Sorry if we got carried away with all the other games' talk, it's just that we needed a way to keep ourselves distracted and thus ease the pain of waiting for Inquisiton.

While I wait for Antaine to reach Ornstein and Smough, anyone have any ideas what I could do? I'm currently clearing out the titanite demons in sen's fortress. Is there some specific item that I might have missed that should be picked up? Also, should I still be using the grass crest shield or should I use something else?

 

Today I also pre-ordered DS2, uncertain if I'll get my hands on the black armor edition or not (I want the metal case and soundtrack, I WILL NOT use the bonus weapons and shields that comes along with it).

Anyway, what are you doing or planning to do to pass the time?

 

Personally, I'm trying to play some of the games I bought and shorten my backlog (damn you Steam), with little success. This year so far I've played Cook, Serve, Delicious (fun and addictive), The Banner Saga (really a great game, actually more difficult than I thought), The Last of Us (good game, too much combat imo), Tropico IV (sometimes I crave a good city builder) and South Park the Stick of Truth.

 

And I started The Witcher 1 again. For the 4th time. And I'll probably play The Witcher 2 again after that. At least another 2 times.

Have you been to the Undead Asylum a second time? There's good loot, another boss and a Peculiar Doll.

The Peculiar Doll is the key to reach a secret area from Anor Londo. It's actually my favourite part of the game.

 

And it has an amazing farming spot for souls if you want.

I'm almost at the twin archers part, the wait is almost over...if I manage to get past them, that is.
Edit: I did it! And on the first try, I never managed to do that! Yay!

What is your build right now?
The grass crest shield might not be the best shield to block (although when fully improved has decent enough stability for a 3 pound shield), but it's amazing for the stamina regeneration: if you're going two handed like me, you wouldn't use the shield to block anyway and keeping it on your back allows you to keep striking the enemy sooner. If you're going one handed + shield, then perhaps a shield with a better stability might be more to your liking: the black knight shield is good for both stability, physical damage and fire resistance, and you should have picked up the Eagle Shield, the lightest in the greatshield category, with good stability but with only 95% physical damage reduction; you should also have picked up the black iron shield, another good greatshield. Try them all and see what you like best.

Also, if you don't mind going back to Blight Town, there's an hidden area that holds good loot, mostly titanites and chunks of different colours, and most importantly a ring that makes the stamina regenerate faster and stacks with the grass crest shield: beware though, the place is filled with basilisk (those creatures that resemble frogs) that can curse you, so equip as much curse resist protection as possible, bring some purging stones and avoid their breath attack like the plague, it's that cloud they spit that inflicts the curse.

I'm using my black knight greatsword with one hand and a shield in the other. I still want to use a light or preferrably medium shield; with heavy shields I can't parry (and riposte! I've been practicing )

 

I'll go back to the asylum first then. I'll check out the blighttown area afterwards. If you're ready to go ornstein and smough tonight Antaine we could try it. I won't be able to play for a least a couple more hours, probably not before 21.00 (2 1/2 hours from now).

Good, it's always useful to know how to parry/riposte.
If you use the shield for blocking, then you could farm the balder knights in the church for their Balder shield, which has good stability; the black knight shield is good against fire damage; the Crest shield is good against magic damage (you will find it as a drop from a certain someone when you return to the asylum).
My suggestion would be to simply upgrade this three shields and change from one to the other when you need specific protections.

I'm currently grinding some souls to fully upgrade my armour, but we can try to take down S&O towards 22.00, if you'd like.

Sounds like a plan. I'm currently wrapping up the painted world, just engaged and died by Priscilla. At least I got her dagger first!

Look at the footprints in the snow.

We should arrange a place where to "meet" so to speak. Where do you want me to put my sign? Near a bonfire? Just outside the fog wall?
Also, I'm a two handed warrior, so I won't block, I'll dodge attacks and try to dish out as much damage as possible. I could revert to a somewhat upgraded claymore to block with a shield, if you want me to tank, though.
With that in mind, do you want me to distract Ornstein while you kill Smough or viceversa, I beat up Smough while you keep good ol' Ornie busy?

Since you can summon up to two phantoms, you could summon another player in addition to me or Solaire by the staircase. Solaire would provide a good decoy for the first part.

Lastly, I don't know if you are aware of this, but phantom players cannot use their estus to heal, though they can be healed by the host if he/she uses his/her estus. I also have some humanity to heal up, although not much since I didn't do my usual farming run of rats.

We'll meet just outside the fog door, my name in the game is get fired up aswell, so no worries there. I'll summon Solaire aswell, he's been tanking ornstein every time I've tried them with him, so he can do that while we kill smough.

I’m not playing anything these days, but I just finished a new full DAO + DA2 playthrough last month. I’m so very desperate for new info and I’m really happy we can read The Masked Empire in a few weeks!

 

Fall 2014 is still so far away… But if you think about it, we don’t need support for an entire year anymore, we are down to... 8 months or so. It's an improvement (glass half full)
