hello since bioware pays attention to these forums i would like to display my disappointment that darkspawn are not scary, fearsome or intimidating anymore. I loved them in origins because it showed their crulty e.g sliting mans throat before denerim battle/ throwing dwarves onto spikes, things like that...in dragon age 2 they are funny looking humans, i never understood why, so any feed back would be lovely ;p
p.s heres hoping you make me wet myself next game with scary Darkspawn <3
please make darkspawn scary again

Yeah, I was not a fan of the darkspawn redesign for DA2. The ones in Origins looked much better. It's fine to update the visuals and add some touches, but I hope they stick more with the Origins framework than the DA2 one.

Generic orcs or putties from Power Rangers?
Truly this is a difficult choice.

Yeah, they never really looked scary.
I remember expecting them to after seeing those cloaked, corrupted looking dudes in the intro, but then...zombie orcs.

If those truly are the only two options then it doesn't seem difficult to me. I'll take generic orcs any day.

Since they're doing the whole DA2/DA:O merging RIGHT, I'd like to see more of Legacy's redesigned Darkspawn. I mean, those Alphas looked badass!

They did look pretty damn silly in DA2. The darkspawn are evil, unnatural creatures who spread a lethal taint to everyone and everything around them by simply being there, and their look should reflect that. They should be disgusting and diseased-looking, covered in pus, and blood, and god knows what else.
I thought this was a step in the right direction:

Do more of that, and less of this:

...err, sorry. Wrong picture. I mean this:

Yeah, don't do any more of that. That's not cool.

Steiner is freaking awesome! You don't mess with someone who can jump 1000 times in heavy armour.

Perhaps scary is a wrong word, grim more like.
The Darkspawn in DA2 all look like monkeys. I like the idea of the Genlock redesign, but I'd prefer it with the DA:O looks.

Legacy was a step in the right direction.
Now, if they fixed their waddling animation, and the darkspawn's obsession with spiky armor, it would be great.

I'd say a mixture of the Legacy DLC Darkspawn design and the Awakening Addon Darkspawn design would be perfect.
Not quite generic orcs and definately not those silly putties, but something in between.

Bioware should take a look at Dark Souls for some inspiration at creating real and amazing monsters and characters. At least Dark Souls did it right, for as little background the characters you interact with had.

Enoyed the look of the Darkspawn in DAO and DAA. However in DA2 the Hurlocks looked like Mimes and the Genlocks looked as though they found a rare steroid type of lyrium. I have no idea what you could say the Orges looked like, clowns on meth would be my guess.

thanks for your feed back guys ;p, loving it, i just felt darkspawn in dragon age 2 were funny, not evil in anyway. ..perhaps age is apart of it ....guess im just pining over origins haha
edit : also darkspawn having clean/ brand new armor is dumb.

I prefer Red Darkspawns. They suit Red Templars well.

I generally disliked what they did with darkspawn in DA2, they looked comically over-enthused, too much flailing and waddling, the ogres I didn't mind - though I probably prefer the DA:O ones a tad more even though I'd say they're more generic. I did, however, like the genlocks in DA2 (the ones in DA:O were goofy, a big improvement) and I DEFINITELY liked the alphas - those guys were horrifying, stick with that.
