed? (I was thinking recharge might be best, but lifting + nova = boom. So there's that option to.)

If you're serious about this, iirc a double nova will be roughly the cool down of charge with a reasonable weight weapon. You can keep up a real steady stream of damage while all those i-frames keep you alive, but you'll be required to stay very close to the enemy and you'll get sync pretty quick.

For shockwave, lift only works on health targets, and everything in plat is armored. Not worth the time.

I use half blast with the acolyte and Csmg or wraith. It's been a while since I tried a power recharge build and I wasn't good at playing it, so I'm not sure if it would be better. I guess it would depend on your playstyle

in a 4 man biotic squad with singularities, reaves, and smash priming techbursts/BEs everywhere, the novaguard is quite a monster, especially if the rest of the team is right up there in the thick of things with him to keep him from being focused down.

novaguard is also a pretty decent detonator for a snap cheese paladin

Moral of this thread: bring a very good, coordinated team with you if you insist trying these type of shenanigans

It's not hard; the link in my signature has an explanation.

Acolyte + Incendiary or Talon + Disruptor can give you a pretty steady damage output. Leave the bosses for last and focus on the Phantoms and below.

Once you learn how, it's pretty easy to get the ball rolling.

You'll be on a roll.

You can just roll with the punches.

Umm...light melee.

Ok i'm going.

I think we've discovered the perfect theme song for Novaguards.

You're correct, with my Wraith II, BC gets off cooldown after two novas. I usually just BC-Nova-Wraith-Nova, repeat until target is dead. Nova was quite...unimpressive against plat bosses, but it's still useful for it's i-frames or the occasional stagger to enemies reduced to health.

When I play my Novaguard, I've gotten used to playing cautiously, yet aggresive at the same time, I always engage enemies I know I can take out easily (brutes, ravagers, groups of mooks, phantoms, dragoons, nemisis, etc whatever is the current biggest threat to my team) before moving on to the harder stuff (banshees, praetorians, etc)

Good point about shockwave. I didn't really want to use it anyways. ^_^

It's so satisfying playing with good teammates that prime things for me. I don't think there's a more satisfying sound in the game than multiple BE's. :wizard:

So, what you're saying is you're going to play with me on plat and prime stuff for me?  (On a sidenote, how is my host? I do believe I saw you and the others rubber band once or twice while I hosted that gold game with my Novaguard a while back)

No, this() is the perfect song for Novaguards (or ME3 MP in general) B)

Edit: How do you rename the link like that? I tried using *url=www.whatever*name of link*/url* (*=[ ]) but the link just led to my BSN profile.

I type some text, highlight it and then click that button for hyperlinks in the menu bar above the text box. Should be self-explanatory after that.

I use this build on Platinum:

http://kalence.drupa...!33N52364!A30BG

-I specced into Shockwave because it is a really useful power, it helps a lot in some situations, and it is worth skipping the 6th evo of the passive tree.

-Use Geth Scanner! Increased awareness = better survivability. It is the best piece of gear that you could use.

-Acolyte: use on mooks and to set up Fire Explosions (I use it about 90% of the game), CSMG: for Guardians and bosses that you shouldn't charge (Praetorians, for example).

I've tried the Shockwave build but I don't think its worth the investment. Whatever extra damage you get with the +65% detonate evolution you could have easily been made up for with a Charge > Nova Tech/Fire Explosion. If I'm in a group where there's not much to detonate I'll roll with a weapon heavy build using a Raider, Harrier, Reegar, or any other moderate weight high output weapon. With the recharge evo on Nova the added weights pretty irrelevant. That said, if there's not much to detonate I just play the Drell.

Use Talon, skip Shockwave... Never forget that you're nothing without a reliable primer... This means don't get far away from your team.

Go Half Blast, pack a Talon with pistol power amp mod and a piercing mod.

I suggest 4b evo of the BC. It's better because you will stagger everything around you and detonade explosions around you.
For platinum build I suggest Acolyte + Hurricane combo with incendiary ammo. Cyclonic III or IV will help you stay alive.

You're using Nova, so your shields go down really quickly no matter what. I'd go with a good Power Amplifier IV.

Talon ammo + piercing, incendiary ammo for self spolsions.
Nova cancel a lot and if in a bad situation nova cancel always after charge at least once or twice until you get your charge back up.

Easily platinum worthy class if played right.

Always go half blast on nova and I personally take Commado Package, incendiary, pistol amp, Cyclonics.

Typical Novaguard build.
