I agree with Naesaki. The Witcher 2's combat is flashy, flighty and kinda annoying. The first one is clunky and interesting but didn't work that well.

Also it tries to do mature sex scenes but I scoff whenever I see a naked women and Geralt with his pants on. I think we've found out the reason why The Witchers never have children ... they don't take off their pants.

But it's story is good as Naesaki says and the branching storyline in 2 was amazingly well done and brought together finely but chapter 3 felt a bit rushed with just a few character swaps.

THIS IS MY OPINION DO NOT RAGE ABOUT IT!

I'm just insuring myself for later.

Yeah, the combat is certainly the weakest thing in The Witcher 1&2. I actually liked The Witcher 1 combat and gameplay, while The Witcher 2 was a bit of a disappointment for me in that regard.

The story and characters are great in both games, though.

It's the same thing as Alpha Protocol: if you can accept that the combat is not perfect or polished, you'll discover a great game.

Alpha Protocol and The Witcher 1&2 do choices&consequences like no other game in recent years. I really hope to see a similar level of choices&consequences in Inquisition as well.

It's true. Chapter 3 was rushed at launch, but the enhanched edition improved things a lot in my opinion. It's still pretty short compared to the others chapters, though.

Speaking of CDPRed, I'm really excited for Cyberpunk 2077.

I've been going through a lot of BioWare games recently, and am now playing KOTOR 2 (as some of you might know), a game that could very well be made by BioWare - and yes, I know the groundwork really is BW's. I am currently right after the first post-Telos planet, Nar Shaddaa for me, and loving every minute of it.

And just an hour ago I decided to look up some Jade Empire reviews/gameplay and man.... I think I've found something else to play right after KOTOR 2. And after that? Finally on to ME1 and ME3, since I only played 2. In fact, let's do a trilogy playthrough! On top of that, the DA novels might keep me busy all through the summer.

This is going to be one hell of a year. And I'm not even talking about new releases. Go figure.

Btw Bird I assume you know that towards the end of KOTOE 2 there is a lot of "missing/cut content" from KOTOR 2 due to its rushed schedule back then, but there's a big fan patch that brings back in all the content that was cut at the last minute to make it a more complete game. Can't remember where to find it all though

I know, but I want to play it all the way through in just vanilla, and then give that big fan patch a go to see if it's better that way. I always prefer to play vanilla the first time through. But thanks anyway, appreciate it!  ;)

It may be the vanilla experience but you'll see towards the end that things are really rushed :( its strange though because back then Obsidian offered to patch in all the missing content but Lucasarts said no.

Hmm.... that IS weird. Maybe to protect public image? Well, I guess I'll see for myself when I get to the end. It's funny, this game doesn't even feel like a non-BioWare game, I wouldn't even believe they hadn't made it when it didn't say 'Obsidian' on the box. Sure, the groundwork is there from KOTOR 1 but man, does this game have BW-quality in terms of.... well, everything really. Writing, characters, story, etc. Too bad I'll be spoiled about the first game's ending when I get to that one, though.

Also:

Now that EA has the Star Wars license, and BioWare works for EA, and there is an amazing Frostbite engine, and BioWare has made a Star Wars RPG in the past, and also Mass Effect, and.... you get where I'm going. I want it to happen. Doesn't even have to be a KOTOR 3, just make me a BW Star Wars game and I'm pleased for this generation of consoles.

EDIT: Wow, I just did some Google-magic and found that KOTOR 2 is Obsidian's first game. Well, Wikipedia say so. That is amazing. They also made New Vegas, which I really liked, and the new South Park and... oh, Alpha Protocol, have to give that one a go sometime.

I'm sorry, too much rambling right here.

its a shame we never got a true kotor 3, i mean swtor actually has some decent character stories, really loving the Jedi Consular storyline right now, but I would love to see a new star wars rpg in the frostbite engine, that would be <3

There were some rumors recently about BioWare working on a Star Wars RPG, and some new rumors only a couple of weeks back suggesting that BioWare was making a whole new sci-fi RPG that is NOT Mass Effect.

Man I am getting excited you don't even know. Maker help me, this is going to be a tough but great year in gaming for me.

There's already Visceral working on a new Start Wars action game, while Bioware is working on TOR. I'm not sure if EA would put another team on a Star Wars game.

The new IP the ex-ME team is working on might be sci-fi again, though.

@Milena: Yeah, I guess you are right.

In related news, I've been playing a lot through KOTOR II today, and oh my lord has this game gotten even better than when I started! At first I was playing a light-side character, but after two planets worth of jedi-hunting (post-Telos), I decided to fully dedicate myself to getting Ser Wesley to the dark side. He's currently at halfway across the dark side... well, side of the "morality" bar (let's just call it that). Right now I'm doing

Spoiler
and man, is Dark Side overpowered.... I'm throwing Force Storms everywhere and my characters must feel like a god right now.

