For example I played a female dwarf noble playthrough in origins and if you are female you can have a romance of sorts with Gorim your first.
I couldn't see that character with any of the romancable companions so I didn't romance any of them. I wish Bioware had just left that story rather than having him married to someone else coz I coulda role played that she was only ever interested in him.
The Samara romance in Mass Effect (although she is a companion) Is oddly satisfying as well even though that never really goes anywhere.

I loved the Samara romance! They added on to it nicely with Citadel.

Like how you could marry Anora? I'd be into that.
Yeah, only with some actual romance involved. The Anora option was cool cause it let you play the nobility politics game, but a non-companion romance with actual romance would be a great option.

Anora's is subtle! She becomes nicer, and actually shows some concern at the beginning and end of Awakening for a protagonist she's married to.

So do I. What is it that impedes NPCs from doing so? Is it the lack of floating weapons in their back perhaps?

Yes, your Warden might eventually enter a loving relationship, but the whole reason for the engagement is political, not emotional. It's less of a romance and more of political intrigue which later becomes love.
If there's going to be an out of companion romance, I don't want to get an epilogue that says "And then they were in love". I want to see that progression happen in game.

My heart did a little sommersault when she was actually worried for my Warden. (His heart squealed like a schoolgirl, I'll have you know.)
I didn't mind that the romance isn't really a romance at all and is based on headcanon more than anything else. I loved it.
I'd like more of that, yes please.

I felt my warden should have been able to romance Bella in DAO . .
Smaller romances where the hero romances an npc and the npc stays home at the castle, possibly even has children with the hero, while it may seem to complicate things, I think it could cut back on the dynamics of romances as well as questions about the explicitness .

And as for the NPCs romances - ME3 allowed this because you spent a great deal of time on the Normandy, thus your love interest was in one place. This will not be the case for DA:I, where you'll be capturing keeps, moving all around Thedas (having in mind that devs aren't that eager to implement fast travel feature as they now have mounts). Keeping the romances "exclusive" to the companions seems like the right choice.
