Hoping we'll get a normal run/stance animation for a female PC this time

The fact that he has a TW2 sig doesn't make the Miranda ass shots nonexistent. Much like Triss's boobs, thise ass shots are still there. You would think that the cinematographer (DOP or whatever the video game equivalent for it is) worked for Vivid Entertainment of Brazzers.

You may want to acquaint yourself with the meaning of the "those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" idiom.

And you may want to acquaint yourself w/ the meaning of tu quoque; appeal to hypocrisy.

Fair enough, I suppose.  Though I never defended Miranda, or EDI.

Then it looks like we're good here. No hard feelings.

I was absolutely horrified with me3 femshep's walking/running animation out of combat. I still cringe whenever I see it. At least with femhawke I was able to switch to the male animation with a mod (it's still not good, but at least warrior hawke doesn't look ridiculous anymore).

I have hopes for DAI though, considering that Vivienne and Cassandra have different animations. A warrior that sways her hips too much is just too hard to take seriously.
Actually, I have yet to see a woman who sways her hips while running for fitness.

When did Bioware become the patron saint of videogaming equality anyway?

Lately Bioware seem to be making their ladies run in a manner that's strange.

The latest leading ladies of Bioware, Lady Hawke and Femshep had weird/over the top running animations. Lady Hawke looked like she had a broken hip when standing still. Honestly, it looked painful then her hips went all over the show when she was running about the place. Femshep had a weird jog that made it look like she was skipping while waiting for her wet nail polish to dry.

Needless to say, these bothered me quite a bit, more so that I couldn't just mod the horrid things out so I was stuck with skippy and hip-breaking.

I'm really hoping this is fixed in DAI. It was annoying that my fully plate armoured sword-and-shield Warrior strutted about like she was from the Blooming Rose or looking like she had a dislocated hip when standing still.

I know some people complained about the 'manly' run cycles in DAO, but Bioware flew right past the ballpark with their lady walk in DA2. Even a normal woman wouldn't be able to walk like that without falling over. Heck, ME3 was bad, that skippy-run nearly made me stop my Femshep playthrough.

I don't want my lady PC to run like a man. I don't want her to run like she's dislocated her hips. I don't want her to run like she's waiting for her nails to dry. I want her to run like a normal woman.

where did you see that? (i play on PC and for me those animations looked fine...)

as for "running like a man" - women that don't try to walk different don't look much different then men IMHO...strangely a lot of people seem to think differently about that...

couldnt you have picked something original to moan about like re hashed areas or awesome buttons, you know something thats not been beaten with dead stick?

You know the best thing about the fem hawke animations, they actually took the time for once to differentiate between the genders, but typically from you lot on the BSN its not good enough, fook shipping DAI with a free bar of gold wouldnt be good enough for you lot

I do find it amusing how so many people act as if Bioware is a pinnacle for what the treatment of females should be like in video games. They are alright, but certainly not the top.

But yeah, the animators need to research how people run/walk.

The one game I can think of that did running/walking animations remotely "well" is Guild Wars 2.

Can you think of any studio with greater focus on equality?

I never really payed much attention to female walk/run animations in video games, but when i saw those animations in DA2 I couldn't stop myself from laughing.

Having a decent run animation isn't much of a comfort when your character is flashing her panties and has to wear a stupid frilly garter in the starting light armour. But back to DA, yes, Hawke's run animation was a little silly.  I never noticed the so-called 'manly' run for female characters in DAO, so I guess I didn't perceive it as such.  I don't recall there being lots of thread on the male run for either game, which suggests that either people focus on female appearance much more for a variety of reasons or that Bioware simply got it right for the guys.

It's not horrible beyond belief, I just switch on my mental 'la la la I'm not listening' filter and soon I stop noticing, but it's not good. Knowing someone actively expended resources to make something not good doesn't help though, it starts you thinking that if they're gonna do it, they could do it right.

Female walking animation never bothered me to be honest. The only thing that made me chuckle was FemShep sitting with her legs spread in ME2 when she wore her dress, but it didn't bother me.

A little bit more realism would be nice. That said I'd rather they focus on making a game that is fun to play and coherent. I doubt something like this a game breaker for anybody.

Wasn't the reason they made the animation more feminine because the fans complained?

Or lord here we go. I can't wait for another essay on how The Witcher 2's full-frontal female nudity (while Geralt wears shorts) makes it super-mature while Bioware's low-cut tops are degrading to women and Isabela is an awful **** because she enjoys sex.

This, this and this.

I found femSheps run in ME2 jarring, but not fem Hawke, and I thought they vastly improved femSheps run in ME3.

Saints Row (3 and 4) all have better female animations than any Bioware game.

If you mean cutscenes, the female walks and acts exactly like the male.
But in gameplay, she stands exactly like Hawke but has better walking.

So i'd say Skyrim got it more right than any game.

The male animation walk/run has always been ok, but with the female animation, it was like showing off a bit of attitude.

@all who spoke of femShep:
femShep never EVER had female-specific animation, through all 3 games. They used shared animations for both genders, romance scenes included (e.g. femShep shares animation with mShep (Liara) or Kaidan in 'Chronos' scene). But...they knew how much femShep fans were suffering, how they asked for something 'more feminine', so within their last DLC they made this (careful, you won't be able to unsee it).

Compared to femShep, Hawke looked nice to me. May be, a little bit exaggerated, but not that awful as some people try to make it sound. Some gender-specific animation set is better than none, imo. And there is always some place for improvements.

I think the silly run fitted Hawke, because he/she was such a silly character. If you play a sarcastic Hawke, then you get a character that perfectly fits the feminine/camp running animation.

Judging from the pre-alpha gameplay and the few seconds Vivienne is shown running, swaying hips will return.

I find them annoying but considering they've already featured in that animation I'll live with it. If I'm going to dissect the little information we've received and pick out a ridiculous run as the worst thing I've seen I've got little to complain about. As has been pointed out - I can't have my cake and eat it too (if it's not a lie.) I can't complain if the PC isn't feminine enough and if she swishes too much.

Oh.my.god.
That thing should come with a warning.
I'll have nightmares from this.

And I actually liked FemHawke's running animation.
But THAT? That needs to die.

Ugh, worst walking ever. And, worse, they gave her the male walking in the scene with Liara. The ME animator deserves the award for the worst walking ever happened in a game. The fact that fShepard had male animations most of times made the game cringeworthy.