Kreia is indeed an amazing character. Atris was interesting as well; it's unfortunate that Obsidian had to cut so many things out of the game.

And yes, the Dark Side powers are way overpowered in both KotOR1&2, but they're the reason I made 2-3 playthroughs in each game with a Dark-aligned character :P

Been a while since I posted here now talking about my dark souls progress, I haven't been really active as of late.

Anyways, after I kicked Ornstein's butt I got the lordvessel from Gwyndolin, and directly headed over to the duke's archives. The first armored boar kicked my butt (as revenge for Ornstein no doubt!), which killed my mood, so instead I  headed back to firelink shrine and headed down into the catacombs. I pretty much rushed through that entire area, killed the titanite demon and the black knight, got some other gear etc. and killed the boss, from which I aquired the mask of the child, aswell as the rite of kindling. I tried to venture deeper, but I fell down the ledge two or three times (it was pitch black down there, I couldn't see anything!) so I ran back outside to firelink and decided to retry the duke's archives.

This time I fared better. I killed the boars yadda yadda and got to the top of the tower with the fog door, and inside was Seath. I was completely unprepared for that since I'd imagined that this would only be a miniboss or even just one of those fog doors with no boss, so seeing this giant dragon scared the crap out of me. I was pretty pissed when i died, thinking "how the hell am I supposed to kill that thing!?), but once I woke up inside a cell I assumed that death by Seath was inevitable (am I right in assuming that, or is it actually possible to win there?). After that I met big hat Logan in his cell, cleared out everything leading up to the next bonfire in the library, found an ember and a key, which opened up Logans cell door and got a fire keeper soul for my troubles, entered the crystal cave and slayed Seath for good this time. I died on my first try because I ran straight past those oyster monsters, thinking that they'd despawn once the boss was engaged but noooo, they joined in on the fun aswell, and I died pretty fast. My second time around I made sure to kill all the clams, but NOW there was a bloody fog door before Seath, which kinda pissed me off. Once I fought him one-on-one he was pretty easy.

After that I really wanted to begin the Artorias of the abyss DLC storyline, so I had to look up on how to start the DLC (cheating I know, but it didn't spoil much). I ran to darkroot basin, killed the hydra, ran inside the cave behind the lake and found it empty. I then ran back to the duke's archives, got the broken pendant, ran back to the cave and killed the crystal giant and saved Dusk of Oolacile. I logged out and then back in to find that the shadow had appeared, and was transported to Oolacile. Since then I've killed the sanctuary guardian, spoken with the mushroom lady by the bonfire (save the princess, most original plot ever! :P ), and engaged with Artorias surely more than ten times by now, with no success. The strange thing is that I don't really mind wiping on this guy, I find that he is the most fun boss in the game so far, and I'm actually enjoying seeing how I for every fight get a little bit closer to killing him.

It won't be long before I vanquish this foe aswell, and march onwards to new adventures! (while looking pimp as **** in my kick-ass Ornstein armor!)

For the Tomb of Giants you need a light source or you'll never going to get through it the first time. The only light sources in the game are:

1) a skull lantern (a rare drop from the necromancers in the catacombs or a guaranteed find in the ToG, in a pit) but you'll have to forego the use of a shield since it has to be kept in the offhand.

2) The Cast Light spell, you need 14 intelligence to use it. If you still plan on using the Greatsword of Artorias, you'll need at least 20 int to equip it, so might as well start putting some points in it and use this sorcery.

3) The Sunlight Maggot, an helmet received from slaying a particular Chaos Bug, but to obtain it you have to rank up in the Chaos Servant covenant by giving the Fair Lady 30 humanities, which will allow you to unlock a shortcut to Lost Izalith; the catch is that you first have to find said shortcut, then you have to open it and then you have to find and slay the Chaos Bug that drops the helmet. Incidentally, this is also the only way to save Solaire's life, so keep that in mind.

As for Seath, yes, the first encounter cannot be won, it's a scripted event, which is why it's adivisable to equip a ring of sacrifice or a rare ring of sacrifice in order to not lose the souls one has in the counter. Also, for a future playthrough: cut off Seath's tail, you'll get the Moonlight Greatsword (a greatsword that scales with intelligence, does pure magical damage and shoots lasers when a heavy attack is performed). ;)

Yes, Artorias is a fun boss. All the bosses in the dlc are, really. :)
Have fun! And yes, Ornstein armour is badass.

I've never been able to beat Artorias. Or fight him. I did my first playthrough without the DLC, I then bought it and then found out the disk I had was from the wrong region, so I had to return it only to find out I had to trade it in at the same store to purchase another one. Install it and then start again.

Morale of the story. Don't buy pre-owned games.

Region coding can be annoying, I know. My ps3 was bought in the US even though I live in Europe, so the only games I could play were those bought in America, and I couldn't buy DLC from the online store, and even the DLC I got for free with my games (Stone prisoner with DA:O comes to mind) didn't work either.

Artorias is just the tip of that particular iceberg, unfortunately.
