Didn't you like the first two ME games or the city elf origin?

The city elf origin frustrated me to no end, with its impossibility to say something along the lines of "I'm not into dudes/girls", but at least the warden doesn't get married, so he/she is not forced in a straight relationship.
As for the first two ME games, I admit I gave them a shot only because I discovered that Liara was an option for both genders, but I was very disappointed that there were no s/s options for a male Shepard; at least they acknowledged the problem and did something about it in the third game.

I just watched some gameplay footage of BBF.

Holy crap!  The terrible VA alone is a complete deal-breaker for me.  The female protagonist in particular has all the emotional range of a bag of wheat germ.

They even went out of their way in Mass Effect to point out that because there aren't different genders to the asari people, she's technically not a female. She just has the same characteristics as what we recognize to be female. So a female Shepard and her together isn't a gay romance. It's just the illusion of one.

Oh please. You have to be kidding, right? That excuse is wafer-thin.

I'm mean I'm not necessarily trying to gay-rage on ME or anything, but no, the Asari were female. Blatantly.

... but yes, sorry, back on track. Not trying to derail...

What do we think is the easiest way to catch up on what happened in the novels for those of us who want to get up to speed on the political goings-on, but don't have time to read them?

No more than the water horses from The Water Horse. And if by wafer you mean facts, then yes.

To state the obvious, the Asari look like women. Blue women with tentacle-y hair, granted, but beyond that, they have women's bodies and female voice actors. They have large breasts, rounded hips and pear-shaped bottoms. Yes, according to ME lore, the Asari are mono-gendered, but that's an entirely trivial point - in all important physical aspects, they look like women. In terms of the game, watching femshep getting it on with Liara is exactly the same as watching her get it on with another woman.

If Liara looked exactly like a blue James Vega (and really, there's no reason why she shouldn't, given that an Asari is no more a 'woman' than they are a 'man') how would you feel about watching MaleShep getting it on with 'him' then?

Plenty of guys look like women too; and haven't you ever seen dubbed anime? Plenty of male characters have female voice actresses. That doesn't mean they changed their genders, and what they actually are considered in game is not trivial, that's actually the best source for the facts. Also, considering FemShep doesn't get it on with a woman until Jack in me2 and those two sex scenes don't at all look the same, I'm going to say you're wrong on that one. But I think an asari that looked like James would be pretty hot. Especially if they were with a male Shepard, but that's besides the point.

The two games that I thought would tide me over (Bound by Flame and Murdered - Soul Suspect) are turning out to be pretty poor games. What to do??? I have been reduced to playing Fable. HELP ME!

Todd23 - To be honest, I think you're being deliberately obtuse. If you honestly, genuinely think the Asari look gender-neutral, then I really don't know what to say, since they so obviously aren't. But let me check again...

the_afterlife.jpg

You know, I see your point now. I take it all back. Absolutely nothing feminine about her at all, nosiree. Totally gender-neutral! FemShep making out with her would be like FemShep making out with an inanimate object. No lesbian overtones there at all. What was I thinking?

Personally I'm taking on The Witchers and Dark Souls games (apparently very challenging and immersive) to keep me ticking over. Have you tried them?

It's funny while I have been looking forward to this game I didn't really start getting hyped about this game until recently.  I guess all the recent E3 stuff started getting my juices flowing.  If I can finally get my needy ex girlfriend out of my hair I should be able to afford the xbox one and get this for the xbox one.

Yeah, BBF is really bad. It's like they combined the worst parts of Elder Scrolls, The Witcher and Dragon Age into one mess. Haven't tried Soul Suspect.

Right now it's a pretty lame time for games, which is common. Spring-Summer is all manner of bad. About the only game that comes to mind worth playing recently is Transistor, but it's a bit on the short side, unless you fall in love with it enough to play it a dozen times.

The wiki seems to have a plot synopsis for both.
