I don't particularly enjoy being called latino. It encourages stereotypes when each Spanish speaking country has their own culture and peculiarities. Would any canadians and americans enjoy being called north american or whatever term you prefer instead of the proper term?

That's the thing about the term, you don't insinuate a certain race or culture when you use that term, because it's supposed to cover so many varied and unique cultures that would be impossible to individually name and memorize (as a layman that doesn't study that part of the world in depth).

The problem is that it isn't true in practice. I've seen plenty people refer it as a 'race' or culture. Heck, even in some surveys and profiles you get those bull**** terms. After all, I could use 'north american' if I wanted to and claim the same reasoning you are using.

It encourages ignorance and stereotypes. Same with calling anyone of asian descent simply asian instead of their proper heritage when the differences are vast.

When you try to sound intelligent, you should at least labor to get your spelling right, or the ruse will quickly fall apart.
