It’s really hard to decide on how to build him. More so than any other character.
First of all, is Ascension Stance even worth using in the Fitness tree? 45 seconds is barely enough time to do anything. And it has a negative which is Damage taken, which I guess can be canceled out with Seeker Swarms Damage Protection (up to 40%) also I wouldn’t have any extra Health and Shields if I want to make Ascension Stance worth using.
What about Dark Sphere? I heard some of the Damage Over Time skills in the tree are broken and they don’t work.
The Power Damage and extra Weapon Damage for Collector/Prothean weapons are just too good to pass up.
So that just leaves Dark Channel, but Dark Channel is just wonderful for priming when using Warp Ammo. It will keep Bosses Barriers/Shields from recharging or make Phantoms go into cover then Die Over Time.
Idk what to do, skip Fitness?
Skip some skills in Dark Sphere/Dark Channel for extra Health and Shields?
Skip Seeker Swarms for Health and Shields?

I like AS, some people don't. As stated, I just counter it with swarms. Again, it's a personal choice, both ways effective.
It's 5A I think that's bugged. Which ever one increases the duration. Basically the DoT is divided over a larger time, but the actual duration of the ability does not increase, meaning you do less damage over the same time.
There are both power and weapon builds. If you're going for a weapon build, weapons are better, but ACA has some crazy power bonuses too.
I skip DC, but that's just my build. Some people incorporate it into a BE build with swarms.
Just do the do. Imo, you really just ought to try and make it yourself. You might spend a few respecs but whatever comes out of it will be the best build for you.

He plays very differently to any other character in the game, therefore seems 'difficult'
at first.
My build, currently, is similar to Tokenusername's, I haven't specced Dark Chanel, but
it changes on respec, depending on what I want to do with him. I like to have Ascended
what'sit running all the time, the damage bonus is great, and cover works 100% no
matter how squishy your character.
Any build, given the time to learn to exploit him, is good.
Good luck.

so 5A increases from 250 in 5 secs to 350 in 7 secs? "in" rather than "for"?

Normally what DS does is apply 337 (base) damage over 5 seconds. Taking 5A is supposed to increase the damage to 437 over 7 seconds, but it leaves the duration at 5 seconds. So taking 5A will reduce your damage to 312 damage over 5 seconds.
Just forget it ever exists and call it a day.

Dark Sphere being the Biotic Sphere.
Dark Channel being Reave.
and Seeker Swarms being Biotic Orbs for detonation of both Dark Sphere and Dark Channel. :3

There are two ways I build him... One where I skip Swarms and only play him with other biotic detonating characters in the game. This build is basically the master primer, everything you do power wise primes for Biotic explosions. Hitting a spawn with Dark Sphere and Dark Channel, then sending a Vanguard in afterwards is really badass.
The other way is no fitness or 6/6/6/5/3 or 6/5/6/6/3 (5 in Swarms). Pretty much a straight up caster build. Send out the sphere, cast Dark Channel, detonate the sphere, spam Swarms and fire your gun during the long cooldown.
Always remember to cast Swarms AFTER you cast Dark Sphere but BEFORE you detonate the sphere... This lets you get a free cooldown on Swarms. Ditto with Dark Channel.
Hard to beat the Collector SMG on him... Unless you're doing the PPR/soldier thing. Collector AR is surprisingly decent on him with Warp IV ammo. Dark Channel followed up with those guns + Warp ammo is just devastating.
I always spec Dark Sphere Radius/recharge speed/Radius. This avoids one of the bugged evos (DOT duration) and turns the thing into a huge bomb that obliterates spawns. It also lets you cast it at odd angles above spawns and still hit lots of bad guys.
Hope this helps. I'll check in on this later if you want to ask anything.

Seeker Swarm: 6 ranks, defensive
Dark Channel: 6 ranks, armor/barrier damage
Training: 5 ranks, power damage
Fitness: 6 ranks, Ascension
With all of my time using him, this is the best build I could come up with. Dark Sphere really isn't that different between 3 ranks and 6, as weird as that may sound.
The thing about Ascension Stance is... it doesn't ONLY boost power damage. Something easily overlooked is that it also boosts weapon damage. Both by 25%. That's a lot. Turn it on at the beginning of each wave and leave it alone until the next. Avoid using it on non-assassination objective waves until they're done so your defense is higher. Cast Dark Channel while Dark Sphere is flying through the air. Leave Seeker Swarms on at all times unless you REALLY want a detonation.
Feels good. You glow green and stuff, too.

This is the build that has always worked for me. Speced this way he can eat two direct hits from two banshee bolts before the dot sends him into shield gate. I use DC and a detonation DS for pure stagger purposes. Can't beat 1500 N of force on the DS detonation. I speced him this way to be both tanky and make the most of warp ammo. I also got a plat solo done with this build. Wallbouncing gives you wings. Lol.
NOTE: Before I forget op, be careful when casting DS at a Banshee. Cause if she throws her bolt directly into the core of your sphere, she'll bounce it right back at you. I have had that happen on at least five known occasions when playing him. Dirty dirty Banshee.

Doesn't matter if your casting DS or DC as both are capable of going boom with Swarmers. Generally what I do is toss out a DS and then DC followed by my swarmers. After the ensuing BEs I recast my swarmers and cancel its cooldown but making my DS go splode.
AS just doesn't work well with me. But hey to each their own.

Actually worked pretty well. Only thing though is that I skipped fitness in order to max out Seeker Swarms for Damage and Slow (blehg). Not worth the points, but I can't just shoot all day without throwing a power. That'd be boring as ****.

using swarms is so bothersome for me because once i start depleting charges i feel I need to expend the rest so i'm not running around with the risk that i'll need to recharge in cover from a turret while a phantom sneaks up on me. or any similar scenario.oO Stryfe Oo wrote...

Big trick once you start tossing your swarms as well is that you only get the cool down for DS when you detonate it. So lets just say you have 1 swam left. You can toss DS and stick it to the floor, toss your SS for a BE, then recast SS to summon more swarms, but then immediately deto DS and it overrides the cool down from summoning swarms and you only have the 1 DS cool down.

Probably a decent read to help you decide what's best for you. I find the power spam build is generally better on Gold and the PPR better on Plat. A lot of good builds though. Hope this helps at least at understanding the CDs and the CD cancels.

As for the seeker swarm, do U get BE if U launch them before detonating the DS ? It must be the case. Dont knopw why I missed that...
