The problem is that it isn't true in practice. I've seen plenty people refer it as a 'race' or culture. Heck, even in some surveys and profiles you get those bull**** terms. After all, I could use 'north american' if I wanted to and claim the same reasoning you are using.
It encourages ignorance and stereotypes. Same with calling anyone of asian descent simply asian instead of their proper heritage when the differences are vast.
It's on job applications because you have to be practical. I mean if you had to put every last nationality on there there'd be 8 pages on race and 1 for the actual application.

You, the guy accosting me with the FU picture? A lecture on ad hominem. LOL. It's hominem, btw. When you try to sound intelligent, you should at least labor to get your spelling right, or the ruse will quickly fall apart. And telling someone sarcastically that they are going to win an award for something is also an appeal to to the person, an ad hominem.
You already got destroyed in this thread. Everything out of your mouth now is nothing but sour grapes.
I never purported myself as the "master debater" of the thread that so thoroughly kicked the s*** out of everybody in debate. I referred to ad hominem because you apparently actually care about debating and whatever goes with that.
You can keep telling yourself that you're the ****ing bawss and that you hardcore stomped me and that you're the winner, but I'll reiterate.
I didn't give you an FU pic, I gave you a FLYING F***.
I think you've done quite enough damage to the thread, and I definitely contributed by contining to feed your ****ing bulls***.
We're done here.

It's perfectly cool. It's nice to see some semblance of the original intent instead of following vhatever's personal crusade for the reformation of demographic semantics.

you never know. He's pretty crazy like that. When he was like 10 years old someone tried stealing his bike when he was in the store and when he caught him he started beating the kids head in with his own bicycle frame.
Was like a 700 dollar bianci bike, too.

You say unjustifiable a lot, rather than actually refute. Anyway, calling an action puerile isn't the same as calling its agent puerile. The agent is merely capable of acting in a puerile manner.DeathCultArm wrote...

By the way, I visited this cozy pizzeria downtown owned by some palestinians and an iraqi guy. Very nice guys, and they didn't get offended when I asked them where they originated from either. Actually, I thought they were italian at first! Yeah, I'm so bad at telling races apart. The only reason I asked was because I noticed some sort of accent.
There was this one time though, I just asked a guy if he had filled gas (I was working at a gas station at the time, and plenty of people just tend to forget that they filled gas two minutes ago and so forget to pay. It's not on purpose or anything, they just forget.) and he got mad at me. See, he was the only person there and the display showed that someone hadn't paid for their gas, so I just asked in a friendly manner if he had filled, but got very upset and started yelling at me, asking me if I asked because of the fact that he wasn't white. My first thought was "ermm.... you're not?!"
Seriously, I thought this guy was white, I didn't even notice. Turns out he was sort of "latino" (sorry if you feel that that term is very offensive, it's just that he looked a tiny bit "spanish" when I took a closer look), and so he thought that I asked him because I thought that all people of his ethnicity were poor thieves that couldn't afford to pay for their gas or something.
What happened next was funny, he pulled out this ID card in my face and told me how much he earned as some sort of high-ranking doctor of some hospital, and how I was a racist, all the while I was trying to explain why I asked and apologizing to him. He then walked over to his girlfriend and started whispering stuff to her while pointing at me. I couldn't help but chuckle, it was just a way too extreme reaction. Geez..

Friend, try not to brush it off like that. Perspective is a very important factor in all this.Marlina wrote...
So anyway, I'm glad I live in a place where race isn't such a touchy subject. >_> I don't mind people calling me "white" or "scandinavian" or "norwegian" or "northern-european" or anything like that.

It's not unusual for white people to be less concerned about how they're identified concerning race and ethnicity. Invisible knapsack phenomenon. Here's a somewhat related video:
Of course, there's also culture, and your's is obviously different. That said, I've heard vastly different accounts of race politics in Northern Europe. Some, for instance, say it isn't a huge deal for the simple fact that it isn't really that "diverse".
Now, also on the matter of perspective, I wouldn't assume you were being racist. The fact that you were confused illustrates just how irrational the concept of race is to begin with. That said, i can't speak for that individual. Different perspectives. Different perceptions. Just keep that in mind. Also, never brush things things off. Can't stress that enough. Learn. Always learn.

Don't overthink it.
Hiphop / rap / RnB and their terms are so retarded it's pretty damn hard not to overthink it.
You have a Last.FM, almighty music overlord?
'One of them'? You mean, one of those people with a good music taste? Then yes. I like a lot of music styles (from Irish folk to Sex Pistols to Muse to Rammstein to Vive la Fête... Etc), usually what one would call alternative. All the **** mtv shows (rap, hiphop, pop, RnB) is pure bollocks. And you have to admit it's usually the less intelligent people listening to that kind of music.
I also loathe the fact those styles are based so much on what you wear and how you act. Pathetic untalented rappers calling themselves 'gangstas'. Pfft. I'd like to see them in a brawl with the Ramones and the Sex Pistols. Luckily for them those people are old/dead now.
Also, officially rap isn't music. It's just a constantly repeating tune, with the text almost being spoken instead of sung. Not to mention its always about either love, 'gangstas', 'the hood', or how awesome they and their friends are.

Anyway, judging a genre based on its commercial industry, especially at the MTV level, is pretty irrational. Most of the music I enjoy isn't ever likely to appear on any channel, save maybe Current TV.
I grew up on Hip Hop, and, as you can see from my Last.FM profile, I also know a lot of Punk, classical, Folk, Metal, Alternative, Pop, Electronica, etc. I also play guitar, but I don't see how you can objectively conclude that composing lyrics doesn't ever require any talent.
It saddens me to see a 'punk' speak as you have. You remind me of the anti-punks atmosphere of the 70's (and today). Also, pretty much every punk I know (I know A LOT), listen to Rap and Hip Hop. Expand your horizons.
Listen to this and explain to me how ridiculous the 'gangsta' facade is:

I can't stand people who claim to somehow have a superior standing when it comes to tastes and opinions. Is it really hard to like something just because you like it? Seriously, I don't understand why they go out of their way to feel better about their own tastes by claiming how superior theirs are and how stupid is everyone else for liking something they don't.
Personally, I don't like rap, specially not the ones with lyrics about sex and violence. Wasn't hip hop all about cultural messages? I like that part of it and it saddens me that after its commercialization it has lost it's soul completely.

I am not a punk. I have much too easy a life to call myself that. And do you even know what punks are? Not those Green Day pop idiots. The Ramones and Sex Pistols for example, were punk. Way to shoot yourself in the foot.
And while I loathe their communities, I do not call rap/hiphop/RnB/pop bad because of that, I call it bad because it actually seriously is bad. People making that kind of music become famous due to looks, not their music. people buying their music are usually the blond, mindless, sheep-like cheerleader types.
Here's to hoping that in 10 years most people will like Rock'n'Roll again, radio might actually be decent to listen to again then. Not to mention the average intelligence level will probably go up.
